Dear Parishioners, The author to the letter to the Hebrews exhorts us to heed the voice of the Son of God. Moses was the mouthpiece through which God spoke to the people of the old covenant. Jesus is the voice of God, the living Word of God made flesh. Since the Gospel is the full revelation of God, we have a double responsibility to heed it as God's word for today. If those who hear the Gospel reject it, then a worst condemnation awaits them then that of those who rejected the old covenant. In the day of the Lord, when this earth shall pass away and the new age begins, everything that can be shaken will be destroyed. What remains is that which belongs to God and his kingdom. This world as we know it will pass away; but one thing will not pass away, that is our relationship with God. It will last forever. God is a consuming fire. The fire of his love, his Holy Spirit, both purifies and transforms us, removing sin and uncleanness and making us pure and holy as God is holy. Yours in Christ, Fr Robert

Second Reading: Hebrews 12.18-29 You have not come to something that can be touched, a blazing fire, and darkness, and gloom, and a tempest, 19 and the sound of a trumpet, and a voice whose words made the hearers beg that not another word be spoken to them. 20 (For they could not endure the order that was given, ‘If even an animal touches the mountain, it shall be stoned to death.’ 21 Indeed, so terrifying was the sight that Moses said, ‘I tremble with fear.’) 22 But you have come to Mount Zion and to the city of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem, and to innumerable angels in festal gathering, 23 and to the assembly of the firstborn who are enrolled in heaven, and to God the judge of all, and to the spirits of the righteous made perfect, 24 and to Jesus, the mediator of a new covenant, and to the sprinkled blood that speaks a better word than the blood of Abel. 25 See that you do not refuse the one who is speaking; for if they did not escape when they refused the one who warned them on earth, how much less will we escape if we reject the one who warns from heaven! 26 At that time his voice shook the earth; but now he has promised, ‘Yet once more I will shake not only the earth but also the heaven.’ 27 This phrase ‘Yet once more’ indicates the removal of what is shaken—that is, created things—so that what cannot be shaken may remain. 28 Therefore, since we are receiving a kingdom that cannot be shaken, let us give thanks, by which we offer to God an acceptable worship with reverence and awe; 29 for indeed our God is a consuming fire. 18

WE STAND FOR THE READING OF THE HOLY GOSPEL AS A SIGN OF RESPECT AS WE GREET OUR LORD WHO IS PRESENT IN HIS HOLY WORD. The gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ, according to Saint Luke chapter 13 beginning at the 10th verse. GLORY TO YOU, LORD JESUS CHRIST. Now he was teaching in one of the synagogues on the sabbath. 11 And just then there appeared a woman with a spirit that had crippled her for eighteen years. She was bent over and was quite unable to stand up straight. 12 When Jesus saw her, he called her over and said, ‘Woman, you are set free from your ailment.’ 13 When he laid his hands on her, immediately she stood up straight and began praising God.14 But the leader of the synagogue, indignant because Jesus had cured on the sabbath, kept saying to the crowd, ‘There are six days on which work ought to be done; come on those days and be cured, and not on the sabbath day.’ 15 But the Lord answered him and said, ‘You hypocrites! Does not each of you on the sabbath untie his ox or his donkey from the manger, and lead it away to give it water? 16 And ought not this woman, a daughter of Abraham whom Satan bound for eighteen long years, be set free from this bondage on the sabbath day?’17 When he said this, all his opponents were put to shame; and the entire crowd was rejoicing at all the wonderful things that he was doing. 10

Let us pray for the whole state of Christ's Church militant here in earth. (the congregation kneel or sit). ALMIGHTY and everliving God, who by thy holy Apostle hast taught us to make prayers, and supplications, and to give thanks for all men; We humbly beseech thee most mercifully to receive these our prayers, which we offer unto thy Divine Majesty; beseeching thee to inspire continually the Universal Church with the spirit of truth, unity, and concord: And grant, that all they who do confess thy holy Name may agree in the truth of thy holy Word, and live in unity, and godly love. We beseech thee also to save and defend all Christian Kings, Princes, and Governors; and specially thy Servant ELIZABETH our Queen; that under her we may be godly and quietly governed: And grant unto her whole Council, and to all that are put in authority under her, that they may truly and impartially administer justice, to the punishment of wickedness and vice, and to the maintenance of thy true religion, and virtue. Then shall the Priest say to them that come to receive the Holy Communion, YE that do truly and earnestly repent you of your sins, and are in love and charity with your neighbours, and intend to lead a new life, following the commandments of God, and walking from henceforth in his holy ways; Draw near with faith, and take this holy Sacrament to your comfort; and make your humble confession to Almighty God. Then shall this general Confession be made. ALMIGHTY God, Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, Maker of all things, judge of all men; We acknowledge and bewail our manifold sins and wickedness, Which we, from time to time, most grievously have committed, By thought, word, and deed, Against thy Divine Majesty, Provoking most justly thy wrath and indignation against us. When the Priest, standing before the Table, hath so ordered the Bread and Wine, that he may with the more readiness and decency break the Bread before the people, and take the Cup into his hands, he shall say the Prayer of Consecration, as followeth. ALMIGHTY God, our heavenly Father, who of thy tender mercy didst give thine only Son Jesus Christ to suffer death upon the Cross for our redemption; who made there a full, perfect, and sufficient sacrifice, oblation, and satisfaction, for the sins of the whole world; and did institute, and in his holy Gospel command us to continue, a perpetual memory of that his precious death, until his coming again; Hear us, O merciful Father, we most humbly beseech thee; and grant that we receiving these thy creatures of bread and wine, according to thy Son our Saviour Jesus Christ's holy institution, in remembrance of his death and passion, may be partakers of his most blessed Body and Blood: who, in the same night that he was betrayed, (a) took Bread; and, when he had given thanks, (b) he brake it, and gave it to his disciples, saying, Take, eat, (c) this is my Body which is given for you: Do this in remembrance of me. Draw near with faith. Receive the body of our Lord Jesus Christ which he gave for you, and his blood which he shed for you. Eat and drink in remembrance that he died for you, and feed on him in your hearts by faith with thanksgiving.
BAPTISED CHRISTIANS WHO RECEIVE HOLY COMMUNION IN THEIR OWN CHURCH ARE INVITED TO SHARE COMMUNION WITH US. The consecrated wine may be received: a) from the common cup which is the tradition of the Anglican Church since the Reformation (as outlined in the Book of Common Prayer 1662) by drinking or intinction of the bread. b) from an individual glass upon request. Or you may choose to receive the bread only as Holy Communion in one kind. 14
Once you have received communion you may wish to pray the following prayer in thanksgiving: Thanks be to you, our Lord Jesus Christ, for all the benefits which you have given us, for all the pains and insults which you have borne for us. Let us pray in the words that our Lord Jesus Christ has taught us: OUR Father, which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy Name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done, in earth as it is in heaven. When the Parish Electoral Roll Committee meets in October the above criteria will have to be applied without fear or favour. In plain English if you have not attended a public worship service 12 times during the year and 3 times in the preceding months of the Annual Meeting in mid-November your name will have to be deleted from the Parish Electoral Roll and you will not be eligible to vote or speak unless invited at the Annual Meeting. HOLY TRINITY KEW STUDY GROUPS CHRISTIAN PERSPECTIVES – IS IT RIGHT? Postmodern Thought & Influence in Western Society A five session program consisting of a broad exploration and reflection about western society has been written by Rev’d Canon Graeme Winterton. The program aims to encourage discussion and reflection on Christianity in the context of changes in modern society. The course will commence on Sunday 14 August 2016 and finish in the week ending Sunday 18 September 2016. Topics set for discussion include – The Background of Change, Changed Thinking and Attitudes, Societal Impact, and The Heart of the Christian Faith. Two course booklets comprising Course Notes and a Study Guide are available for participants. Price $10.00 for the two booklets. These will be made available upon payment and prior to the commencement of each course. The group discussions will be conducted in three separate weekly sessions and led by Rev’d Robert Newton, Rev’d Robert Holland or Leonie Bird M.A (Theol).
