Dear Parishioners,
Why did Jesus choose to reveal himself to the apostles at the Sea of Galilee - and right after they had spent a whole night of futile fishing? The Risen Lord was waiting on the shore for Peter and the other apostles. When their boat drew near the shore, Jesus questioned them and then gave a command to lower their nets into the sea. When their nets began to burst at the great haul of fish, John, the beloved disciple, recognized that it was the Lord who was speaking to them. Peter then immediately leapt from the boat and ran to the Lord. Do you run to the Lord Jesus when you meet setbacks and disappointments, and when your faith is being put to the test? The Lord Jesus is always ready to renew us in faith and to give each of us fresh hope in his promises for us. Why did Jesus perform this miraculous catch of fish after his third resurrection appearance to the apostles? By looking back to the first miracle of the great catch of fish, we can recognise the significance of Jesus repeating this miracle for his apostles. The first miracle took place at the beginning of Jesus' ministry in Galilee when the Lord called Peter to leave all and follow him. After Peter had fished all night and caught nothing, Jesus commanded him to lower his nets (see Luke 5:411). When his nets began to break under the weight of the great haul, Jesus then spoke to Peter and gave him a new calling and mission - from now on he would be "catching people" for the kingdom of God (Luke 5:10). Jesus repeats this miracle for Peter to remind him that he must continue his mission of "catching people" and "making disciples" for the kingdom of Christ. In modern Australia we take it for granted our religious freedom to practice Christianity and to engage in Christ’s mission. Shockingly there are many parts of the world where Christians are persecuted for their witness of faith with murderous intent towards men women and children by terrorist groups as we have seen recently in Sri Lanka and State sponsored or acquiesced to persecution in places such as North Korea, Afghanistan, Somalia, Pakistan, Sudan, Iraq, Yemen, Eritrea, Libya, Indonesia, Nigeria, Myanmar (Burma) and Iran. Alarmingly there 2
is also growing violence towards Christians in places like India. In North Korea alone, it is estimated 30,000- 50,000 Christians are in labour camps of the regime. (1) May our Gospel this Sunday remind us of Christ’s Call to make disciples, but also remind us that we are expected to be committed disciples ourselves. May we pray for and stand in awe of our Christian brothers and sisters in many parts of the world who literally risk their lives for their faith.
Yours In Christ,
Father Robert 1) Open Doors 2019 World Watch List of Persecuted Christians https://www.opendoors.org.au/persecutedchristians/blog/2019-world-watch-list-1-in-9-christians-persecuted-for-their-faith/

Hymn: All for Jesus! All for Jesus! NEH 272
1. All for Jesus! all for Jesus! this our song shall ever be; for we have no hope, nor Saviour, if we have not hope in thee. 2. All for Jesus! thou wilt give us strength to serve thee, hour by hour, none can move us from thy presence, while we trust thy love and power.
4. All for Jesus! thou hast loved us; all for Jesus! thou hast died; all for Jesus! thou art with us; all for Jesus, glorified! 5. All for Jesus! all for Jesus! this the Church's song shall be; till at last the flock is gathered one in love, and one in thee.
3. All for Jesus! at thine altar thou wilt give us sweet content; there, dear Saviour, we receive thee in thy holy sacrament.
Invocation:
Blessed be God: Father, Son and Holy Spirit. Blessed be God's kingdom, now and for ever.
Greeting:
The Lord be with you. And also with you.
Sentence: To the one seated on the throne and to the Lamb be blessing and honour and glory and might for ever and ever. 4
The Collect for Purity: As we gather as God's people let us pray together: God of love and peace, you know what we think and feel. Touch our hearts that our thoughts and actions may be good so that we may love you and honour you, through Jesus Christ our Lord, AMEN.
The Summary of the Commandments: ‘Hear, O Israel, the Lord our God, the Lord is one; you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind, and with all your strength.’ Jesus said: ‘This is the great and first commandment. And a second is like it: you shall love your neighbour as yourself.’ Lord, have mercy upon us, and write all these thy laws in our hearts, we beseech thee.
The Confession Let us confess our sins in penitence and faith, confident in God's forgiveness. God of mercy and grace, we have sometimes thought wrong things, and done wrong things and we have not always loved each other as we should. We are sorry. Forgive us and help us to love and obey you, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

The Absolution Almighty God, who has promised forgiveness to all who turn to him in faith: pardon you and set you free from all your sins, strengthen you in all goodness and keep you in eternal life, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

The Collect Almighty God, through your only Son you overcame death and opened to us the gate of everlasting life: grant that we who celebrate our Lord’s resurrection, may, through the renewing power of your Spirit, rise from the death of sin to the life of righteousness; through the same Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen.
THE MINISTRY OF THE WORD Readings from Good News Translation and JB Phillips New Testament First Reading: Acts 5:27-41 27 They
brought the apostles in, made them stand before the Council, and the High Priest questioned them. 28 “We gave you strict orders not to teach in the name of this man,” he said; “but see what you have done! You have spread your teaching all over Jerusalem, and you want to make us responsible for his death!” 29 Peter and the other apostles answered, “We must obey God, not men. 30 The God of our ancestors raised Jesus from death, after you had killed him by nailing him to a cross. 31 God raised him to his right side as Leader and Saviour, to give the people of Israel the opportunity to repent and have their sins forgiven. 32 We are witnesses to these things—we and the Holy Spirit, who is God's gift to those who obey him.” 33 When the members of the Council heard this, they were so furious that they wanted to have the apostles put to death. 34 But one of them, a Pharisee named Gamaliel, who was a teacher of the Law and was highly respected by all the people, stood up in the Council. He ordered the apostles to be taken out for a while, 35 and then he said to the Council, “Fellow Israelites, be careful what you do to these men. 36 You remember 8
that Theudas appeared some time ago, claiming to be somebody great, and about four hundred men joined him. But he was killed, all his followers were scattered, and his movement died out. 37 After that, Judas the Galilean appeared during the time of the census; he drew a crowd after him, but he also was killed, and all his followers were scattered. 38 And so in this case, I tell you, do not take any action against these men. Leave them alone! If what they have planned and done is of human origin, it will disappear, 39 but if it comes from God, you cannot possibly defeat them. You could find yourselves fighting against God! The Council followed Gamaliel's advice. 40 They called the apostles in, had them whipped, and ordered them never again to speak in the name of Jesus; and then they set them free. 41 As the apostles left the Council, they were happy, because God had considered them worthy to suffer disgrace for the sake of Jesus. Response:
Hear the word of the Lord, Thanks be to God.

Second Reading: Revelation 5:11-14 11-12 Then in my vision I heard the voices of many angels encircling the throne, the living creatures and the elders. There were myriads of myriads and thousands of thousands, crying in a great voice, “Worthy is the Lamb who was slain to receive power and riches and wisdom, and strength and honour and glory and blessing!” 13 Then I heard the voice of everything created in Heaven, upon earth, under the earth and upon the sea, and all that are in them saying, “Blessing and honour and glory and power be to him who sits on the throne, and to the Lamb, for ever and ever!” 14 The four living creatures said, “Amen”, while the elders fell down and worshipped. Response:
Hear the word of the Lord, Thanks be to God. 11

The Lord be with you, and also with you. The gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ, according to Saint John chapter 21 beginning at the 1st verse.
21 1-4 Later on, Jesus showed himself again to his disciples on the shore of Lake Tiberias, and he did it in this way. Simon Peter, Thomas (called the Twin), Nathanael from Cana in Galilee, the sons of Zebedee and two other disciples were together, when Simon Peter said, “I’m going fishing.” “All right,” they replied, “we’ll go with you.” So they went out and got into the boat and during the night caught nothing at all. But just as dawn began to break, Jesus stood there on the beach, although the disciples had no idea that it was Jesus. 5 “Have you caught anything, lads?” Jesus called out to them. “No,” they replied. 6-7a “Throw the net on the right side of the boat,” said Jesus, “and you’ll have a catch.” So they threw out the net and found that they were now not strong enough to pull it in because it was so full of fish! At this, the disciple that Jesus loved said to Peter, “It is the Lord!” 7b-11 Hearing this, Peter slipped on his clothes, for he had been naked, and plunged into the sea. The other disciples followed in the boat, for they were only about a hundred yards from the shore, dragging in the net full of fish. When they had landed, they saw that a charcoal fire was burning, with a fish placed on it, and some bread. Jesus said to them, “Bring me some of the fish you’ve just caught.” So Simon Peter got into the boat and hauled the net ashore full of large fish, one hundred and fifty-three altogether. But in spite of the large number the net was not torn. 12 Then Jesus said to them, “Come and have your breakfast.” None of the disciples dared to ask him who he was; they knew it was the Lord. 13-14 Jesus went and took the bread and gave it to them and gave them all fish as well. This is already the third time that Jesus showed himself to his disciples after his resurrection from the dead. 15 When they had finished breakfast Jesus said to Simon Peter, “Simon, son of John, do you love me more than these others?” “Yes, Lord,” he replied, “you know that I am your friend.” 13
16 “Then
feed my lambs,” returned Jesus. Then he said for the second time, “Simon, son of John, do you love me?” “Yes, Lord,” returned Peter. “You know that I am your friend.” 17 “Then care for my sheep,” replied Jesus. Then for the third time, Jesus spoke to him and said, “Simon, son of John, are you my friend?” Peter was deeply hurt because Jesus’ third question to him was “Are you my friend?”, and he said, “Lord, you know everything. You know that I am your friend!” 18 “Then feed my sheep,” Jesus said to him. “I tell you truly, Peter, that when you were younger, you used to dress yourself and go where you liked, but when you are an old man, you are going to stretch out your hands and someone else will dress you and take you where you do not want to go.” 19 (He said this to show the kind of death—by crucifixion—by which Peter was going to honour God.) Then Jesus said to him, “You must follow me.” John 21:1-19 Gospel Response: This is the gospel of the Lord,

Offertory Hymn: Now the green blade riseth NEH 115
1. Now the green blade riseth, from the buried grain, wheat that in the dark earth, many days has lain: love lives again, that with the dead has been: Love is come again, like wheat that springeth green. 2. In the grave they laid him, Love whom men had slain, thinking that never he would awake again, laid in the earth like grain that sleeps unseen. Love is come again, like wheat that springeth green. 3. Forth he came at Easter, like the risen grain, he that for three days in the grave had lain, quick from the dead, my living Lord is seen: Love is come again, like wheat that springeth green. 4. When our hearts are wintry, grieving, or in pain, thy touch can call us back to life again — fields of our hearts, that dead and bare have been: Love is come again, like wheat that springeth green.

THE BREAKING OF THE BREAD AND THE COMMUNION {Celebrant} We break this bread to share in the body of Christ. We who are many are one body, for we all share in the one bread. The Choir sings the Agnus Dei Draw near with faith. Receive the body of our Lord Jesus Christ which he gave for you, and his blood which he shed for you. Eat and drink in remembrance that he died for you, and feed on him in your hearts by faith with thanksgiving. The Choir sings: “Cantate Domino, Pitoni. Baptised Christians who receive Holy Communion in their own church are invited to share communion with us. The consecrated wine may be received: a) from the common cup which is the tradition of the Anglican Church since the Reformation (as outlined in the Book of Common Prayer 1662) by drinking or intinction of the bread. b) from an individual glass upon request. Or you may choose to receive the bread only as Holy Communion in one kind.
Once you have received communion you may wish to pray the following prayer in thanksgiving: Thanks be to you, our Lord Jesus Christ, for all the benefits which you have given us, for all the pains and insults which you have borne for us. Most merciful Redeemer, Friend and Brother, may we know you more clearly, love you more dearly, and follow you more nearly, day by day. Amen. (Richard of Chichester 1197-1253 AD)

Final Hymn: I danced in the morning TiS 242 1. I danced in the morning when the world was begun, and I danced in the moon and the stars and the sun; and I came down from heaven and I Danced on the earth, at Bethlehem I had my birth: Dance then, wherever you may be; I am the Lord of the dance, said he; and I’ll lead you all where ever you may be, and I’ll lead you all in the dance, said he. 2. I danced for the scribe and the pharisee, but they would not dance and they wouldn’t follow me. I danced for the fishermen, for James and John, they came with me and the dance went on: 3. I danced on the Sabbath and I cured the lame: the holy people said it was a shame. They whipped and they stripped and they hung me high, and they left me there on a cross to die: 4. I danced on a Friday when the sky turned black; it’s hard to dance with the devil on your back. They buried my body and they thought I’d gone; but I am the dance and I still go on: 5. They cut me down and I leap up high, I am the life that ’ll never, never die; I’ll live in you as you live in me: I am the Lord of the dance, said he: Sydney Carter 1915–2004 alt.
