Dear Parishioners, Jesus gave his disciples a two-fold commission: to speak in his name and to act with his power. The core of the gospel message is emphatic, that the kingdom of God is imminent! What is the kingdom of God? It is that society of men and women who submit to God and who honour him as their King and Lord. In the Lord’s prayer we pray for God to reign in our lives and in our world: May your kingdom come and your will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Jesus also commissioned his disciples to carry on the works which he did, bringing the Gospel to the world and the healing power of God to the weary and oppressed. Jesus said to his disciples: Freely you have received, freely give. What they had received from Jesus they must pass on to others without expecting remuneration. They must show by their attitude that their first interest is God, not material gain. They must serve with wisdom, full of charity and peace. They must give their full attention to the proclamation of God’s kingdom and not be diverted by other lesser things. They must do their work, not for what they can get out of it or according to the expectation of others but for what they can give freely unhindered without expecting special privileges or reward, according to the standards of God, not the world. “Poverty of spirit” frees us from greed and preoccupation with possessions and makes ample room for God’s provision. The Lord wants his disciples to be dependent on him and not on themselves or held up in their task. Secondly, Jesus said: the worker deserves his sustenance. Here we see a doubletruth: the worker of God must not be overly-concerned with material things, but the people of God must never fail in their duty to give the worker of God what he needs to sustain himself. Do you pray for the work of the gospel and support it fully with your material resources? Jesus ends his instructions with a warning: If people reject God’s invitation and refuse his word, then they bring condemnation on themselves. When God gives us his word there comes with it the great responsibility to respond. Indifference, knowing the price of everything and the value of nothing and penny pinching will not do. We are either for or against God in how we respond to his word. God gives us his word that we may have life in him. He wills to work through and in each of us for his glory. God shares he word with us and he commissions us to speak it boldly and simply to others. Do you witness the truth and joy of the gospel by word and example to those around you? Yours in Christ, Fr Robert 3
Hymn: Christ is the world’s true light NEH 494
1. Christ is the world's true Light, Its Captain of Salvation, The Day-Star clear and bright Of ev'ry man and nation. New life, new hope awakes Where'er men own His sway; Freedom her bondage breaks, And night is turned to day.
3. One Lord, in one great name Unite us all who own Thee; Cast out our pride and shame That hinder to enthrone Thee. The world has waited long, Has travailed long in pain, To heal its ancient wrong; Come, Prince of Peace, and reign!
2. In Christ all races meet, Their ancient feuds forgetting, The whole round world complete, From sunrise to its setting. When Christ is throned as Lord, Men shall forsake their fear, To plowshare beat the sword, To pruning hook the spear.

Invocation:
Blessed be God: Father, Son and Holy Spirit. Blessed be God's kingdom, now and for ever.
Greeting:
The Lord be with you. And also with you.
Sentence: We have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have obtained access to this grace in which we stand. Romans 5.1–2
The Collect for Purity: As we gather as God's people let us pray together: Almighty God, to whom all hearts are open, all desires known, and from whom no secrets are hidden: cleanse the thoughts of our hearts by the inspiration of your Holy Spirit, that we may perfectly love you, and worthily magnify your holy name, through Christ our Lord. Amen.
The Summary of the Commandments: ‘Hear, O Israel, the Lord our God, the Lord is one; you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind, and with all your strength.’ Jesus said: ‘This is the great and first commandment. And a second is like it: you shall love your neighbour as yourself.’ Lord, have mercy upon us, and write all these thy laws in our hearts, we beseech thee.
5
The Confession Let us confess our sins in penitence and faith, confident in God's forgiveness. Merciful God, our maker and our judge, we have sinned against you in thought, word, and deed, and in what we have failed to do: we have not loved you with our whole heart; we have not loved our neighbours as ourselves; we repent, and are sorry for all our sins. Father, forgive us. Strengthen us to love and obey you in newness of life; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen. The Absolution Almighty God, who has promised forgiveness to all who turn to him in faith: pardon you and set you free from all your sins, strengthen you in all goodness and keep you in eternal life, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen. The Sunday School now departs to the Memorial Chapel. Any children in the congregation are welcome to join them.

The Collect All-powerful God, in Jesus Christ you turned death into life, and defeat into victory: increase our faith and trust in him, that we may triumph over evil, in the strength of the same Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen. THE MINISTRY OF THE WORD Readings from 'New Revised Standard Version' (NRSV) First Reading: Genesis 18.1-15 The Lord appeared to Abraham by the oaks of Mamre, as he sat at the entrance of his tent in the heat of the day. 2 He looked up and saw three men standing near him. When he saw them, he ran from the tent entrance to meet them, and bowed down to the ground. 3 He said, ‘My lord, if I find favour with you, do not pass by your servant. 4 Let a little water be brought, and wash your feet, and rest yourselves under the tree. 5 Let me bring a little bread, that you may refresh yourselves, and after that you may pass on—since you have come to your servant.’ So they said, ‘Do as you have said.’ 6 And Abraham hastened into the tent to Sarah, and said, ‘Make ready quickly three measures of choice flour, knead it, and make cakes.’ 7 Abraham ran to the herd, and took a calf, tender and good, and gave it to the servant, who hastened to prepare it. 8 Then he took curds and milk and the calf that he had prepared, and set it before them; and he stood by them under the tree while they ate. 9 They said to him, ‘Where is your wife Sarah?’ And he said, ‘There, in the tent.’ 10 Then one said, ‘I will surely return to you in due season, and your wife Sarah shall have a son.’ And Sarah was listening at the tent entrance behind him. 11 Now Abraham and Sarah were old, advanced in age; it had ceased to be with Sarah after the manner of women. 12 So Sarah laughed to herself, saying, ‘After I have grown old, and my husband is old, shall I have pleasure?’ 13 The Lord said to Abraham, ‘Why did Sarah laugh, and say, “Shall I indeed bear a child, now that I am old?” 14 Is anything too wonderful for the Lord? At the set time I will return to you, in due season, and Sarah shall have a son.’ 15 But Sarah denied, saying, ‘I did not laugh’; for she was afraid. He said, ‘Oh yes, you did laugh.’ 1

Second Reading: Romans 5.1-11 1 Therefore, since we are justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, 2 through whom we have obtained access to this grace in which we stand; and we boast in our hope of sharing the glory of God. 3 And not only that, but we also boast in our sufferings, knowing that suffering produces endurance, 4 and endurance produces character, and character produces hope, 5 and hope does not disappoint us, because God’s love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit that has been given to us. 6 For while we were still weak, at the right time Christ died for the ungodly. 7 Indeed, rarely will anyone die for a righteous person—though perhaps for a good person someone might actually dare to die. 8 But God proves his love for us in that while we still were sinners Christ died for us. 9 Much more surely then, now that we have been justified by his blood, will we be saved through him from the wrath of God. 10 For if while we were enemies, we were reconciled to God through the death of his Son, much more surely, having been reconciled, will we be saved by his life.11 But more than that, we even boast in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have now received reconciliation. Response:
Hear the word of the Lord, THANKS BE TO GOD

Gradual Hymn: Eternal Ruler of the ceaseless round NEH 355
1. Eternal Ruler of the ceaseless round Of circling planets singing on their way; Guide to the nations from the night profound Into the glory of the perfect day; Rule in our hearts, that we may ever be Guided and strengthened and upheld by thee. 2. We are of thee, the children of thy love, The brothers of thy well-beloved Son; Descend, O Holy Spirit, like a dove Into our hearts, that we may be as one; As one with thee, to whom we ever tend, As one with him, our Brother and our Friend.
3. We would be one in hatred of all wrong, One in our love of all things sweet and fair, One with the joy that breaketh into song, One with the grief that trembleth into prayer, One in the power that makes the children free To follow truth, and thus to follow thee. 4. O clothe us with thy heavenly armour, Lord, Thy trusty shield, thy sword of love divine: Our inspiration be thy constant word; We ask no victories that are not thine. Give or withhold, let pain or pleasure be; Enough to know that we are serving thee.

WE STAND FOR THE READING OF THE HOLY GOSPEL AS A SIGN OF RESPECT AS WE GREET OUR LORD WHO IS PRESENT IN HIS HOLY WORD. ALLELUIA Sung by Choir & Congregation The Lord be with you AND ALSO WITH YOU The gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ, according to Saint Matthew chapter 9 beginning at the 35th verse.
9 35 Then Jesus went about all the cities and villages, teaching in their synagogues, and proclaiming the good news of the kingdom, and curing every disease and every sickness. 36 When he saw the crowds, he had compassion for them, because they were harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd. 37 Then he said to his disciples, ‘The harvest is plentiful, but the labourers are few; 38 therefore ask the Lord of the harvest to send out labourers into his harvest.’ 10 1 Then Jesus summoned his twelve disciples and gave them authority over unclean spirits, to cast them out, and to cure every disease and every sickness. 2 These are the names of the twelve apostles: first, Simon, also known as Peter, and his brother Andrew; James son of Zebedee, and his brother John; 3 Philip and Bartholomew; Thomas and Matthew the taxcollector; James son of Alphaeus, and Thaddaeus; 4 Simon the Cananaean, and Judas Iscariot, the one who betrayed him.5 These twelve Jesus sent out with the following instructions: ‘Go nowhere among the Gentiles, and enter no town of the Samaritans, 6 but go rather to the lost sheep of the house of Israel. 7 As you go, proclaim the good news, “The kingdom of heaven has come near.” 8 Cure the sick, raise the dead, cleanse the lepers, cast out demons. You received without payment; give without payment. Gospel Response: This is the gospel of the Lord,

SERMON
-
(copy of sermon available at back of church and on web)
The Nicene Creed Let us together affirm the faith of the Church. We believe in one God, the Father, the almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all that is, seen and unseen. We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ, the only Son of God, eternally begotten of the Father, God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, of one Being with the Father; through him all things were made. For us and for our salvation he came down from heaven, was incarnate of the Holy Spirit and the virgin Mary and became truly human. For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate; he suffered death and was buried. On the third day he rose again in accordance with the Scriptures; he ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead, and his kingdom will have no end. We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son, who with the Father and the Son is worshipped and glorified, who has spoken through the prophets. We believe in one holy catholic and apostolic Church. We acknowledge one baptism for the forgiveness of sins. We look for the resurrection of the dead, and the life of the world to come. Amen.

Offertory Hymn: Thy hand, O God, has guided NEH 485
1 Thy hand, O God, has guided thy flock, from age to age; the wondrous tale is written, full clear, on every page; our fathers owned thy goodness, and we their deeds record; and both of this bear witness: one Church, one faith, one Lord.
4 And we, shall we be faithless? Shall hearts fail, hands hang down? Shall we evade the conflict, and cast away our crown? Not so: in God's deep counsels some better thing is stored; we will maintain, unflinching, one church, one faith, one Lord.
2 Thy heralds brought glad tidings to greatest, as to least; they bade men rise, and hasten to share the great King's feast; and this was all their teaching, in every deed and word, to all alike proclaiming one Church, one faith, one Lord.
5 Thy mercy will not fail us, nor leave thy work undone; with thy right hand to help us, the victory shall be won; and then, by men and angels, thy name shall be adored, and this shall be their anthem: one Church, one faith, one Lord.
3 Through many a day of darkness, through many a scene of strife, the faithful few fought bravely, to guard the nation's life. Their Gospel of redemption, sin pardoned, man restored, was all in this enfolded: one Church, one faith, one Lord. 15
Offertory Prayer: Blessed are you, Lord, God of all creation. Through your goodness we have these gifts to share. Accept and use our offerings for your glory and for the service of your kingdom. BLESSED BE GOD FOR EVER.
THE PRAYER OF THANKSGIVING Priest: People: Priest: People: Priest: People: Priest:

THE BREAKING OF THE BREAD AND THE COMMUNION {Celebrant}
We break this bread to share in the body of Christ. We who are many are one body, For we all share in the one bread.
The Choir sings the Agnus Dei Draw near with faith. Receive the body of our Lord Jesus Christ which he gave for you, and his blood which he shed for you. Eat and drink in remembrance that he died for you, and feed on him in your hearts by faith with thanksgiving. The Choir sings: “The True and Living Bread, David Blackwell Baptised Christians who receive Holy Communion in their own church are invited to share communion with us. The consecrated wine may be received: a) from the common cup which is the tradition of the Anglican Church since the Reformation (as outlined in the Book of Common Prayer 1662) by drinking or intinction of the bread. b) from an individual glass upon request. Or you may choose to receive the bread only as Holy Communion in one kind.
Once you have received communion you may wish to pray the following prayer in thanksgiving: Thanks be to you, our Lord Jesus Christ, for all the benefits which you have given us, for all the pains and insults which you have borne for us. Most merciful Redeemer, Friend and Brother, may we know you more clearly, love you more dearly, and follow you more nearly, day by day. Amen. (Richard of Chichester 1197-1253 AD)

Final Hymn: All hail the power of Jesus’ name TiS 224(i)
1. All hail the power of Jesus’ name; let angels prostrate fall; bring forth the royal diadem to crown him Lord of all. 2. Crown him, you martyrs of our God, who from his altar call; praise him whose way of pain you trod, and crown him Lord of all.
4. Sinners, whose love cannot forget the wormwood and the gall, go spread your treasures at his feet and crown him Lord of all. 5. Let every tribe and every tongue responsive to his call, now shout in universal song and crown him Lord of all.
3. As heirs of Israel’s chosen race and ransomed from the fall, hail him who saves you by his grace, and crown him Lord of all.

GENERAL NOTICES BIRTHDAYS: Aneetha De Silva (Last Friday), Barbara Thomson, Michael Tropea, Alan Wilson (Tuesday). Holy Trinity Celebration We will concelebrate our Patronal Festival and the arrival of the final planning permit for our Development Project sometime over the next few Sundays (hopefully). Owing to the close nature of the final approval I will advise as soon as possible when and where we will have our celebration. The Vicar National Trust Appeal With 30 June fast approaching it is an opportune time to make a tax deductable donation to our National Trust Building Appeal. Over the past year the Appeal has paid for the replacement of the Church electrical switchboard, relocation of the electricity meter, major work to the Church roof, and termite protection for the Parish Hall. In the near term, it will fund replacement of the Jubilee Hall electrical switchboard, a new floor in the front part of the Parish Hall, and further electrical work in the Church. These critical maintenance projects are only possible through the Appeal – we could only manage a fraction of this work if it had to be funded from operating income. Donation forms are available at the back of the Church or from Brenda in the Parish Office. Donations of any size are welcome. Thank you to everyone who has supported the Appeal over the past year. Anglicare Group at Holy Trinity Kew: The new Anglicare Group is planning another meeting on Thursday June 22 at 10.30 am in the Chapel -to avoid the building works! Kerry Wise, a team leader from the Broadmeadows Women’s Community House will speak to us. Everyone is invited. Prayer Requests: all names for prayer in the pew sheet require permission from the persons being prayed for in the first instance. 22
