Charm struck on the third time for these would-be clients of remarkable interior designer, Carrie Brigham of Carrie Brigham Design. “They had already been referred to me by the builder, and the architect, and in that same day, the client got another referral — there was no question we had to work together,” delights Brigham. This home is setting trends with its high-contrast, transitional, Old Florida style, inside and out. Brigham layers custom features over the neutral palette to elevate the look to a “casually elegant sensibility,” she relishes. u Great Room: The black and white rug speaks to the graphic artwork, while the rich wood of the tables anchor the space and foil against the Legno Bastone Wide Plank Flooring’s European Elegance white oak flooring from Naples Flooring Company. Slim-profile accent pieces in glossy white and dusty gold adorn the sleek built-ins in Gauntlet Grey by Sherwin-Williams. Carrie Brigham Design provides fresh florals from a florist in downtown Naples that rival the tropical view out this focal glass wall. Vignette: “We knew we wanted a bold piece that would make a statement and liked the idea of working with a local artist,” remembers Brigham. She fell in love with the graphic atypical stylings of this custom art by Daniel Geschardt. This textural, black and white piece ignites the high-contrast experience in this home. An alabaster lamp and root slice sculpture engage both fluid and geometric forms, while the wood-capped arm chairs offer a casual touch.

“The creativity comes out in this home — a testament to the entire team,” shares Matt Knauf of Knauf-Koenig Group. “We build beautiful houses, but it is this home’s intricate details that make it one of a kind.” Brigham’s exquisite design details set the stunning kitchen apart. “It’s all about the island!” exclaims Brigham, sharing her desire to create something never seen before. “I literally sketched this end-cap frame on a scrap of paper and Ruffino Cabinetry brought it to life.” Brigham gives the kitchen island a new look with black wooden frames that support the spectacular taupe countertop, and she stretches thin, horizontal, black metal rods across. Behind it sits a bright white tongue-and-groove panel — showing off high-contrast in one powerful and dramatic statement. u Dining Room: The widespread window flows seamlessly with Knauf-Koenig Group’s banquet design. Brigham adorns the bench with durable, ready-made pillows that show off geometric and fluid patterns in black, white, and taupe. Armless chairs in a crisp gray encircle the beautiful, smooth-top table with a rattan edge and brass stretcher that has a West Indies flavor, which is echoed in the airy tendrils of the chandelier sourced through Carrie Brigham Design. Kitchen: Brigham tackles the scale of this massive island with an equally substantial galley sink. The island’s Perla Venata countertop complements the perimeter — a taupe stone-top that runs into the butler’s pantry. A stunning zinc hood, which will patina graciously over time, nestles between the bright white Ruffino Cabinetry. “In the spirit of high-contrast with our white kitchen, it was only natural to go with these oversized, black pendants,” shares Brigham.

Brigham artfully harmonizes serenity and high contrast with a gentler color palette in this master bedroom. The wool and silk rug inspires the entire atmosphere of the room. “With no specific pattern, but with all our shades of taupe and gray, this rug creates a restful background,” she elaborates. Soft finishes — such as the velvet appliqué bedding — elevate the soothing retreat.

“Our goal for this home was to stay true to a neutral palette,” Brigham reveals. Using shades of beige, gunmetal, white, and taupe with varying rich and honied wood tones, Brigham interjects soft camel tones as an accent. “The focal point of this great room is the view out to the pool. We want the inside to flow outside,” says John Cooney of Stofft Cooney Architects. It is this unique on-the-water, ranch-style design amid massive two-story houses that connects this home to the soul of Old Florida architecture. Although, at nearly 4,700 square feet and full of modern amenities, it holds its own against its taller neighbors. u

Master Bathroom: “By flanking large windows on either side of the tub with transoms above, we are able to get wonderful privacy and natural light,” shares Cooney. Plantation shutters from Shutter Concepts ensure privacy, and the freeform ash and white artwork from Sweet Art Gallery hang in prominence above Ferguson Bath, Kitchen & Lighting Gallery’s asymmetrical Stargazer tub. A light fixture becomes an art piece inspired by Brigham, who hangs this vision over the tub. With the ability to restyle the tubular glass forms, it will never lose its stunning, visual impact.

Guest bathroom: “As a designer, I take cues from my favorite furniture pieces and re-imagine them into custom cabinetry.” Brigham explains that the Ruffino Cabinetry’s styling is a bright white finish with routed vertical lines and simple black edge pulls. Adorning the custom cabinets is a taupe countertop to soften the high-contrast elements. A simple black framed mirror hangs centered between the black, glass, and chrome sconces from Wilson Lighting.

Powder Room: The transitional, oversized basket-weave pattern tile in white, gray, and taupe spans the powder room. This furniture-style vanity from Ruffino Cabinetry pairs best with the lighter Dolomite marble countertop and grounds the remarkable petrified wood framed mirror that exhibits all the tones seen in the bathroom, from taupe and gray to polished chrome. Glass globe sconces from Carrie Brigham Design flank this exceptional mirror. Guest Bedroom, Below: A convergence of well-thought-out design and style comes together in this guest room. High-contrast graphic patterns set against an Old World caned bed blends tropical inspiration with edgy sophistication for a unique and clever feel. Organic shapes on the creamy white lamp juxtapose the rectilinear, warm taupe shade that sits atop a crisp white nightstand with transitional black pulls — all chosen by Carrie Brigham Design. Laundry Room: Brigham goes bold yet stays true to the home’s neutral color palette. “We didn’t want to do the typical white laundry room,” Brigham asserts, bringing in a pop of high contrast with the black, white, and copper artwork from Sweet Art Gallery. A pure white quartz countertop throughout the space offers subtle contrast against the cabinets by Ruffino Cabinetry that have a brilliant flat moulding profile, making even this functional space brim with designer touches.

“These special clients were very in touch with the universe that day they received three referrals,” Brigham reminisces. Family Room: Prodigious black and white hues with surges of camel and gold overlook this restful family space. A duo of stunning gallery-wrapped pieces from Sweet Art Gallery merge the design concept and colorway. To soften the rectilinear lines of the architecture, Brigham incorporates “sinuous lines” in the furniture and grounds the space with a plush rug. Atop this transitional credenza with an interlocking moulding design sits artful accessories and more fresh greenery that blurs the line between indoors and out. Rear Exterior: “With a spectacular waterfront view providing an idyllic backdrop, it was about taking the confluence of the owner’s preferences, the home’s architectural presence, and the relationship to its surroundings to create an attractive and harmonious setting for this home,” shares landscape designer Kevin Schafer. The natural shellstone flooring creates a brilliant backdrop to the landscape, pool, and home. The pool’s neutral, iridescent, gray glass tiles carry the interior colorway to the outdoors.

Soothing colors flow through the home, spilling into another custom-Brigham feature in the master bedroom. “I knew the space needed to have some traditional elements but incorporated in a modern way,” Brigham describes in reference to the trim she designed that creates subtle intrigue with a shadow effect on the headboard wall. Bold, high-contrast statements from local artwork, striking bathroom light fixtures, graphic pillow prints, and eyecatching bathroom vanities push a transitional edginess in this design. “She’s [Brigham] very respectful of the architecture. The interior details are exactly in line with our architectural theme,” explains Cooney, after describing the white stucco exterior and the punchy black-frame windows. “These special clients were very in touch with the universe that day they received three referrals,” Brigham reminisces. With three brilliant stars in alignment, Carrie Brigham Design, Stofft Cooney Architects, and Knauf-Koenig Group set the trend of what sensational architecture, building, and design look like in the Moorings. n

Front Exterior: Carrie Brigham Design, Stofft Cooney Architects, and Knauf-Koenig Group set a high-contrast, tropical-transitional trend in the Moorings. Foreshadowing the palette of the interior, the home’s façade features black 400 series windows from Andersen Window & Doors — provided by Florida Wood Window & Door — against the creamy white stucco. Hints of Old Florida style are found in the brass backplate lanterns found on the front exterior of the home, with the arrangement of sylvester and foxtail palms in front that “create a casual symmetry that frames and softens the home,” shares Schafer. Lanai: Rivaling the exterior and interior design, this lanai showcases a linear fireplace clad in a multi-tonal, textural stone. It is set between hidden motorized screens to create a grand focal point. This room is a conversation space with white sculpturally organic pieces that contrast modern, clean line furniture in neutral colors, with remarkable architectural details that ground this home in its tropical inspiration. Stofft Cooney Architects designs fixed shutters for a decorative element, while Castle Services of SWFL roll down screens offer function and protection from Florida’s elements for this covered outdoor space.
