Year 9 learn about personal safety and first aid As a former police officer of 13 years I have considerable experience dealing with first aid and advising people on personal safety. I enjoyed sharing my experiences with the year 9 Personal Development class last Wednesday. We covered ways to keep safe when out with friends, including how to make yourself less likely to be a victim of crime. This advice included not walking in the dark on their own, not walking with their expensive items on display and always letting someone know where they are going. I then taught the class about how to deal with serious bleeds, how to check if an injured person is breathing, how to place them in the recovery position and how to administer CPR. Some of the class showed great confidence practicing the recovery position on each other. A test at the end of the lesson showed the class had really listened and they had learnt some valuable skills that could help them save a life. Jessica Boyden – Welfare Officer
