Sentence: God spoke of old by the prophets; but in these last days he has spoken to us by a Son. Hebrews 1.1-2 2
Prayer of Preparation: As we gather as God's people let us pray together: Almighty God, to whom all hearts are open, all desires known, and from whom no secrets are hidden: cleanse the thoughts of our hearts by the inspiration of your Holy Spirit, that we may perfectly love you, and worthily magnify your holy name, through Christ our Lord. Amen.
The Summary of the Commandments: ‘Hear, O Israel, the Lord our God, the Lord is one; you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind, and with all your strength.’ Jesus said: ‘This is the great and first commandment. And a second is like it: you shall love your neighbour as yourself.’ Kyrie eleison

The Confession Christ the grace of God has dawned upon the world with healing for all. Let us bring our weaknesses and infirmities to him, confessing our sins in penitence and faith.
Merciful God, our maker and our judge, we have sinned against you in thought, word, and deed, and in what we have failed to do: we have not loved you with our whole heart; we have not loved our neighbours as ourselves; we repent, and are sorry for all our sins. Father, forgive us. Strengthen us to love and obey you in newness of life; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
The Absolution
(Celebrant)
Almighty God, who has promised forgiveness to all who turn to him in faith: pardon you and set you free from all your sins, strengthen you in all goodness and keep you in eternal life, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Prayer of the Day God our Father, you gave to your incarnate Son the name of Jesus to be a sign of our salvation: may every tongue confess that he, who for our sake became obedient to the law, is both Lord and Christ, to your eternal glory; for he now lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.
THE MINISTRY OF THE WORD Readings from 'New Revised Standard Version' (NRSV) First Reading: Numbers 6:22-27 22 The Lord spoke to Moses, saying: 23 Speak to Aaron and his sons, saying, Thus you shall bless the Israelites: You shall say to them, 24 The Lord bless you and keep you; 25 the Lord make his face to shine upon you, and be gracious to you; 26 the Lord lift up his countenance upon you, and give you peace. 27 So they shall put my name on the Israelites, and I will bless them. Response:
Hear the word of the Lord, THANKS BE TO GOD

Psalm 8:1-10 1 O Lord our Governor: how glorious is your name in all the earth! 2 Your majesty above the heavens is yet recounted: by the mouths of babes and sucklings. 3 You have founded a strong defence against your adversaries: to quell the enemy and the avenger. 4 When I consider your heavens, the work of your fingers: the moon and the stars which you have set in order, 5 What are we, that you should be mindful of us: what are we, that you should care for us? 6 Yet you have made us little less than gods: and have crowned us with glory and honour. 7 You have given us dominion over your handiwork: and have put all things in subjection beneath our feet, 8 All sheep and oxen: and all the creatures of the field, 9 The birds of the air and the fish of the sea: and everything that moves in the pathways of the great waters. 10 O Lord our Governor: how glorious is your name in all the earth!
Second Reading: Galatians 4:4-7 4 But when the fullness of time had come, God sent his Son, born of a woman, born under the law, 5 in order to redeem those who were under the law, so that we might receive adoption as children. 6 And because you are children, God has sent the Spirit of his Son into our hearts, crying, "Abba! Father!" 7 So you are no longer a slave but a child, and if a child then also an heir, through God. Response: Hear the word of the Lord, THANKS BE TO GOD 7
Gradual Hymn: TiS 115
1. Behold the amazing gift of love the Father has bestowed, that we, though sinners, should be called the children of our God.
4. Our souls, we know, when he appears, shall bear his image bright; for all his glory, full disclosed, shall open to our sight.
2. Concealed as yet this honour lies, by this dark world unknown, a world that knew not when he came, ev’n God’s eternal Son.
5. A hope so great, and so divine, may trials well endure; and purge the soul from guilt and sin, as Christ himself is pure.
3. High is the rank we now possess, but higher we shall rise; though what we shall hereafter be is hid from mortal eyes.

We stand for the reading of the Holy Gospel as a sign of respect as we greet our Lord who is present in His Holy Word. The Lord be with you AND ALSO WITH YOU The gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ, according to Saint Luke chapter 2 beginning at the 15th verse. GLORY TO YOU, LORD JESUS CHRIST.
15 When the angels had left them and gone into heaven, the shepherds said to one another, "Let us go now to Bethlehem and see this thing that has taken place, which the Lord has made known to us." 16 So they went with haste and found Mary and Joseph, and the child lying in the manger. 17 When they saw this, they made known what had been told them about this child; 18 and all who heard it were amazed at what the shepherds told them. 19 But Mary treasured all these words and pondered them in her heart. 20 The shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all they had heard and seen, as it had been told them. 21 After eight days had passed, it was time to circumcise the child; and he was called Jesus, the name given by the angel before he was conceived in the womb. Gospel Response: This is the gospel of the Lord, PRAISE TO YOU, LORD JESUS CHRIST.

The Nicene Creed Let us together affirm the faith of the Church. We believe in one God, the Father, the almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all that is, seen and unseen. We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ, the only Son of God, eternally begotten of the Father, God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, of one Being with the Father; through him all things were made. For us and for our salvation he came down from heaven, was incarnate of the Holy Spirit and the virgin Mary and became truly human. For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate; he suffered death and was buried. On the third day he rose again in accordance with the Scriptures; he ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead, and his kingdom will have no end. We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son, who with the Father and the Son is worshipped and glorified, who has spoken through the prophets. We believe in one holy catholic and apostolic Church. We acknowledge one baptism for the forgiveness of sins. We look for the resurrection of the dead, and the life of the world to come. Amen.

THE GREETING OF PEACE
(all stand)
{Celebrant} We are the body of Christ. His Spirit is with us. The peace of the Lord be always with you. And also with you.
[A greeting of peace is exchanged with those around us]
Offertory Hymn: TiS 306
1. Christians, awake, salute the happy morn whereon the Saviour of the world was born; rise to adore the mystery of love, which hosts of angels chanted from above; with them the joyful tidings first begun of God incarnate and the Virgin’s son.
12
2. Then to the watchful shepherds it was told, who heard th’angelic herald’s voice, ‘Behold, I bring good tidings of a Saviour’s birth to you and all the nations on the earth; this day has God fulfilled his promised word, this day is born a Saviour, Christ the Lord.’ 3. He spoke; and straightway the celestial choir in hymns of joy, unknown before, conspire. The praises of redeeming love they sang, and heaven’s whole orb with hallelujahs rang: God’s highest glory was their anthem still, peace upon earth to people of good-will. 4. To Bethle’m straight the enlightened shepherds ran to see the wonder of our God made man, and found, with Joseph and the blessèd Maid, her son, the Saviour, in a manger laid; amazed, the wondrous story they proclaim, the first apostles of his infant fame. 5. Like Mary, let us ponder in our mind God’s wondrous love in saving humankind; trace we the Babe, who has retrieved our loss, from the poor manger to the bitter cross; tread in his steps, assisted by his grace, until in heav’n God’s people take their place. 6. There may we hope, th’angelic thrones among, to sing, redeemed, a glad triumphal song: he that was born upon this joyful day around us all his glory shall display; saved by his love, unceasing we shall sing eternal praise to heaven’s almighty King.
13
Offertory Prayer: Blessed are you, Lord, God of all creation. Through your goodness we have these gifts to share. Accept and use our offerings for your glory and for the service of your kingdom. BLESSED BE GOD FOR EVER.

Final Hymn: TiS 290
18
3. This is he whom seers and sages sang of old with one accord, whom the voices of the prophets promised in their faithful word; now he shines, the longexpected: let creation praise its Lord evermore and evermore.
1. Of the Father’s love begotten ere the worlds began to be, he is Alpha and Omega, he the source, the ending he, of the things that are, that have been, and that future years shall see evermore and evermore. 2. O that birth for ever blessèd when the virgin, full of grace, by the Spirit’s power conceiving bore the saviour of our race, and the babe, the world’s redeemer, first revealed his sacred face, evermore and evermore.
4. In the heights of heaven adore him, angel hosts his praises sing, all dominions bow before him and extol our God and king; let no tongue on earth be silent, every voice together sing evermore and evermore.
