Dear Parishioners, Jesus makes it clear that there is no limit to giving and receiving forgiveness. He emphasised the lesson with a parable about two very different kinds of debts. The first man owed an enormous sum of money. In Jesus' time this amount was greater than the total revenue of a province - more than it would cost to ransom a king! The man who was forgiven such an incredible debt could not, however, bring himself to forgive his neighbour a very small debt which was about one-hundred-thousandth of his own debt. The contrast could not have been greater! No offence our neighbour can do to us can compare with our own personal debt to God for offending him! We have been forgiven an enormous debt we could not repay on our own. Paul the Apostle states, "you were bought with a price" (1 Corinthians 7:23 ) and that price was Jesus' death on the cross. Through the shedding of his blood on the cross, Jesus not only brought forgiveness and pardon for our offences, but release from our captivity to Satan and bondage to sin. If God has shown mercy to us in granting us pardon for our sins, then we, in turn, must show mercy and forgiveness towards every person who has offended us. The willingness to forgive those who offend us is a sacred duty. If we expect God to pardon us and show us his mercy when we sin and disobey his commandments, then we must be willing to let go of any resentment, grievance, or ill-will we feel towards our neighbour. Jesus teaches us to pray daily for the grace and strength to forgive others in the same measure in which God has forgiven us (Matthew 6:12,14-15). If we do not show mercy and forgiveness to our fellow human beings, how can we expect God to forgive us in turn? The Apostle James says that "judgment is without mercy to one who has shown no mercy" (James 2:13). Without mercy justice is cold, calculating, and even cruel. Mercy seasons justice as salt seasons meat and gives it flavour. Mercy follows justice and perfects it. Justice demands that the wrong be addressed. To show mercy without addressing the wrong and to pardon the unrepentant is not true mercy but license. C.S. Lewis wrote: “Mercy detached from justice grows unmerciful. That is the important paradox. As there are plants that will flourish only in mountain soil, so it appears that Mercy will flower only when it grows in the crannies of the rock of Justice: transplanted to the marshlands of mere Humanitarianism, it becomes a man-eating weed, all the more dangerous because it is still called by the same name as the mountain variety.”(1) If we want mercy shown to us we must be ready to forgive others from the heart as God has forgiven us. Do you hold any grudge or resentment towards anyone? Ask the Lord to purify your heart that you may show mercy and loving-kindness to all - and especially to those who cause you grief and ill-will. SERMON (copy of sermon available at back of church and a selection of sermons, some current and past, available on web) The Nicene Creed Let us together affirm the faith of the Church. We believe in one God, the Father, the almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all that is, seen and unseen. We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ, the only Son of God, eternally begotten of the Father, God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, of one Being with the Father; through him all things were made. For us and for our salvation he came down from heaven, was incarnate of the Holy Spirit and the virgin Mary and became truly human. For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate; he suffered death and was buried. On the third day he rose again in accordance with the Scriptures; he ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead, and his kingdom will have no end. THE BREAKING OF THE BREAD AND THE COMMUNION {Celebrant}

We break this bread to share in the body of Christ. We who are many are one body, For we all share in the one bread.

The Choir sings the Agnus Dei Draw near with faith. Receive the body of our Lord Jesus Christ which he gave for you, and his blood which he shed for you. Eat and drink in remembrance that he died for you, and feed on him in your hearts by faith with thanksgiving. The Choir sings: â€œGod be in my headâ€?, Bayley. Baptised Christians who receive Holy Communion in their own church are invited to share communion with us. The cost of the full set of robes is not cheap, but it will be great to have a matching set of quality robes for all choristers. Along with the cost of the robes, there is the cost of shipping from the UK as well as an expected Customs fee upon arrival in Australia. We are currently short $500 on the set of robes and possibly the same again in postage and duties. If you feel able to support this shortfall, any size donation to the church office (marked “choir robes”) will be very gratefully received indeed. Stephen. Holy Trinity Kew - Proposed child safe subcommittee Urgent request for assistance Recommendations have been made by the Anglican Diocese of Melbourne, the Royal Commission into Institutional Responses to Child Sexual Abuse and the Victorian Government regarding Child Safe organisations. Subject to the approval of the Holy Trinity parish council it is proposed to establish a Child Safe subcommittee. The proposed subcommittee would assist the parish council and make recommendations to establish Child Safe policy and procedures for the parish. This is to ensure that Holy Trinity complies with recent changes to the law in Victoria and the Canons passed by the General Synod of the Anglican Church of Australia. The work of the committee would be short term, as it is the parish council that is responsible for parish policy and procedures. If interested, you are invited to join the proposed sub-committee to assist the parish in transforming itself into a Child Safe place. Building Project Update: The water connection for the Parish Centre is scheduled for Wednesday 20 September. The works will be in Pakington Street near the High Street intersection and it is possible that the footpath and the side entrance to the church will be blocked. The High Street entrance should not be affected. Photos of the Development Would anybody who takes photographs of the building development please send a copy to the Church Office for compilation/storage?
