THE ULTIMATE WORKOUT AT HOME

It is that time of the year again when we realise that the excesses of Christmas haven’t done any favours to our waistline. With summer not that far away, it is time to get fit and ensure our bodies are well-toned in time for when the beach months are suddenly upon us. The thought of joining a gym is daunting for many, so bringing the gym into the home can be a more appealing and realistic option. Having the convenience of a gym in your home generally means that you are more likely to use it. Since the dreaded lockdown, the concept of working out at home has become the new normal for many. With the recent rise in the cost of living, gym memberships can often be the first to suffer a cut, and the home gym equipment market has benefitted as a result. If the room you have dedicated to your home gym is limited, consider a foldable treadmill and cabinetry to store equipment away after use. Dumbbells, resistant bands, yoga mats and gym balls are all inexpensive easy ways to start putting a gym together. Larger equipment such as spin bikes, rowing machines and cross trainers turn things up a notch. If your equipment needs electrical points, the layout needs to be carefully considered. Workout equipment can seem very impersonal and even ugly, so make the space inspirational so that you are more inclined to use it. Work out in style with these ideas…

The Ciclotte bike was inspired by ergonomics and, following expansive research, it was built using high-tech materials such as carbon fibre, glass and steel. The frame is designed for five spinning positions, and its cutting-edge turn multiplier transmission and outer wheel rotation closely replicate the sense of cycling on the road. The electromagnetic system creates the resistance, which is remotely controlled via Bluetooth (www.ciclotte.com).

Technogym’s Kinesis Personal helps you improve strength, coordination, flexibility, balance and posture. The cleverly designed equipment serves as a functional training gym for the home, with hundreds of exercises that will test your capabilities (www.technogym.com).

VLUV seating balls come in an array of colours and a useful handle. They can be used to sit ergonomically when working and are also good for back training. There are a number of ways you can use the ball in the gym, making it particularly versatile (www.hockshop.de).

The Peloton Tread is equipped with a comfortable running belt which has easy-to-reach knobs controlling the speed and incline to help you avoid breaking your stride. You can pair your heart rate monitor or Apple Watch to track and sync metrics from every workout, and it comes with a large HD touchscreen with studio-quality speakers and access to thousands of Peloton classes (www.onepeloton.com).
