Dear Parishioners, When we receive from the Lord's table we unite ourselves to Jesus Christ, who makes us sharers in his body and blood and partakers of his divine life. Ignatius of Antioch (35-107 AD), an early church father and martyr, calls it the "one bread that provides the medicine of immortality, the antidote for death, and the food that makes us live for ever in Jesus Christ”. Basil the Great (330 - 379 AD) Doctor of the Church put it this way: “To communicate each day and to partake of the holy Body and Blood of Christ is good and beneficial; for He says quite plainly: "He that eats My Flesh and drinks My Blood has eternal life." Who can doubt that to share continually in life is the same thing as having life abundantly? supernatural food is healing for both body and soul and strength for our journey heavenward.” When you approach the Table of the Lord, what do you expect to receive? Healing, pardon, comfort, and rest for your soul? The Lord has much more for us, more than we can ask or imagine. The principal fruit of receiving the Eucharist or Lord's Supper is an intimate union with Christ. As bodily nourishment restores lost strength, so the Eucharist strengthens us in charity and enables us to break with disordered attachments to creatures and to be more firmly rooted in the love of Christ. The Nicene Creed Let us together affirm the faith of the Church. We believe in one God, the Father, the almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all that is, seen and unseen. We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ, the only Son of God, eternally begotten of the Father, God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, of one Being with the Father; through him all things were made. For us and for our salvation he came down from heaven, was incarnate of the Holy Spirit and the virgin Mary and became truly human. For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate; he suffered death and was buried. On the third day he rose again in accordance with the Scriptures; he ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead, and his kingdom will have no end. We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son, who with the Father and the Son is worshipped and glorified, who has spoken through the prophets. We believe in one holy catholic and apostolic Church. We acknowledge one baptism for the forgiveness of sins. We look for the resurrection of the dead, and the life of the world to come. Amen.

THE BREAKING OF THE BREAD AND THE COMMUNION {Celebrant} We break this bread to share in the body of Christ. We who are many are one body, for we all share in the one bread. The Choir sings the Agnus Dei Draw near with faith. Receive the body of our Lord Jesus Christ which he gave for you, and his blood which he shed for you. Eat and drink in remembrance that he died for you, and feed on him in your hearts by faith with thanksgiving. The Choir sings: â€œAve Verumâ€?, Mozart. Baptised Christians who receive Holy Communion in their own church are invited to share communion with us. The consecrated wine may be received: a) from the common cup which is the tradition of the Anglican Church since the Reformation (as outlined in the Book of Common Prayer 1662) by drinking or intinction of the bread. b) from an individual glass upon request. Or you may choose to receive the bread only as Holy Communion in one kind.

Once you have received communion you may wish to pray the following prayer in thanksgiving: Thanks be to you, our Lord Jesus Christ, for all the benefits which you have given us, for all the pains and insults which you have borne for us. Thanks to everyone who assisted in writing articles and the production of this edition of Trinity Times. Sunday School Trading Table made $585 last week. National Trust Appeal - HTKâ€™s National Trust Appeal has been of huge benefit to the Parish, allowing vital maintenance on the Church that we would have otherwise struggled to fund. We are about to commence work on the Vicarage roof, which is leaking, and the total cost of this is around $100,000 so any donations, small or large, towards this would be very gratefully accepted. Donations are tax deductible. Donation forms are in the rack at the back of the church, or speak to Brenda in the church office or call Alan Wilson on 0414 470 460. Update on Access from 5/8/2018: Memorial Garden: We now have access to the Memorial Garden either using the outside path going around the northern end of the Church or through the Chapel door. Please note that there are no railings for either the stairs or ramp outside the Chapel door at this stage, so please take care. Church: Access is through the Pakington Street entrance as before but the Chapel door will now be open for Wednesday services. Access through the main gates or main doors remains closed. Church Office and Vicarage: Access remains the same - at the northern end of the Church off Pakington Street. There are two alternatives for access from Pakington Street - stairs and a pathway, both outside the Church office. 8am Sunday Roster allocations In most Anglican congregations in Melbourne the 8am service on a Sunday characteristically involves a congregation of 10-30 people and usually there would be a roster that involves 1 to 2 people. At Holy Trinity currently we try to roster 5 people in various roles at the 8am service and are struggling to do this effectively. 21

We are very short of volunteers to fulfil the various roles as outlined in the service roster for Sunday 8am services. Particularly, we have no robed server for the 2nd, 4th and 5th Sunday to assist the priest and administer the eucharistic cups. We are also short of readers and chalice assistants and welcomers. We need to fill reliably these positions for the roster or we need to change the way we do things. If you have any ideas to solve this problem practically and once and for all please let the Vicar know. For the new roster in August if we have no new volunteers to robe as servers who can reliably cover the 2nd, 4th and 5th Sundays- the priest will assist themselves and the eucharistic cups once consecrated will be placed by the priest on a small table at the western end of the altar rail for people to take after receiving the Body of Christ. Also if we cannot fill places in the roster for chalice assistants, the priest will fill those roles. Hopefully one way or another we will ease the burden of the various roles upon the congregation for 8am by filling reliably the 5 positions each week or go to a lighter model reflecting what happens in many other churches. The Parish Council (upon the recommendations of HTK Child and Vulnerable Person sub-committee) has endorsed the Holy Trinity Child Safe and Vulnerable Persons Policy. Holy Trinity Kew is committed to protecting the safety of young people and vulnerable adults who participate in its programs, ministries and events. This includes the Sunday School and the Choir. On 22 March 2018, the Anglican Diocese of Melbourne approved a Code of Conduct for Child Safety. There are copies of the Holy Trinity Child Safe Policy and the Anglican Code of Conduct for Child Safety at the back of the church for your attention. Each parishioner is urged to read Child Safe Policy and the Code of Conduct. If you are an adult who has regular contact with children (anyone under the age of 18 years) you will be requested to make a Statement of Commitment for the Code of Conduct for Child Safety. This process has commenced and will continue in the coming weeks.
