THE MINISTRY OF THE WORD Readings from 'New Revised Standard Version' (NRSV) First Reading: Hosea 4:1-6 Hear the word of the LORD, O people of Israel; for the LORD has an indictment against the inhabitants of the land. The gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ, according to Saint Mark chapter 9 beginning at the 30th verse. Glory to you Lord Jesus Christ They went on from there and passed through Galilee. He did not want anyone to know it; 31 for he was teaching his disciples, saying to them, ‘The Son of Man is to be betrayed into human hands, and they will kill him, and three days after being killed, he will rise again.’ 32 But they did not understand what he was saying and were afraid to ask him. 33 Then they came to Capernaum; and when he was in the house he asked them, ‘What were you arguing about on the way?’ 34 But they were silent, for on the way they had argued with one another about who was the greatest. 35 He sat down, called the twelve, and said to them, ‘Whoever wants to be first must be last of all and servant of all.’ 36 Then he took a little child and put it among them; and taking it in his arms, he said to them, 37 ‘Whoever welcomes one such child in my name welcomes me, and whoever welcomes me welcomes not me but the one who sent me.’ Mark 9:30-37 30

The Nicene Creed Let us together affirm the faith of the Church. We believe in one God, the Father, the almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all that is, seen and unseen. We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ, the only Son of God, eternally begotten of the Father, God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, of one Being with the Father; through him all things were made. For us and for our salvation he came down from heaven, was incarnate of the Holy Spirit and the virgin Mary and became truly human. For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate; he suffered death and was buried. On the third day he rose again in accordance with the Scriptures; he ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead, and his kingdom will have no end. We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son, who with the Father and the Son is worshipped and glorified, who has spoken through the prophets. Agnus Dei We pray together: Jesus, Lamb of God, have mercy on us. Jesus, bearer of our sins, have mercy on us. Jesus, redeemer of the world, grant us your peace. Draw near with faith. Receive the body of our Lord Jesus Christ which he gave for you, and his blood which he shed for you. Eat and drink in remembrance that he died for you, and feed on him in your hearts by faith with thanksgiving. Baptised Christians who receive Holy Communion in their own church are invited to share communion with us. The consecrated wine may be received: a) from the common cup which is the tradition of the Anglican Church since the Reformation (as outlined in the Book of Common Prayer 1662) by drinking or intinction of the bread. b) from an individual glass upon request. Or you may choose to receive the bread only as Holy Communion in one kind. 13

Calendar Fundraiser: The 2019 Australian Anglican Church Calendar is now available and can be purchased through us for $15. An example is on the table at the back of the Church so please have a look and if you would like a calendar for yourself or family/friends, please write your name on the list with the number required, put your money in an envelope with your name on it and place it in the box provided. Calendars will be ordered mid-October and will arrive early November. Father Robert and Jane will be away from the parish from the 17th of September until the 8th October inclusive. During this time they will travelling to meet up with family in Italy to celebrate their Silver Wedding Anniversary. We wish them well for their trip and congratulate them on 25 years of Christian faithful marriage. Fr Robert Holland will be the locum during the Vicar’s absence. National Trust Appeal - HTK’s National Trust Appeal has been of huge benefit to the Parish, allowing vital maintenance on the Church that we would have otherwise struggled to fund. We are about to commence work on the Vicarage roof, which is leaking, and the total cost of this is around $100,000 so any donations, small or large, towards this would be very gratefully accepted. Report from the Holy Trinity Kew Anglicare Group (officially Holy Trinity Kew Anglicare Victoria Partnership Group) from our meeting on Tuesday 11 September in the Vicarage Broadmeadows Women’s Community House Project. Retiring Collection on Sunday 30 September 2018 The Vicar spoke of the many supporters of Anglicare within the congregation who are unable to attend daytime, midweek meetings but still wish to be informed and involved. So we hope this report brings you up to date and keeps you in touch. The group heard over a phone link from Helen Slonek at the Broadmeadows Women’s Community House who reported on the opportunities available to immigrant women at the Centre. One very important one is English Language classes which aid integration and help reduce an immigrant’s isolation within the community. Whilst Government funding is available for the lessons, none is available for childcare for Term 4 – necessary if you have small children. The cost of childcare for the group is a staggering $2000 per term. We as a group felt that contributing our funds to childcare, thus allowing more women to attend classes would have a very good outcome. Helen said that being able to report to Government that they had funding for childcare from an outside group would also help their application for more class funding. Please help this worthwhile cause by supporting the Retiring Collection or at any other time with an envelope marked ‘Anglicare Broadmeadows Women’s Communiy House’ in the Sunday collection. Update on Access: Memorial Garden: We now have access to the Memorial Garden either using the outside path going around the northern end of the Church or through the Chapel door. Please note that there are no railings for either the stairs or ramp outside the Chapel door at this stage, so please take care. Church: Access is through the Pakington Street entrance as before but the Chapel door will now be open for Wednesday services. Access through the main gates or main doors remains closed. Church Office and Vicarage: Access remains the same - at the northern end of the Church off Pakington Street. There are two alternatives for access from Pakington Street - stairs and a pathway, both outside the Church office. Anglican Code of Conduct for Child Safety Holy Trinity Child and Vulnerable Persons Policy. The Parish Council (upon the recommendations of HTK Child and Vulnerable Person sub-committee) has endorsed the Holy Trinity Child Safe and Vulnerable Persons Policy. Holy Trinity Kew is committed to protecting the safety of young people and vulnerable adults who participate in its programs, ministries and events. This includes the Sunday School and the Choir. On 22 March 2018, the Anglican Diocese of Melbourne approved a Code of Conduct for Child Safety. There are copies of the Holy Trinity Child Safe Policy and the Anglican Code of Conduct for Child Safety at the back of the church for your attention. Each parishioner is urged to read Child Safe Policy and the Code of Conduct. If you are an adult who has regular contact with children (anyone under the age of 18 years) you will be requested to make a Statement of Commitment for the Code of Conduct for Child Safety. This process has commenced and will continue in the coming weeks. The Parish Council and the Holy Trinity Child Safe Sub Committee thank you for your continued support and cooperation in promoting a Child Safe parish.
