Dear Parishioners, Do you know the peace which surpasses all understanding (Philippians 4:7)? In his farewell discourse Jesus grants peace as his gift to his disciples. What kind of peace does he offer? The peace of Christ is more than the absence of trouble. It includes everything which makes for our highest good. The world's approach to peace is avoidance of trouble and a refusal to face unpleasant things. Jesus offers the peace which conquers our fears and anxieties. Nothing can take us from the peace and joy of Jesus Christ. No sorrow or grief, no danger, no suffering can make it less. How can we attain the peace which the Lord Jesus offers his followers? Through the gift and work of the Holy Spirit who dwells within us, the Lord Jesus shows us how to yield our passions of anger, fear, and pride to him so we can receive his gift of peace. The Holy Spirit helps us in our weakness and strengthens us with his gifts and supernatural virtues which enable us to live as wise and holy disciples of Christ. Caesarius of Arles (470-542 AD), an early church bishop in Gaul who was noted for his godly wisdom and preaching of Scripture, linked peace with the character of Christ and the Christlike virtues which help us to grow as disciples of Jesus Christ. Caesarius describes some of the key character traits (virtues) which form us into true people of peace:

"Peace, indeed, is serenity of mind, tranquility of soul, simplicity of heart, the bond of love, the fellowship of charity. It removes hatred, settles wars, restrains wrath, tramples on pride, loves the humble, pacifies the discordant and makes enemies agree. For it is pleasing to everyone. It does not seek what belongs to another or consider anything as its own. It teaches people to love because it does not know how to get angry, or to extol itself or become inflated with pride. It is meek and humble to everyone, possessing rest and tranquility within itself. When the peace of Christ is exercised by a Christian, it is brought to perfection by Christ. If anyone loves it, he will be an heir of God, while anyone who despises it rebels against Christ. 2

When our Lord Jesus Christ was returning to the Father, he left his peace to his followers as their inherited good, teaching them and saying, 'My peace I give to you, my peace I leave with you.' Anyone who has received this peace should keep it, and one who has destroyed it should look for it, while anyone who has lost it should seek it. For if anyone is not found with it, he will be disinherited by the Father and deprived of his inheritance.” (1) Yours In Christ,

The Nicene Creed Let us together affirm the faith of the Church. We believe in one God, the Father, the almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all that is, seen and unseen. We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ, the only Son of God, eternally begotten of the Father, God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, of one Being with the Father; through him all things were made. For us and for our salvation he came down from heaven, was incarnate of the Holy Spirit and the virgin Mary and became truly human. For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate; he suffered death and was buried. On the third day he rose again in accordance with the Scriptures; he ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead, and his kingdom will have no end. We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son, who with the Father and the Son is worshipped and glorified, who has spoken through the prophets. THE BREAKING OF THE BREAD AND THE COMMUNION {Celebrant} We break this bread to share in the body of Christ. We who are many are one body, for we all share in the one bread. The Choir sings the Agnus Dei Draw near with faith. Receive the body of our Lord Jesus Christ which he gave for you, and his blood which he shed for you. Eat and drink in remembrance that he died for you, and feed on him in your hearts by faith with thanksgiving. The Choir sings: â€œPanis Angelicusâ€?, Franck. Early attendance is strongly advised to gain a seat. Child Safe Officer for Holy Trinity Kew: The Vicar is pleased to announce that he has appointed Jack Bland as our first Child Safe Officer. Jack Bland was baptised at Holy Trinity Kew in 1999 and has attended church and been involved in the parish with his family. In 2015 his two brothers George and Harry became members of the parish choir and as a result he has attended more frequently! Jack first attended Hawthorn West Primary School from 2004 to 2010 and then Trinity Grammar School from 2011 to 2017. He is currently in his second year of a Bachelor of Psychological Science at Swinburne University of Technology. Jackâ€™s goal is to open his own psychology clinic are work with teenagers and young adults. Since 2010 Jack has played water polo for several teams, he began playing with Melbourne Collegians and remained there until 2016, in that time he represented Victoria in the 2013 under 14s Australian Championship. In 2015 Jack was part of Trinity Grammar Schoolâ€™s first water polo premiership team and has also coached year 7 and 8 water polo for the school. Jack is excited to continue his support for and work with children and teenagers in general and at Holy Trinity Kew and in particular in keeping them safe. 23

The Sunday School children will be cooking and serving lunch to parishioners on the 30th June. This will be a fundraiser for Sunday School resources. Children are invited to volunteer their time to cook with CK in the beautiful new kitchen in our Parish Centre on 22nd and 29th June from 2pm-4pm. The luncheon will be served at 12pm on 30th June in the Parish Centre. For catering purposes please advise on the order form at the back of the church what you would like to eat. The luncheon will be $15 per head. Kew High School, Chaplaincy Fundraising Dinner Friday 31st May, 7pm, KHS VCE Centre, 1393 Burke Rd, Kew East. 3 course meal for $48 per person, Beer, Wine and Soft drink will be available for purchase at the bar. The Dinner commences at 7:00pm and Kew High School Jazz Band will be playing. HTK tables are to be arranged so if you want to be sitting with HTK people, please add your name to the list at the back of the Church or contact Nip Thomson 0408 576 737 by 25th May. Many thanks to all those who have donated so generously to provide crockery, glasses and cutlery for the new Parish Centre Kitchen. Parish Council has appointed CK Choong as our new Kitchen Co-ordinator to lead the Catering Committee for the Parish Centre. CK is looking to outfit the Kitchen with some new basic items for cooking. An initial target of $5600 is required to do this. Please let the Vicar or CK know if you can help. Pakington Street Gate The Pakington Street carpark gate has been programmed and will remain open during the following hours: 6.00am â€“ 7.30pm Daily. A car being driven out of the carpark after hours will automatically open the gate but to avoid having your car locked in and you locked out, please ensure you are in the carpark prior to gate closing times. Notice of Election of Synod Representatives: Nominations for two Lay Representatives and one Alternate Lay Representative for the Synod of the Diocese of Melbourne are requested. Forms are at the back of the Church and need to be signed by five or more members on the current Parish Electoral Roll. Nominations will be received by the Vicar on 19 May 2019. If required, an election will be held on 26 May 2019 at 11.30am. 24

Does anyone have photos of the church green, old kitchen or outbuildings behind the vicarage before work on the Parish Centre commenced? Digital preferred but we can scan actual photographs. If so, can you please contact the Church office? Thanks. Parish Chaplain Pam Hughes: is currently on leave and won’t be available during May. A new piano is urgently required to replace the beyond repair choir rehearsal piano as we move back to the choir vestry. If you have a modern piano you’d consider donating or selling to the church or would like to donate towards a new piano, please speak to Stephen or Fr Robert. National Trust Appeal - HTK’s National Trust Appeal has been of huge benefit to the Parish, allowing vital maintenance on the Church that we would have otherwise struggled to fund. We have just finished work on the Vicarage roof, which was leaking, and the total cost of this was around $100,000 so any donations, small or large, towards this would be very gratefully accepted. Donations are tax deductible. Donation forms are in the rack at the back of the church or speak to Brenda in the church office or call Alan Wilson on 0414 470 460.

Anglican Code of Conduct for Child Safety Holy Trinity Child and Vulnerable Persons Policy. The Parish Council (upon the recommendations of HTK Child and Vulnerable Person sub-committee) has endorsed the Holy Trinity Child Safe and Vulnerable Persons Policy. Holy Trinity Kew is committed to protecting the safety of young people and vulnerable adults who participate in its programs, ministries and events. This includes the Sunday School and the Choir. On 22 March 2018, the Anglican Diocese of Melbourne approved a Code of Conduct for Child Safety. There are copies of the Holy Trinity Child Safe Policy and the Anglican Code of Conduct for Child Safety at the back of the church for your attention. Each parishioner is urged to read Child Safe Policy and the Code of Conduct. If you are an adult who has regular contact with children (anyone under the age of 18 years) you will be requested to make a Statement of Commitment for the Code of Conduct for Child Safety and obtain a Working with Children Check.
