Dear Parishioners, Ambrose (339-397 AD), an early church father and bishop of Milan, links the beatitudes with the four cardinal virtues which strengthen us in living a life of moral excellence. He writes: "Let us see how St. Luke encompassed the eight blessings in the four. We know that there are four cardinal virtues: temperance, justice, prudence and fortitude. One who is poor in spirit is not greedy. One who weeps is not proud but is submissive and tranquil. One who mourns is humble. One who is just does not deny what he knows is given jointly to all for us. One who is merciful gives away his own goods. One who bestows his own goods does not seek another's, nor does he contrive a trap for his neighbour. These virtues are interwoven and interlinked, so that one who has one may be seen to have several, and a single virtue befits the saints. Where virtue abounds, the reward too abounds... Thus temperance has purity of heart and spirit, justice has compassion, patience has peace, and endurance has gentleness.â€? (1) God reveals to the humble of heart the true source of abundant life and happiness. Jesus promises his disciples that the joys of heaven will more than compensate for the troubles and hardships they can expect in this world. Thomas Aquinas said: "No person can live without joy. That is why someone deprived of spiritual joy goes after carnal pleasures." Do you know the joy and happiness of hungering and thirsting for God alone? As the Church moves through the Christian Year from Epiphany to Lent we pass through three Sundays which have to modern ears strange titles: Septuagesima, Sexagesima and Quinquagesima, which are in fact three Latin words indicating how far away we are from Easter - that is, 70, 60 & 50 days respectively. From the fifth century after Christ these Sundays emerged as a preparatory cycle for Lent in the Western Church. They appear in our Australian Lectionary and the Book of Common Prayer (1662). The Gesimas serve to place worshippers today in a long tradition of regarding Lent to be so important as a preparation for Easter, the Feast of Feasts, as to require for itself a preliminary preparation, so are a preparation for the Preparation. Thus in these three weeks the faithful begin to turn their minds to Lent, its solemnity and how they will keep it, in joining with their Lord in his fasting, meditating, praying and resisting temptation in the wilderness. The Nicene Creed Let us together affirm the faith of the Church. We believe in one God, the Father, the almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all that is, seen and unseen. We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ, the only Son of God, eternally begotten of the Father, God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, of one Being with the Father; through him all things were made. For us and for our salvation he came down from heaven, was incarnate of the Holy Spirit and the virgin Mary and became truly human. For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate; he suffered death and was buried. On the third day he rose again in accordance with the Scriptures; he ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead, and his kingdom will have no end. We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son, who with the Father and the Son is worshipped and glorified, who has spoken through the prophets. We believe in one holy catholic and apostolic Church. We acknowledge one baptism for the forgiveness of sins. We look for the resurrection of the dead, and the life of the world to come. Amen.

THE BREAKING OF THE BREAD AND THE COMMUNION {Celebrant} We break this bread to share in the body of Christ. We who are many are one body, for we all share in the one bread. The Choir sings the Agnus Dei Draw near with faith. Receive the body of our Lord Jesus Christ which he gave for you, and his blood which he shed for you. Eat and drink in remembrance that he died for you, and feed on him in your hearts by faith with thanksgiving. The Choir sings: â€œAve Verumâ€?, David Wood. Baptised Christians who receive Holy Communion in their own church are invited to share communion with us. The consecrated wine may be received: a) from the common cup which is the tradition of the Anglican Church since the Reformation (as outlined in the Book of Common Prayer 1662) by drinking or intinction of the bread. b) from an individual glass upon request. Or you may choose to receive the bread only as Holy Communion in one kind.

Once you have received communion you may wish to pray the following prayer in thanksgiving: Thanks be to you, our Lord Jesus Christ, for all the benefits which you have given us, for all the pains and insults which you have borne for us. Trinity Times Editorship position The Vicar is looking for an editor of the Trinity Times for the Winter (August 2019) edition onwards. The Vicar will be editing the Easter Trinity Times in the meantime. The Parish needs someone who can pull together material from the parish and coordinate publication with expert assistance in the areas of collation, printing and getting ready for delivery. There are three editions a year, Christmas, Easter and Winter. A three-year voluntary appointment is anticipated in the first instance. Efforts and Investigations into advertising revenue would be an advantage. Mother Prioress and the Carmelite Nuns extend a cordial invitation to the congregation at Holy Trinity to attend the 42nd Interfaith Ecumenical Gathering of the Kew Community Festival at the Carmelite Monastery Church, 94 Stevenson St, Kew on Sunday, March 17th, 2019, 2:30pm. Please add your name to the sign-up sheet at the back of the church by March 3rd if you are interested in attending. The next Trading Table will be held on the first Sunday of March, 3rd March. 22

Church Access: Church: Access is through the Pakington Street entrance. The Chapel door is open for Wednesday services. Church Office: Access is at the northern end of the Church off Pakington Street via the carpark. Vicarage & Memorial Garden: Access is either via the carpark or through the Chapel door if inside the Church. Please note that there are no railings for either the stairs or ramp outside the Chapel door at this stage, so please take care. Church Carpark: Devco are very kindly allowing the HTK carpark to be used by parishioners on a Sunday for Church services. It will only be open BETWEEN 7.30AM AND 1.00PM however, so if you are intending to be at the Church after that time, please ensure you remove your car from the carpark prior to 1.00pm to avoid being locked in until Monday morning. Please remember that the carpark is still part of the building site and subject to insurance restrictions, and Devco are really doing us a huge favour by allowing us to use the carpark, so please keep a very close eye on all children and be careful yourselves, so this privilege is not jeopardised. If there are any issues whatsoever, the carpark will be closed until the entire development is complete.

National Trust Appeal - HTKâ€™s National Trust Appeal has been of huge benefit to the Parish, allowing vital maintenance on the Church that we would have otherwise struggled to fund. We are about to commence work on the Vicarage roof, which is leaking, and the total cost of this is around $100,000 so any donations, small or large, towards this would be very gratefully accepted. Donations are tax deductible. Donation forms are in the rack at the back of the church or speak to Brenda in the church office or call Alan Wilson on 0414 470 460.

Anglican Code of Conduct for Child Safety Holy Trinity Child and Vulnerable Persons Policy. The Parish Council (upon the recommendations of HTK Child and Vulnerable Person sub-committee) has endorsed the Holy Trinity Child Safe and Vulnerable Persons Policy. Holy Trinity Kew is committed to protecting the safety of young people and vulnerable adults who participate in its programs, ministries and events. This includes the Sunday School and the Choir. On 22 March 2018, the Anglican Diocese of Melbourne approved a Code of Conduct for Child Safety. There are copies of the Holy Trinity Child Safe Policy and the Anglican Code of Conduct for Child Safety at the back of the church for your attention. Each parishioner is urged to read Child Safe Policy and the Code of Conduct. If you are an adult who has regular contact with children (anyone under the age of 18 years) you will be requested to make a Statement of Commitment for the Code of Conduct for Child Safety. This process has commenced and will continue in the coming weeks.
