Second Reading: 1 Corinthians 1:18-25 For the message about the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God. 19 For it is written, "I will destroy the wisdom of the wise, and the discernment of the discerning I will thwart." 20 Where is the one who is wise? Where is the scribe? Where is the debater of this age? Has not God made foolish the wisdom of the world? 21 For since, in the wisdom of God, the world did not know God through wisdom, God decided, through the foolishness of our proclamation, to save those who believe. 22 For Jews demand signs and Greeks desire wisdom, 23 but we proclaim Christ crucified, a stumbling block to Jews and foolishness to Gentiles, 24 but to those who are the called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God and the wisdom of God. 25 For God's foolishness is wiser than human wisdom, and God's weakness is stronger than human strength. We stand for the reading of the Holy Gospel as a sign of respect as we greet our Lord who is present in His Holy Word. The Lord be with you AND ALSO WITH YOU The gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ, according to Saint John chapter 2 beginning at the 13th verse. GLORY TO YOU, LORD JESUS CHRIST. The Passover of the Jews was near, and Jesus went up to Jerusalem. In the temple he found people selling cattle, sheep, and doves, and the money changers seated at their tables. 15 Making a whip of cords, he drove all of them out of the temple, both the sheep and the cattle. He also poured out the coins of the money changers and overturned their tables. 16 He told those who were selling the doves, "Take these things out of here! Stop making my Father's house a marketplace!" 17 His disciples remembered that it was written, "Zeal for your house will consume me." 18 The Jews then said to him, "What sign can you show us for doing this?" 19 Jesus answered them, "Destroy this temple, and in three days I will raise it up." 20 The Jews then said, "This temple has been under construction for forty-six years, and will you raise it up in three days?" 21 But he was speaking of the temple of his body. 22 After he was raised from the dead, his disciples remembered that he had said this; and they believed the scripture and the word that Jesus had spoken. 14

The Nicene Creed Let us together affirm the faith of the Church. We believe in one God, the Father, the almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all that is, seen and unseen. We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ, the only Son of God, eternally begotten of the Father, God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, of one Being with the Father; through him all things were made. For us and for our salvation he came down from heaven, was incarnate of the Holy Spirit and the virgin Mary and became truly human. For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate; he suffered death and was buried. On the third day he rose again in accordance with the Scriptures; he ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead, and his kingdom will have no end. The choir sings the Agnus Dei Come let us take this holy sacrament of the body and blood of Christ in remembrance that he died for us, and feed on him in our hearts by faith with thanksgiving. Baptised Christians who receive communion in their own church are invited to share communion with us. Communion wine may be received: (a) from the common cup from the first of the two Eucharistic Assistants. (b) by intinction from the second of the Eucharistic Assistants where a small part of the wafer is carefully dipped in the wine, or (c) from an individual glass on request from the first Eucharistic Assistant. The Noon Hour: For several years we have been opening the church on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday 12-00--1.00. Most days someone calls in to pray or admire the Windows ,enquire about a wedding or just enjoy our beautiful church. A small number of parishioners open the church to enable this to happen, if you think this might be something you might like to be involved in then please speak to the vicar or Carol Fraser 9857-3412. Stewardship: New sets of envelopes are now available for those who provide regular financial support for the parish in this way. We thank them for their support. To others who also regularly contribute by direct deposit, through the Anglican Development Fund (ADF) or in any other way, we also offer our thanks. If you would like more information about ways to financially support Holy Trinity, please talk to Roy or one of the wardens. World day of Prayer: The annual service was held at the Melbourne Chinese Baptist Church (Cotham Rd) recently, It was a moving service prepared by women of the Malaysian Christian churches. Joan Brooking has stepped down as the parish representative on the local organizing committee after many decades of faithful service, and we thank her for much for her contribution. I am pleased to advise you that Liz Cook has now accepted this role (after previously serving on the state committee) , so thank you also to Liz. Mothers Union: 25 attended the Wednesday morning service this week and witnessed the admission of Julie Burke, Marilyn Frood, Ros St Flour and Barbara Thomson as new members of Mothers Union and Irene Shorthouse (admitted in the UK) was also welcomed to the Holy Trinity branch. They join the existing 9 members of Holy Trinity Mothers Union. It was a very positive and cheerful event.
