Hymn: TiS 108

1. You holy angels bright, who wait at God’s right hand, or through the realms of light fly at your Lord’s command, assist our song, or else the theme too high will seem for mortal tongue.

4. All nations of the earth, extol the world’s great King: with melody and mirth God’s glorious praises sing. In him rejoice, and there proclaim his holy name with sounding voice.

2. You blessèd souls at rest, who ran this earthly race, and now, from sin released, behold the Saviour’s face, his praises sound, as in his sight you now delight to see him crowned.

5. My soul, take now your part: triumph in God above, and with a well-tuned heart sing out the songs of love; and all my days let no distress not fears suppress his joyful praise.

3. You saints who toil below, adore your heavenly King, and onward as you go some joyful anthem sing; take what he gives and praise him still through good and ill, who ever lives. 2

Greeting: The Lord be with you. AND ALSO WITH YOU. (see Ruth 2:4) Sentence: Watch and be ready, for you do not know on what day your Lord is coming. Matthew 24.42, 44

Prayer of Preparation: As we gather as God's people let us pray together: God of love and peace, you know what we think and feel. Touch our hearts that our thoughts and actions may be good so that we may love you and honour you, through Jesus Christ our Lord, AMEN. The Summary of the Commandments: ‘Hear, O Israel, the Lord our God, the Lord is one; you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind, and with all your strength.’ Jesus said: ‘This is the great and first commandment. And a second is like it: you shall love your neighbour as yourself.’ Kyrie eleison

The Confession Let us confess our sins in penitence and faith, confident in God's forgiveness. God of mercy and grace, we have sometimes thought wrong things, and done wrong things and we have not always loved each other as we should. We are sorry. Forgive us and help us to love and obey you , through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

The Absolution

{Celebrant}

Almighty God, who has promised forgiveness to all who turn to him in faith: pardon you and set you free from all your sins, strengthen you in all goodness and keep you in eternal life, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Prayer of the Day Eternal God, you have taught us that the night is far spent and the day is at hand: keep us awake and alert, watching for your kingdom, so that when Christ, the bridegroom, comes we may go out joyfully to meet him, and with him enter into the marriage feast that you have prepared for all who truly love you; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen.

THE MINISTRY OF THE WORD Readings from 'New Revised Standard Version' (NRSV)

First Reading: 1 John 3:1-3 3:1 See what love the Father has given us, that we should be called children of God; and that is what we are. The reason the world does not know us is that it did not know him. 2 Beloved, we are God's children now; what we will be has not yet been revealed. What we do know is this: when he is revealed, we will be like him, for we will see him as he is. 3 And all who have this hope in him purify themselves, just as he is pure. Response: Hear the word of the Lord, THANKS BE TO GOD

6

Psalm: 34:1-6 1 I will bless the Lord continually: his praise shall be always in my mouth. 2 Let my soul boast of the Lord: the humble shall hear it and rejoice. 3 O praise the Lord with me: let us exalt his name together. 4 For I sought the Lord's help and he answered: and he freed me from all my fears. 5 Look towards him and be bright with joy: your faces shall not be ashamed. 6 Here is a wretch who cried, and the Lord heard me: and saved me from all my troubles.

7

Gradual Hymn: TiS 448

1. Blest are the pure in heart, for they shall see our God; the secret of the Lord is theirs, their soul is Christ’s abode. 2. The Lord who left the heavens our life and peace to bring, to dwell with us in lowliness, our pattern and our King: 3. still to the lowly soul he will himself impart, and for his cradle and his throne chooses the pure in heart. 4.

Lord, we your presence seek; this blessing now renew: give us a pure and lowly heart, a temple fit for you.

WE STAND FOR THE READING OF THE HOLY GOSPEL AS A SIGN OF RESPECT AS WE GREET OUR LORD WHO IS PRESENT IN HIS HOLY WORD. The Lord be with you AND ALSO WITH YOU The gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ, according to Saint Matthew chapter 25 beginning at the 1st verse. GLORY TO YOU, LORD JESUS CHRIST. 25:1 "Then the kingdom of heaven will be like this. Ten bridesmaids took their lamps and went to meet the bridegroom. 2 Five of them were foolish, and five were wise. 3 When the foolish took their lamps, they took no oil with them; 4 but the wise took flasks of oil with their lamps. 5 As the bridegroom was delayed, all of them became drowsy and slept. 6 But at midnight there was a shout, 'Look! Here is the bridegroom! Come out to meet him.' 7 Then all those bridesmaids got up and trimmed their lamps. 8 The foolish said to the wise, 'Give us some of your oil, for our lamps are going out.' 9 But the wise replied, 'No! there will not be enough for you and for us; you had better go to the dealers and buy some for yourselves.' 10 And while they went to buy it, the bridegroom came, and those who were ready went with him into the wedding banquet; and the door was shut. 11 Later the other bridesmaids came also, saying, 'Lord, lord, open to us.' 12 But he replied, 'Truly I tell you, I do not know you.' 13 Keep awake therefore, for you know neither the day nor the hour. Gospel Response:

Alleluia

This is the gospel of the Lord PRAISE TO YOU, LORD JESUS CHRIST.

Offertory Hymn: TiS 456 1. Your hand, O God, has guided your flock from age to age; the wondrous tale is written, full clear, on every page; your people owned your goodness, and we their deeds record; and both of this bear witness: one church, one faith, one Lord. 2. Your heralds brought glad tidings to greatest, as to least; they bade them rise, and hasten to share the great King’s feast; and this was all their teaching, in every deed and word, to all alike proclaiming one church, one faith, one Lord. 3. Through many a day of darkness, through many a scene of strife, the faithful few fought bravely to guard the nation’s life. Their gospel of redemption, sin pardoned, earth restored, was all in this enfolded: one church, one faith, one Lord. 4. Your mercy will not fail us, nor leave your work undone; with your right hand to help us, the victory shall be won; and then by all creation, your name shall be adored, and this shall be our anthem: one church, one faith, one Lord. 13

Offertory Prayer: Blessed are you, Lord, God of all creation. Through your goodness we have these gifts to share. Accept and use our offerings for your glory and for the service of your kingdom. BLESSED BE GOD FOR EVER.
