Dear Parishioners, Are you missing out on what's most important in life? Being unprepared can lead to unnecessary trouble, failure and even disaster! What good is a life-jacket left on the shore when the ship of state is sinking? Jesus' story of ten single maidens waiting for a wedding procession in the middle of the night seems strange to us today. But to Jesus' audience this made absolute sense as they all knew too well how easily this could happen to them. Wedding customs in ancient Palestine required vigilance and preparation for everyone involved. The bride and groom did not go away for their honeymoon, but celebrated for a whole week with their family and friends. It was the custom for the groom, in company with his friends, to come at his discretion and get his bride and bring her to their new home. They would take the most circuitous route possible so that many villagers along the way could join in the wedding procession. Once they arrived and closed the doors, no one else could be admitted. If the groom decided to come and bring his bride at night, then lights were required by necessity to guide the travellers through the dark and narrow streets. No one was allowed on the village streets at night without a lamp. To appear for a wedding party without proper attire and travel arrangements is like trying to get into a special event today that requires a strict dress code. You just donâ€™t get in without the proper attire. Jesus warns us that there are always consequences for being unprepared. There are certain things you cannot obtain at the last moment. For example, students cannot prepare for their exams when the day of testing is already upon them. A person cannot get the right kind of character, strength, and skill required for a task at hand unless they already possess it. When the Lord Jesus comes to lead you to his heavenly banquet will you be ready to hear his voice and follow? Our eternal welfare depends on our hearing, and many have trained themselves to not hear. We will not be prepared to meet the Lord, face to face, when he calls us on the day of judgment, unless we listen to him today. The Lord invites us to feast at his heavenly banquet table. The Nicene Creed Let us together affirm the faith of the Church. We believe in one God, the Father, the almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all that is, seen and unseen. We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ, the only Son of God, eternally begotten of the Father, God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, of one Being with the Father; through him all things were made. For us and for our salvation he came down from heaven, was incarnate of the Holy Spirit and the virgin Mary and became truly human. For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate; he suffered death and was buried. On the third day he rose again in accordance with the Scriptures; he ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead, and his kingdom will have no end. We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son, who with the Father and the Son is worshipped and glorified, who has spoken through the prophets. We believe in one holy catholic and apostolic Church. We acknowledge one baptism for the forgiveness of sins. We look for the resurrection of the dead, and the life of the world to come. Amen.

We pray for: Diocese of Ughelli, Nigeria; Ministry with the Torres Strait Islander people of Australia; Hospital Chaplaincy; Caroline Springs Parish; St John's Diamond Creek, 150th Anniversary; St Paul’s, Caulfield North, Confirmation Service; St Augustine’s, Mentone, Pastoral Visit. THE BREAKING OF THE BREAD AND THE COMMUNION {Celebrant}

We break this bread to share in the body of Christ. We who are many are one body, For we all share in the one bread.

The Choir sings the Agnus Dei Draw near with faith. Receive the body of our Lord Jesus Christ which he gave for you, and his blood which he shed for you. Eat and drink in remembrance that he died for you, and feed on him in your hearts by faith with thanksgiving. The Choir sings: â€œAve Verumâ€?, Mozart. Baptised Christians who receive Holy Communion in their own church are invited to share communion with us. The consecrated wine may be received: a) from the common cup which is the tradition of the Anglican Church since the Reformation (as outlined in the Book of Common Prayer 1662) by drinking or intinction of the bread. b) from an individual glass upon request. Or you may choose to receive the bread only as Holy Communion in one kind.

Once you have received communion you may wish to pray the following prayer in thanksgiving: Thanks be to you, our Lord Jesus Christ, for all the benefits which you have given us, for all the pains and insults which you have borne for us. NOTICE OF ANNUAL PARISH MEETING- SUNDAY 19TH NOVEMBER FOLLOWING THE 10AM SERVICE IN THE CHURCH. (11.35am). All written reports to the Parish office by Friday 10th November. The Electoral Roll Committee of the Parish will revise the electoral roll by Saturday the 4th of November and display it on Sunday the 5th November in the Church. Please note the new eligibility rules since 2013 on membership of the electoral roll below (excerpt from the Parish Governance Act 2013): A person is not entitled to be upon the roll of more than one parish or Authorised Anglican Congregation, or upon the roll of a parish and an Authorised Anglican Congregation. (3) The parish electoral roll is to contain the names and postal addresses of lay persons who are of at least eighteen years of age and whoâ€” (a) are baptised; (b) regularly and habitually attend public worship at a worship centre in the parish; (c) have signed an application seeking to be included on the roll and declaring thatâ€” (i) they are a member of the Anglican Church of Australia or of a church in communion with the Anglican Church of Australia; (ii) they are not a member of any church which is not in communion with the Anglican Church of Australia; and (iii) they are not on the parish electoral roll of any other parish or any Authorised Anglican Congregation in the Diocese other than a roll from which they wish their name to be removed. (4) Without limiting other grounds on which a person may be taken to have regularly and habitually attended public worship in a worship centre in a parish, for the purposes of this section a person who has attended public worship at a worship centre 12 times in the preceding 12 months and three times in the preceding three months is considered to have regularly and habitually attended public worship at that worship centre.

There is a call for nominations forâ€” (a) 2 churchwardens; (b) 6 elected members of the parish council; and (c) 2 members of the incumbency committee. Nominations must be in writing and signed byâ€” (a) the person nominated; (b) the proposer; and (c) the seconder, each of whom must be a parishioner and not a disqualified person. If the person nominated is unable to sign the nomination, there may be a statement signed by the proposer and seconder to the effect that the person nominated has consented to the nomination. Where there is no nomination for a position (including where the number of vacancies exceeds the number of nominations) there is a casual vacancy in that position.
