Hymn: TiS 61

1. Sing, all creation, sing to God in gladness, joyously serve him, singing hymns of homage, chanting his praises, come before his presence: Praise the Almighty! 2. Know that our God is Lord of all the ages; he is our maker: we are all his creatures, people he fashioned, sheep he leads to pasture: Praise the Almighty! 3. Enter his temple, ringing out his praises; sing in thanksgiving as you come before him; blessing his bounty, glorify his greatness: Praise the Almighty! 4. Great in his goodness is the Lord we worship; steadfast his kindness, love that knows no ending; faithful his word is, changeless, everlasting: Praise the Almighty! James Quinn 1919– Words by permission Cassell plc, London

Invocation:

Blessed be God: Father, Son and Holy Spirit. Blessed be God's kingdom, now and for ever.

Greeting:

The Lord be with you. AND ALSO WITH YOU.

(see Ruth 2:4)

Sentence: The Lord is near to all who call on him in truth. He fulfils the desire of all that fear him, hears their cry, and saves them. Psalm 145.18–19

Prayer of Preparation: Let us pray together: Almighty God, to whom all hearts are open, all desires known, and from whom no secrets are hidden: cleanse the thoughts of our hearts by the inspiration of your Holy Spirit, that we may perfectly love you, and worthily magnify your holy name, through Christ our Lord. Amen.

The Summary of the Commandments: ‘Hear, O Israel, the Lord our God, the Lord is one; you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind, and with all your strength.’ Jesus said: ‘This is the great and first commandment. And a second is like it: you shall love your neighbour as yourself.’ Kyrie eleison (How Setting)

The Confession Let us confess our sins in penitence and faith, confident in God's forgiveness. Merciful God, our maker and our judge, we have sinned against you in thought, word, and deed, and in what we have failed to do: we have not loved you with our whole heart; we have not loved our neighbours as ourselves; we repent, and are sorry for all our sins. Father, forgive us. Strengthen us to love and obey you in newness of life; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen

The Absolution {Celebrant} Almighty God, who has promised forgiveness to all who turn to him in faith: pardon you and set you free from all your sins, strengthen you in all goodness and keep you in eternal life, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Prayer of the Day O God, giver of life and health, whose Son Jesus Christ has called us to hunger and thirst for justice: refresh us with your grace, that we may not be weary in well-doing, for the sake of him who meets all our needs, Jesus Christ our Saviour; who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen.

THE MINISTRY OF THE WORD

First Reading: Romans 9.1-5 1

I am speaking the truth in Christ—I am not lying; my conscience confirms it by the Holy Spirit— 2 I have great sorrow and unceasing anguish in my heart. 3 For I could wish that I myself were accursed and cut off from Christ for the sake of my own people, my kindred according to the flesh. 4 They are Israelites, and to them belong the adoption, the glory, the covenants, the giving of the law, the worship, and the promises; 5 to them belong the patriarchs, and from them, according to the flesh, comes the Messiah, who is over all, God blessed for ever. Amen. Response: Hear the word of the Lord, THANKS BE TO GOD

7

Psalm: 17 The response is sung first by the choir and then by the congregation. Thereafter it is sung by the congregation after each verse. The verses are sung by the choir. Response: (all)

Verses 1. Lord, hear a cause that is just, pay heed to my cry. Turn your ear to my prayer: no deceit is on my lips. Response 2. I kept my feet firmly in your paths, there was no faltering in my steps. I am here and I call; you will hear me, O God. Turn your ear to me; hear my words. Response 3. Guard me as the apple of your eye. Hide me in the shadow of your wings. As for me, in my justice I shall see your face and be filled, when I awake, with the sight of your glory. Response Version by The Grail (1983) Words by permission A. P. Watt, London Music Š R. Bonighton

WE STAND FOR THE READING OF THE HOLY GOSPEL AS A SIGN OF RESPECT AS WE GREET OUR LORD WHO IS PRESENT IN HIS HOLY WORD. The Lord be with you AND ALSO WITH YOU The gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ, according to Saint Matthew chapter 14 beginning at the 13thverse. GLORY TO YOU, LORD JESUS CHRIST. 13

Now when Jesus heard this, he withdrew from there in a boat to a deserted place by himself. But when the crowds heard it, they followed him on foot from the towns. 14 When he went ashore, he saw a great crowd; and he had compassion for them and cured their sick. 15 When it was evening, the disciples came to him and said, ‘This is a deserted place, and the hour is now late; send the crowds away so that they may go into the villages and buy food for themselves.’ 16 Jesus said to them, ‘They need not go away; you give them something to eat.’ 17 They replied, ‘We have nothing here but five loaves and two fish.’ 18 And he said, ‘Bring them here to me.’ 19 Then he ordered the crowds to sit down on the grass. Taking the five loaves and the two fish, he looked up to heaven, and blessed and broke the loaves, and gave them to the disciples, and the disciples gave them to the crowds. 20 And all ate and were filled; and they took up what was left over of the broken pieces, twelve baskets full. 21 And those who ate were about five thousand men, besides women and children. Gospel Response: This is the gospel of the Lord, PRAISE TO YOU, LORD JESUS CHRIST. Alleluia Sung by all

Offertory Hymn: TiS 217 1. Love divine, all loves excelling, joy of heaven, to earth come down, fix in us thy humble dwelling, all thy faithful mercies crown: Jesus, thou art all compassion, pure unbounded love thou art; visit us with thy salvation, enter every trembling heart. 2. Come, almighty to deliver, let us all thy life receive; suddenly return, and never, never more thy temples leave: thee we would be always blessing, serve thee as thy hosts above, pray, and praise thee, without ceasing, glory in thy perfect love. 3. Finish then thy new creation, pure and spotless let us be, let us see thy great salvation, perfectly restored in thee: changed from glory into glory, till in heaven we take our place, till we cast our crowns before thee, lost in wonder, love and praise. Final Hymn: TiS 620

1. O Jesus Christ, may grateful hymns be rising in every city for your love and care; inspire our worship, grant the glad surprising that your blest Spirit rouses everywhere. 2. Grant us new courage, sacrificial, humble, strong in your strength to venture and to dare, to lift the fallen, guide the feet that stumble, seek out the lonely and God’s mercy share. 3. Show us your Spirit, brooding o’er each city, as once you wept above Jerusalem, seeking to gather all in love and pity, and healing those who touch your garment’s hem. FAMILY MINISTRY AT HOLY TRINITY – WILL YOU HELP? The Wardens intend that the current Family Ministry programmes for children continue and wish to build on the great work done by Ros St Flour in her ministry over the past few years. We are seeking people who are interested in participating in the Sunday School, the twice weekly Playgroups and the CRE/SRI programme at Kew Primary School. We ask parishioners to seriously consider if they or people they know can support these ministry activities now and into the future. This is an important ministry area that should be supported by Holy Trinity; are you willing to help the parish continue these programmes? Talk to Barbara Thomson, David Harkin or Robert Frood as soon as possible.
