Dear Parishioners, Cyril of Alexandria (376 – 444 AD) patriarch and church father comments on Jesus as our Good Shepherd: "He shows in what manner a shepherd may be proved good; and He teaches that he must be prepared to give up his life fighting in defence of his sheep, which was fulfilled in Christ. For man has departed from the love of God, and fallen into sin, and because of this was, I say, excluded from the divine abode of paradise, and when he was weakened by that disaster, he yielded to the devil tempting him to sin, and death following that sin he became the prey of fierce and ravenous wolves. But after Christ was announced as the True Shepherd of all men, He laid down his life for us (1 John 3:16), fighting for us against that pack of inhuman beasts. He bore the Cross for us, that by His own death he might destroy death. He was condemned for us, that He might deliver all of us from the sentence of punishment: the tyranny of sin being overthrown by our faith: fastening to the Cross the decree that stood against us, as it is written (Colossians 2:14). Therefore as the father of sin had as it were shut up the sheep in hell, giving them to death to feed on, as it is written in the psalms (Ps. Xlviii. 16), He died for us as truly Good, and truly our Shepherd, so that the dark shadow of death driven away He might join us to the company of the blessed in heaven; and in exchange for abodes that lie far in the depths of the pit, and in the hidden places of the sea, grant us mansions in His Father’s House above. Because of this he says to us in another place: Fear not, little flock, for it has pleased your Father to give you a kingdom (Luke 12:32).” (1) Holy Scripture tells of God as a shepherd of his people, Israel. The Lord is my shepherd, I shall not want (Psalm 23:1). We are his people, and the sheep of his pasture (Psalm 100:3). The Christ is also depicted as the shepherd of God's people: He will feed his flock like a shepherd, he will gather the lambs in his arms (Isaiah 40:11). Jesus says he is the Good Shepherd who will risk his life to seek out and save the stray sheep (Matthew 18:12, Luke 15:4). We are told in the pastoral letters that he is the Shepherd and Guardian of our souls (1 Peter 2:25). Yours in Christ,

this I looked, and there was a great multitude that no one could count, from every nation, from all tribes and peoples and languages, standing before the throne and before the Lamb, robed in white, with palm branches in their hands. 10 They cried out in a loud voice, saying, “Salvation belongs to our God who is seated on the throne, and to the Lamb!” 11 And all the angels stood around the throne and around the elders and the four living creatures, and they fell on their faces before the throne and worshiped God, 12 singing, “Amen! Blessing and glory and wisdom and thanksgiving and honour and power and might be to our God forever and ever! If you are the Messiah, tell us plainly.” 25 Jesus answered, “I have told you, and you do not believe. The works that I do in my Father’s name testify to me; 26 but you do not believe, because you do not belong to my sheep. 27 My sheep hear my voice. I know them, and they follow me. 28 I give them eternal life, and they will never perish. The Nicene Creed Let us together affirm the faith of the Church. We believe in one God, the Father, the almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all that is, seen and unseen. We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ, the only Son of God, eternally begotten of the Father, God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, of one Being with the Father; through him all things were made. For us and for our salvation he came down from heaven, was incarnate of the Holy Spirit and the virgin Mary and became truly human. For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate; he suffered death and was buried. On the third day he rose again in accordance with the Scriptures; he ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead, and his kingdom will have no end. We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son, who with the Father and the Son is worshipped and glorified, who has spoken through the prophets. We believe in one holy catholic and apostolic Church. We acknowledge one baptism for the forgiveness of sins. We look for the resurrection of the dead, and the life of the world to come. Amen.

As our Saviour Christ has taught us we are confident to pray, Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name, your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as in heaven. Give us today our daily bread. Forgive us our sins as we forgive those who sin against us. Save us from the time of trial and deliver us from evil. For the kingdom, the power, and the glory are yours now and for ever. Amen. National Trust Appeal - HTK’s National Trust Appeal has been of huge benefit to the Parish, allowing vital maintenance on the Church that we would have otherwise struggled to fund. We have just finished work on the Vicarage roof, which was leaking, and the total cost of this was around $100,000 so any donations, small or large, towards this would be very gratefully accepted. Voluntary Child Safe Officer urgently needed for Holy Trinity Kew The role of the Child Safe Officer is to promote child safety within their parish or congregation and to provide support, encouragement and help to manage risk and to maintain a child safe community. The Child safe officer undertakes all aspects of the Child safe policy of the Church, ensuring that the prescribed process for child safety is followed. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: • Understanding the Church's Commitment to Child Safety. • Liaise with the Vicar and Parish Council to foster a culture of child safety within the parish or congregation; • Be the point of contact in the parish or congregation for a person to raise concerns about child safety; • Facilitate the reporting to the Director of Professional Standards, any conduct or environment that does not meet the standards prescribed in the Code of Conduct for Child Safety; • Be a source of support and advice to parents, children, the Vicar, Parish Councils and parishioners in the area of child safety; • Undertake all aspects of the Child safe policy of the Church, ensuring that the prescribed process for child safety is followed; • Ensure that the Child Safety Policy is available publicly and that parents and parishioners in general are aware of the fact that referral about suspected abuse or neglect may be made and the role of the Parish in this. • Act as a source of support, advice and expertise to clergy, office holders, volunteers and parishioners on matters of child safety • Collaborate with the Parish and Diocese and Kooyoora to create a culture of compliance • Report any inappropriate behaviour through appropriate channels, including the Kooyoora Office of Professional Standards, the Department of Health and Human Services and Victoria Police, depending on the severity and urgency of the matter. CRITICAL RELATIONSHIPS: The Child Safe Officer will report directly to the Vicar and maintain relationships with the Anglican Diocese of Melbourne and Kooyoora, particularly with those where direct support is provided and in addition, frequent contact with Parishioners and volunteers. Anglican Code of Conduct for Child Safety Holy Trinity Child and Vulnerable Persons Policy. The Parish Council (upon the recommendations of HTK Child and Vulnerable Person sub-committee) has endorsed the Holy Trinity Child Safe and Vulnerable Persons Policy. Holy Trinity Kew is committed to protecting the safety of young people and vulnerable adults who participate in its programs, ministries and events. This includes the Sunday School and the Choir. On 22 March 2018, the Anglican Diocese of Melbourne approved a Code of Conduct for Child Safety. There are copies of the Holy Trinity Child Safe Policy and the Anglican Code of Conduct for Child Safety at the back of the church for your attention. Each parishioner is urged to read Child Safe Policy and the Code of Conduct. If you are an adult who has regular contact with children (anyone under the age of 18 years) you will be requested to make a Statement of Commitment for the Code of Conduct for Child Safety. This process has commenced and will continue in the coming weeks. The Parish Council and the Holy Trinity Child Safe Sub Committee thank you for your continued support and co-operation in promoting a Child Safe parish.
