Sentence: God has reconciled us to himself through Christ, and given us the ministry of reconciliation. 2 Corinthians 5.18 Prayer of Preparation: As we gather as God's people let us pray together: Almighty God, to whom all hearts are open, all desires known, and from whom no secrets are hidden: cleanse the thoughts of our hearts by the inspiration of your Holy Spirit, that we may perfectly love you, and worthily magnify your holy name, through Christ our Lord. Amen. The minister reads aloud the commandments. Hear the commandments which God gave his people Israel. 1 I am the Lord your God who brought you out of the land of slavery; you shall have no other gods but me. 2 You shall not make for yourself a graven image, or any likeness of anything that is in heaven above, or that is on the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth; you shall not bow down to them or serve them. 3 You shall not take the name of the Lord your God in vain. 4 Remember the sabbath day to keep it holy. Prayer of the Day God of compassion, you are slow to anger, and full of mercy, welcoming sinners who return to you with penitent hearts: receive in your loving embrace all who come home to you, and seat them at your bountiful table, that, with all your children, they may feast with delight on all that satisfies the hungry heart. We ask this in the name of Jesus Christ our Saviour, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.

THE MINISTRY OF THE WORD Readings from 'New Revised Standard Version' (NRSV) First Reading: Joshua 5.2-12 2 At that time the LORD said to Joshua, ‘Make flint knives and circumcise the Israelites a second time.’ 3So Joshua made flint knives, and circumcised the Israelites at Gibeath-haaraloth. 4This is the reason why Joshua circumcised them: all the males of the people who came out of Egypt, all the warriors, had died during the journey through the wilderness after they had come out of Egypt. 5Although all the people who came out had been circumcised, yet all the people born on the journey through the wilderness after they had come out of Egypt had not been circumcised. 6For the Israelites travelled for forty years in the wilderness, until all the nation, the warriors who came out of Egypt, perished, not having listened to the voice of the LORD. To them the LORD swore that he would not let them see the land that he had sworn to their ancestors to give us, a land flowing with milk and honey. 7So it was their children, whom he raised up in their place, that Joshua circumcised; for they were uncircumcised, because they had not been circumcised on the way. 8 When the circumcising of all the nation was done, they remained in their places in the camp until they were healed. 9The LORD said to Joshua, ‘Today I have rolled away from you the disgrace of Egypt.’ And so that place is called Gilgal to this day. 10 While the Israelites were encamped in Gilgal they kept the passover in the evening on the fourteenth day of the month in the plains of Jericho. 11On the day after the passover, on that very day, they ate the produce of the land, unleavened cakes and parched grain. 12The manna ceased on the day they ate the produce of the land, and the Israelites no longer had manna; they ate the crops of the land of Canaan that year.

Psalm 32.1-12 1 Blessed are those whose sin is forgiven: whose iniquity is put away. 2 Blessed are those to whom the Lord imputes no blame: and in whose spirit there is no guile. 3 For whilst I held my tongue: my bones wasted away with my daily complaining. 4 Your hand was heavy upon me day and night: and my moisture was dried up like a drought in summer. 5 Then I acknowledged my sin to you: and my iniquity I did not hide; 6 I said ‘I will confess my transgressions to the Lord’: and so you forgave the wickedness of my sin. 7 For this cause shall everyone that is faithful make their prayer to you in the day of trouble: and in the time of the great water-flood, it shall not come near them. 8 You are a place to hide me in, you will preserve me from trouble: you will surround me with deliverance on every side. 9 ‘I will instruct you, and direct you in the way that you should go: I will fasten my eye upon you, and give you counsel. 10 ‘Be not like horse or mule, that have no understanding: whose forward course must be curbed with bit and bridle.’ 11 Great tribulations remain for the ungodly: but whoever puts their trust in the Lord, mercy embraces them on every side. 12 Rejoice in the Lord, you righteous, and be glad: and shout for joy, all you that are true of heart. Second Reading: 2 Corinthians 5.16-21 16 From now on, therefore, we regard no one from a human point of view; even though we once knew Christ from a human point of view, we know him no longer in that way. 17So if anyone is in Christ, there is a new creation: everything old has passed away; see, everything has become new! 18All this is from God, who reconciled us to himself through Christ, and has given us the ministry of reconciliation; 19that is, in Christ God was reconciling the world to himself, not counting their trespasses against them, and entrusting the message of reconciliation to us. 20So we are ambassadors for Christ, since God 5
is making his appeal through us; we entreat you on behalf of Christ, be reconciled to God. 21For our sake he made him to be sin who knew no sin, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God. Response: Hear the word of the Lord, THANKS BE TO GOD

The Lord be with you AND ALSO WITH YOU The gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ, according to Saint Luke chapter 15 beginning at the 11th verse. GLORY TO YOU, LORD JESUS CHRIST. 11 Then Jesus said, ‘There was a man who had two sons. 12The younger of them said to his father, “Father, give me the share of the property that will belong to me.” So he divided his property between them. 13A few days later the younger son gathered all he had and travelled to a distant country, and there he squandered his property in dissolute living. 14When he had spent everything, a severe famine took place throughout that country, and he began to be in need. 15So he went and hired himself out to one of the citizens of that country, who sent him to his fields to feed the pigs. 16He would gladly have filled himself with the pods that the pigs were eating; and no one gave him anything.17But when he came to himself he said, “How many of my father’s hired hands have bread enough and to spare, but here I am dying of hunger!18I will get up and go to my father, and I will say to him, ‘Father, I have sinned against heaven and before you; 19I am no longer worthy to be called your son; treat me like one of your hired hands.’ ” 20So he set off and went to his father. But while he was still far off, his father saw him and was filled with compassion; he ran and put his arms around him and kissed him. 21Then the son said to him, “Father, I have sinned against heaven and before you; I am no longer worthy to be called your son.” 22But the father said to his slaves, “Quickly, bring out a robe—the best one—and put it on him; put a ring on his 6
finger and sandals on his feet. 23And get the fatted calf and kill it, and let us eat and celebrate; 24for this son of mine was dead and is alive again; he was lost and is found!” And they began to celebrate. 25 ‘Now his elder son was in the field; and when he came and approached the house, he heard music and dancing. 26He called one of the slaves and asked what was going on. 27He replied, “Your brother has come, and your father has killed the fatted calf, because he has got him back safe and sound.” 28Then he became angry and refused to go in. His father came out and began to plead with him. 29But he answered his father, “Listen! For all these years I have been working like a slave for you, and I have never disobeyed your command; yet you have never given me even a young goat so that I might celebrate with my friends.30But when this son of yours came back, who has devoured your property with prostitutes, you killed the fatted calf for him!” 31Then the father said to him, “Son, you are always with me, and all that is mine is yours. 32But we had to celebrate and rejoice, because this brother of yours was dead and has come to life; he was lost and has been found.” Gospel Response: This is the gospel of the Lord, PRAISE TO YOU, LORD JESUS CHRIST.

The Nicene Creed Let us together affirm the faith of the Church. We believe in one God, the Father, the almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all that is, seen and unseen. We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ, the only Son of God, eternally begotten of the Father, God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, of one Being with the Father; through him all things were made. For us and for our salvation he came down from heaven, was incarnate of the Holy Spirit and the virgin Mary and became truly human. For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate; he suffered death and was buried. On the third day he rose again in accordance with the Scriptures; he ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead, and his kingdom will have no end. We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son, who with the Father and the Son is worshipped and glorified, who has spoken through the prophets. We believe in one holy catholic and apostolic Church. We acknowledge one baptism for the forgiveness of sins. We look for the resurrection of the dead, and the life of the world to come. Amen. 8

We pray for all who are working on the building project and for its successful completion; and our Bishops Philip and Barbara. We pray for those in need, and for those who care for them: Doreen A-B, Archdeacon Greg A, Babe I, Brian H, John D, James L, Tom F, Michael H, Philip C, Margaret D, Brenda, John M, Jean I, Beatrice S, Liz A, Judy S, Miriam A, Robert D, Mia C, Jan T, Peter Hs and those we remember in our own hearts and prayers. We pray for the members of Holy Trinity not able to worship with us, Jean S, Ren C, Nancy K, Hilary, Joyce L, Elisabeth D, Lorna M, Jean D, and all who care for them. We give thanks for the life of Lily Chan as we uphold her to your loving mercy, and we pray for all who mourn her death. We remember before God with thanksgiving the life of Kevin Foley (1994) as we come to the anniversary of his entry into your nearer presence. Almighty God, you have promised to hear our prayers. Grant that what we have asked in faith We may by your grace receive, Through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Jesus said: A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another, even as I have loved you. John 13.34 [Let us pray] We do not presume to come to your table, merciful Lord, trusting in our own righteousness, but in your manifold and great mercies. We are not worthy so much as to gather up the crumbs under your table. But you are the same Lord whose nature is always to have mercy. Grant us, therefore, gracious Lord, so to eat the flesh of your dear Son Jesus Christ, and to drink his blood, that we may evermore dwell in him, and he in us. Amen. The Confession Let us confess our sins in penitence and faith, confident in God's forgiveness. Merciful God, our maker and our judge, we have sinned against you in thought, word, and deed, and in what we have failed to do: we have not loved you with our whole heart; we have not loved our neighbours as ourselves; we repent, and are sorry for all our sins. Father, forgive us. Strengthen us to love and obey you in newness of life; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Come let us take this holy sacrament of the body and blood of Christ in remembrance that he died for us, and feed on him in our hearts by faith with thanksgiving. Baptised Christians who receive communion in their own church are invited to share communion with us.
Communion wine may be received: (a) from the common cup from (drink or intinction) (b) from an individual glass on request from the first Eucharistic Assistant. Or you may choose to receive the wafer only (Communion in one kind).
THE SENDING OUT OF GOD'S PEOPLE Post Communion Prayer Prayer of self-offering Father, we offer ourselves to you as a living sacrifice through Jesus Christ our Lord. Send us out in the power of your Spirit to live and work to your praise and glory. AMEN

Anglican Overseas Aid: (formerly AngliCord) in the 2nd half of 2012 assisted countries in Africa, the Asia Pacific and the Middle East. Programs expenditure was just over $692,000, with the majority being used in Africa. Lenten study groups: will commence on 20th February at 1.30pm and 7.30pm. These will run for 5 weeks and meet in the vicarage. You are welcome to attend individual sessions if you are not available for them all. Tax Deductible Donations to Holy Trinity can be made for the 'Building Appeal' through the National Trust, OR for 'Family Ministry' through the Anglican Foundation.
