Dear Parishioners, I commend to you: Christ's love goes further than anything previous, by Cyril of Alexandria (376-444 AD). "He plainly indicates the novelty involved in his command here - and the extent to which the love he enjoins here surpasses the old idea of mutual love (Deuteronomy 6:5) - by adding the words 'Even as I have loved you, you also should love one another.' ... The law of Moses mandated the necessity of loving our brothers as ourselves, yet our Lord Jesus the Christ loved us far more than he loved himself. Otherwise, he would have never descended to our humiliation from his original exaltation in the form of God and on an equality with God the Father, nor would he have undergone for our sakes the exceptional bitterness of his death in the ďŹ‚esh, nor have submitted to beatings from the Jews, to shame, to derision, and all his other sufferings too numerous to mention. Being rich, he would never have become poor if he had not loved us far more than he loved himself. It was indeed something new for love to go as far as that! Christ commands us to love as he did, putting neither reputation, wealth or anything else before love of our brothers and sisters. If need be, we even need to be prepared to face death for our neighbourâ€™s salvation as our Saviour's blessed disciples did, as well as those who followed in their footsteps. To them the salvation of others mattered more than their own lives, and they were ready to do anything or to suffer anything to save souls that were perishing." 1. There's a wideness in God's mercy like the wideness of the sea, and forgiveness in his justice sealed for us on Calvary. 2. There is plentiful redemption in the blood that has been shed; there is joy for all the members in the sorrows of the Head.

The Nicene Creed Let us together affirm the faith of the Church. We believe in one God, the Father, the almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all that is, seen and unseen. We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ, the only Son of God, eternally begotten of the Father, God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, of one Being with the Father; through him all things were made. For us and for our salvation he came down from heaven, was incarnate of the Holy Spirit and the virgin Mary and became truly human. For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate; he suffered death and was buried. On the third day he rose again in accordance with the Scriptures; he ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead, and his kingdom will have no end. We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son, who with the Father and the Son is worshipped and glorified, who has spoken through the prophets. We believe in one holy catholic and apostolic Church. We acknowledge one baptism for the forgiveness of sins. We look for the resurrection of the dead, and the life of the world to come. Amen.

Come let us take this holy sacrament of the body and blood of Christ in remembrance that he died for us, and feed on him in our hearts by faith with thanksgiving. The Choir sings: "Ave Verum Corpusâ€?, Mozart. Baptised Christians who receive Holy Communion in their own church are invited to share communion with us. The consecrated wine may be received: a) from the common cup which is the tradition of the Anglican Church since the Reformation (as outlined in the Book of Common Prayer 1662) by drinking or intinction of the bread. b) from an individual glass upon request. Or you may choose to receive the bread only as Holy Communion in one kind.

Dear Parishioners, Later in the year- late July we will be embarking on a winter study over 5 weeks written by Canon Graeme Winterton entitled “Is It right? which Way which Truth”. Before then there will be an offering of a five week study called New World Old Faith beginning late April early May. This will be one study group led by Leonie Bird and will meet in the evening during the week. If you would like to be a part of this preliminary study- please fill your name in on the form at the back of the church. This group will be limited to twelve peoplesome details of this study below. Much of the criticism directed at Christianity in our day and age is that it's outdated, old hat. New World, Old Faith takes the position that just because Christianity is based on events of two thousand years ago doesn't mean it is irrelevant today. Quite the contrary - in our multi-everything world it's more relevant than ever! Contributors/writers include: Archbishop Rowan Williams, David Coffey, Joel Edwards and the Revd Dr John Polkinghorne. Dr David Hope introduces the course and Dr Pauline Webb provides the Closing Reflections. Vicar YORK COURSES MAY 2016 - NEW WORLD – OLD FAITH A five session course which explores the place of the Christian faith in relation to some of the crucial issues in today’s world. 5 Sessions: 1.
