Dear Parishioners, St Augustine Bishop of Hippo (354-430 AD) had this to say about our Gospel this morning: "If someone has done you injury and you have suffered, what should be done? You have heard the answer already in today's scripture: 'If your brother sins against you, go and tell him his fault, between you and him alone.' If you fail to do so, you are worse than he is. He has done someone harm, and by doing harm he has stricken himself with a grievous wound. Will you then completely disregard your brother's wound? Will you simply watch him stumble and fall down? Will you disregard his predicament? If so, you are worse in your silence than he in his abuse. Therefore, when any one sins against us, let us take great care, but not merely for ourselves. For it is a glorious thing to forget injuries. Just set aside your own injury, but do not neglect your brother's wound. Therefore 'go and tell him his fault, between you and him alone,' intent upon his amendment but sparing his sense of shame. For it might happen that through defensiveness he will begin to justify his sin, and so you will have inadvertently nudged him still closer toward the very behaviour you desire to amend. Second Reading: Romans 13.1-10 Let every person be subject to the governing authorities; for there is no authority except from God, and those authorities that exist have been instituted by God. 2 Therefore whoever resists authority resists what God has appointed, and those who resist will incur judgement.3 For rulers are not a terror to good conduct, but to bad. Do you wish to have no fear of the authority? Then do what is good, and you will receive its approval; 4 for it is God’s servant for your good. We believe in one God, the Father, the almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all that is, seen and unseen. We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ, the only Son of God, eternally begotten of the Father, God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, of one Being with the Father; through him all things were made. For us and for our salvation he came down from heaven, was incarnate of the Holy Spirit and the virgin Mary and became truly human. For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate; he suffered death and was buried. On the third day he rose again in accordance with the Scriptures; he ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead, and his kingdom will have no end. THE BREAKING OF THE BREAD AND THE COMMUNION {Celebrant}
We break this bread to share in the body of Christ. We who are many are one body, For we all share in the one bread.
The Choir sings the Agnus Dei Draw near with faith. Receive the body of our Lord Jesus Christ which he gave for you, and his blood which he shed for you. Eat and drink in remembrance that he died for you, and feed on him in your hearts by faith with thanksgiving. The Choir sings: “Set me as a Seal�, Clausen. Baptised Christians who receive Holy Communion in their own church are invited to share communion with us. The consecrated wine may be received: a) from the common cup which is the tradition of the Anglican Church since the Reformation (as outlined in the Book of Common Prayer 1662) by drinking or intinction of the bread. b) from an individual glass upon request. Or you may choose to receive the bread only as Holy Communion in one kind.

Spring Clean of the Memorial Chapel You are invited to join the Vicar and our Associate Priest Fr Robert Holland on Saturday 16 September at 10 am to spring clean the Memorial Chapel. There are many areas of the chapel that need dusting and even washing, especially the surrounds of the stained glass windows. All the necessary equipment will be provided. In words of the Rule of St Benedict “labore est orare” to work is to pray and to pray is to work. So where better than in the Chapel. New Choir Robes – funding shortfall The order for new choir robes has now been finalised. The cost of the full set of robes is not cheap, but it will be great to have a matching set of quality robes for all choristers. Along with the cost of the robes, there is the cost of shipping from the UK as well as an expected Customs fee upon arrival in Australia. We are currently short $500 on the set of robes and possibly the same again in postage and duties. If you feel able to support this shortfall, any size donation to the church office (marked “choir robes”) will be very gratefully received indeed. Stephen. Building Project Update: The water connection for the Parish Centre is scheduled for Wednesday 20 September. The works will be in Pakington Street near the High Street intersection and it is possible that the footpath and the side entrance to the church will be blocked. The High Street entrance should not be affected. Photos of the Development Would anybody who takes photographs of the building development please send a copy to the Church Office for compilation/storage? ARCHBISHOP PHILIP FREIER - THOUGHTS AND OPINION PLEASE VOTE IN THE PLEBISCITE Soon Australians will be given the opportunity to vote on whether to change Australia’s marriage law to include same-sex marriage. I want to encourage all Anglicans to exercise their democratic right and support the postal plebiscite. Although the plebiscite is not legally binding, I believe that Parliament will find it hard to ignore the express will of a sizeable majority, should either side achieve that. Anglicans, like other Australians, have a wide range of opinions on same-sex marriage, supporting or opposing it for a variety of reasons in accordance with their conscience and their understanding of the principles and issues. I do not presume to advise others how they should vote, though I myself intend to vote “no”. I think Anglicans can provide, and indeed already are providing, a model for wider society in the courteous and eirenic way we disagree, respecting that each side’s position can be a principled and considered one, and without vilifying our opponents. The question will be discussed at General Synod next month, and I hope and trust that we will do so in the most generous spirit. As I wrote to Australia’s Anglican bishops late last year, before Parliament rejected the first plebiscite proposal, if same-sex marriage becomes law the Church must accept that it will then be part of the landscape. We can still stand for and offer holy matrimony between a man and a woman as a sacred ordinance given by God, while accepting that the state has endorsed a wider view of marriage. The doctrine of the Book of Common Prayer remains unchanged, that marriage is between a man and a woman, under God, forsaking all others until death parts them. I do not believe that the Anglican Church in Australia is likely to revise its doctrine of marriage. But that said, the Church also understands the desire of two people to express their commitment of love and self-sacrifice to each other, and that Christians have not always shown the respect or perspective they should. We understand that sometimes gays, lesbians and others have felt judged and rejected, even ostracised, inside the Church and that we have to be much more pastorally sensitive in future. As I suggested to the bishops, what matters is that we approach this question with prayer and confidence in the Church’s teaching as well as kindness in our speech towards those with whom we disagree.
