Dear Parishioners, Holy Scripture makes it clear that God takes no liking in the death of anyone (Ezekiel 33:11). For our Heavenly Father desires life, not death. Jesus not only had compassion for the widow who lost her only son, he also had the ability to restore life and to make an individual whole again. Jesus did something that shocked the sensibilities of the widow and her friends; Jesus approached the bier to make physical contact with the dead man. In the eyes of the Jews contact with a dead body made oneself ritually unclean. Jesus' physical touch and particular affinity with the widow's loss of her only son not only showed the intensity of his love and concern for her, but pointed to his yearning to free everybody from the power of sin and corruption, and even death itself. Jesus' simple words of authority – "Young man, arise" – not only returned him to physical life, but brought liberty and wholeness to his body and soul. Jesus promises everyone who believes in him, that because he lives, we also shall have abundant life with and in him both now and forever (John 14:19). The Collect for Purity: Let us pray together: (kneel or sit) ALMIGHTY God, unto whom all hearts be open, all desires known, and from whom no secrets are hid; Cleanse the thoughts of our hearts by the inspiration of thy Holy Spirit, that we may perfectly love thee, and worthily magnify thy holy Name; through Christ our Lord. WE STAND FOR THE READING OF THE HOLY GOSPEL AS A SIGN OF RESPECT AS WE GREET OUR LORD WHO IS PRESENT IN HIS HOLY WORD. The gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ, according to Saint Luke chapter 7 beginning at the 11th verse. GLORY TO YOU, LORD JESUS CHRIST. Soon afterwards he went to a town called Nain, and his disciples and a large crowd went with him. 12 As he approached the gate of the town, a man who had died was being carried out. He was his mother’s only son, and she was a widow; and with her was a large crowd from the town. 13 When the Lord saw her, he had compassion for her and said to her, ‘Do not weep.’ 14 Then he came forward and touched the bier, and the bearers stood still. And he said, ‘Young man, I say to you, rise!’ 15 The dead man sat up and began to speak, and Jesus gave him to his mother. 16 Fear seized all of them; and they glorified God, saying, ‘A great prophet has risen among us!’ and ‘God has looked favourably on his people!’ 17 This word about him spread throughout Judea and all the surrounding country. 11

Let us pray for the whole state of Christ's Church militant here in earth. (the congregation kneel or sit). ALMIGHTY and everliving God, who by thy holy Apostle hast taught us to make prayers, and supplications, and to give thanks for all men; We humbly beseech thee most mercifully to receive these our prayers, which we offer unto thy Divine Majesty; beseeching thee to inspire continually the Universal Church with the spirit of truth, unity, and concord: And grant, that all they who do confess thy holy Name may agree in the truth of thy holy Word, and live in unity, and godly love. We beseech thee also to save and defend all Christian Kings, Princes, and Governors; and specially thy Servant ELIZABETH our Queen; that under her we may be godly and quietly governed: And grant unto her whole Council, and to all that are put in authority under her, that they may truly and impartially administer justice, to the punishment of wickedness and vice, and to the maintenance of thy true religion, and virtue. Then shall the Priest say to them that come to receive the Holy Communion, YE that do truly and earnestly repent you of your sins, and are in love and charity with your neighbours, and intend to lead a new life, following the commandments of God, and walking from henceforth in his holy ways; Draw near with faith, and take this holy Sacrament to your comfort; and make your humble confession to Almighty God. Then shall this general Confession be made. ALMIGHTY God, Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, Maker of all things, judge of all men; We acknowledge and bewail our manifold sins and wickedness, Which we, from time to time, most grievously have committed, By thought, word, and deed, Against thy Divine Majesty, Provoking most justly thy wrath and indignation against us. When the Priest, standing before the Table, hath so ordered the Bread and Wine, that he may with the more readiness and decency break the Bread before the people, and take the Cup into his hands, he shall say the Prayer of Consecration, as followeth. ALMIGHTY God, our heavenly Father, who of thy tender mercy didst give thine only Son Jesus Christ to suffer death upon the Cross for our redemption; who made there a full, perfect, and sufficient sacrifice, oblation, and satisfaction, for the sins of the whole world; and did institute, and in his holy Gospel command us to continue, a perpetual memory of that his precious death, until his coming again; Hear us, O merciful Father, we most humbly beseech thee; and grant that we receiving these thy creatures of bread and wine, according to thy Son our Saviour Jesus Christ's holy institution, in remembrance of his death and passion, may be partakers of his most blessed Body and Blood: who, in the same night that he was betrayed, (a) took Bread; and, when he had given thanks, (b) he brake it, and gave it to his disciples, saying, Take, eat, (c) this is my Body which is given for you: Do this in remembrance of me. Draw near with faith. Receive the body of our Lord Jesus Christ which he gave for you, and his blood which he shed for you. Eat and drink in remembrance that he died for you, and feed on him in your hearts by faith with thanksgiving.
BAPTISED CHRISTIANS WHO RECEIVE HOLY COMMUNION IN THEIR OWN CHURCH ARE INVITED TO SHARE COMMUNION WITH US. The consecrated wine may be received: a) from the common cup which is the tradition of the Anglican Church since the Reformation (as outlined in the Book of Common Prayer 1662) by drinking or intinction of the bread. b) from an individual glass upon request. Or you may choose to receive the bread only as Holy Communion in one kind. 14
Let us pray in the words that our Lord Jesus Christ has taught us: OUR Father, which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy Name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done, in earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, As we forgive them that trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation; But deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, The power, and the glory, For ever and ever. Amen. After shall be said by the Priest a prayer of thanksgiving. Then shall be said by all, standing, GLORY be to God on high, and in earth peace, good will towards men. We have a number of projects either underway, or which we would like to commence, with support from the Appeal: New electrical switchboard and LED lighting for the Church The existing switchboard is obsolete and poses a safety/fire risk. It is a priority that we replace it and we have a quotation process happening now. We can tie an upgrade to LED lights to the switchboard replacement. This will provide significant ongoing savings both in terms of electricity costs and maintenance around bulb replacement. The LED upgrade in particular is going to be disruptive, as we will need to scaffold areas in the Church and probably move pews. Refinishing the parquetry Given the likelihood that pews will need to be moved for the lighting works, we’d like to sand and reseal the parquetry at the same time. Painting The Church interior is well overdue a paint. This will include treatment of various walls for rising/falling damp as well as refinishing. We have a reasonable balance in the Appeal at the moment, but not enough to undertake all of the above. All donations of any size will be much appreciated as we undertake these very necessary tasks. Appeal Donation forms can be found at the back of the Church. Prayer Requests: all names for prayer in the pew sheet require permission from the persons being prayed for in the first instance.

Church Directory: We are putting together a Church Directory to enable easier contact between parishioners and it will only be made available to parishioners. It is up to each individual/family as to which of their contact details they wish to have included in the Directory, and there is no obligation whatsoever to be in the Directory. If you would like to be included, please take a form from the entrance of the Church, complete, sign and date it and either place it in the box provided or leave it in the Church office. The forms will be available until the 26th June and a Directory will be produced soon after that.
