ASSISTANCE AVAILABLE

We are committed to providing financial assistance to those in our community who cannot afford the full price of membership and/or programs. Financial assistance keeps the Y available to all who need us most. We accept financial assistance applications year-round. Please note: all applications must be completed in full with necessary documentation attached to be considered. ABOUT OUR FACILITY

WELLNESS CENTER Our Wellness Center includes state-of-the-art cardiovascular, strength and flexibility equipment designed to meet the needs of both beginners and the experienced. The Wellness Center is divided into 4 areas: Cardio, Nautilus, Stretch & Core and Free Weights. The Cardio area includes a wide variety of equipment to help you increase your heart rate and improve cardiovascular health. The Nautilus area is equipped with machines designed to give you a totalbody workout. Our Stretch & Core area provides space for stretching & core strengthening. Our Free Weight area includes dumbbells, barbells, plate-loaded equipment, benches and more.

POOLS The Y has two indoor pools. The Taber Pool is our large 6-lane, 25-yard pool that is perfect for lap swimmers and swim team. Our warm-water small pool is a 4-lane, 20-yard temperature-controlled pool for open swims, physical therapy, aquatic fitness and youth swim classes.

GYM Our gym is available for basketball, volleyball, parties and our many group fitness classes.

RACQUETBALL & SQUASH Our facility includes two racquetball courts and one squash court.

LOCKER ROOMS Members have access to fully equipped youth and adult locker rooms as well as a family changing area and two family changing rooms with showers.

STEAM AND SAUNA Available to all adult members 18 and older and located in both adult locker rooms.

FITNESS STUDIO A temperature-controlled room dedicated to group fitness programs such as Y-Cycle, yoga, Pilates, dance, sculpt classes and more.

FIT ZONE Our newly renovated Fit Zone is designed to help our young members become more active, have fun and create healthy habits to last a lifetime! This space is for members 6–13 years and is filled with engaging youth-sized cardiovascular and strength equipment.

!Our Fit Zone staff help youth get oriented to the

equipment, start workout cards to track their activity and ensure the safety and proper use of equipment.

Our Fit Zone promotes the Let’s Move Holyoke 5210 message: 5 fruits/vegetables, 2 hours or less of recreational screen time, 1 or more hours of physical activity and 0 sweetened drinks daily. All youth ages 6-11 must be signed in/out by a parent/guardian. This adult must remain in the building at all times.

Fit Zone Hours Monday-Thursday: 5:00 to 7:30 PM plus additional times during the summer and school vacation weeks.

CHILD WATCH A fun, interactive place designed with your child in mind. For use by children 4 weeks-7 years who accompany their parents. Allow your kids to play for up to two hours while you enjoy the Y. Parent/guardian must be in the building at all times. Our Child Watch center features an indoor playground, creative toys and engaging activities. This program is free to members who hold a family or one-parent family membership. A $3 per child/per visit fee applies to all other membership types.

NEW ENGLAND RECIPROCITY PROGRAM This great program allows our full-facility adult members (18 and older) to use ANY other YMCA facility in New England at no charge! You'll need to present your membership card and a photo ID for access.

AWAY PROGRAM (OUTSIDE NEW ENGLAND) You are Always Welcome at YMCAs (AWAY)—even when you’re away from home! Use another YMCA by presenting your membership card. Each YMCA has its own AWAY fee policy. Call or see one of our Member Services representatives to find a YMCA near your travel destination.

GUEST PASSES

Full-facility members 18 and older are welcome to bring a guest. Youth may not bring guests.Youth guests with an adult (13 and younger) are $3 daily.

High school guests with an adult (ages 14–17) are $5 daily. Adult guests (18 and older) are $10 daily.

Guests 14 and older must fill out a Guest Information Form and leave a picture ID at the Member Service Desk. If you have never been to our Y and you are 18 or older, your first visit is on us!

MILITARY OUTREACH INITIATIVE The Greater Holyoke YMCA is an active participant in this initiative that addresses the needs of families of eligible military personnel, limited to Title 10 personnel only (per Department of Defense guidelines). We offer short-term memberships for adults and families of deployed Guard/Reserves or relocated spouse of active-duty service people in sixmonth intervals (up to 18 months) or those on active duty assigned to a location nearby.

YOUTH & TEEN PROGRAMS The Greater Holyoke YMCA provides preschool, after-school, day, weekend and vacation-week programming for youth ages 6 months–14 years. The purpose of these programs is to provide high-quality experiences that bolster self-confidence through learning and mastering new skills, create opportunities to improve social skills and motivate learning through goal-setting & celebrating accomplishments.

PROGRESSIVE ! SWIM LESSONS

The sooner the safer! YMCA swim lessons teach safety and responsibility around the water. Participants gain confidence and self-esteem as they work to become better, safer swimmers. Swim lessons are available for all ages and abilities. If you are uncertain which level is appropriate, please contact us to schedule a swim test prior to registration.

PRESCHOOL SWIM LESSONS

!WATER BABIES—Ages 6–35 months

Water Babies will focus on developing the comfort level of the young swimmer. Instructional advice will be shared with parents to assist in their child’s swim experience. Parents are encouraged to ask questions and share with each other as we splash and have fun swimming!

!

PIKE & PARENT—Ages 2–5 Many children are ready for the structure of a Pike class but feel more secure in the company of their favorite grown-up. Also for those who are advanced in Water Babies! Using the same format as our Pike lesson, adults participate with children, assist the instructor and have fun.

!

PIKE/EEL—Ages 3–5

GRADE SCHOOL AND ! TEEN SWIM LESSONS POLLIWOG—Ages 6–13

Polliwog is our beginner level for 6–13 year olds.

Swimmers work on their kick, breath control, front and back floats and then progress to independent swimming.

!

GUPPY/MINNOW—Ages 6–13

This is a beginner-level program as well as a class for those who have some swimming skills but still need the aid of a bubble. All children will be taught pool rules and breath control (bubbles, bobs) and experience swimming and floating on both their front and back.

Children must be able to swim 15 yards unassisted and be comfortable going underwater and floating on their back. They will learn rotary breathing, freestyle, backstroke and the kick for breast stroke.

STARFISH—Ages 3–5

Swimmers must be able to complete 100 yards of freestyle with rotary breathing, backstroke and breast stroke for 50 yards and have enough endurance to swim for 45 minutes with minimal breaks.

Starfish is for those preschoolers who are swimming at least 15 feet without a flotation aid and are also comfortable being on their back and going underwater.

Swimmers will learn more in-depth skills, such as freestyle, rotary breathing and backstroke.

AQUATICS PROGRAMS

ADAPTED AQUATICS This is a small parent/child class in which basic swim skills are taught to those with special needs. The Instructor will provide advice to aid in the child’s progress. Parents are encouraged to ask questions.

BACKYARD SWIM LESSONS These lessons happen in July and August in your own backyard pool! Lessons can have up to 6 children in one class. Each class will have 1 swim instructor and 1 lifeguard. Look for more information as summer 2015 approaches.

LEARN-TO-SWIM WEEKS

VIKING SWIM TEAM

!

The YMCA provides special intensive swim lessons during school vacation weeks. They focus on building swimming skills, teaching good safety habits and ways to be safe while swimming. Look for further information one month prior to February, April and June 2015 school vacation weeks.

!

Our Viking swim team is one of the finest YMCA/USA Competitive Swim Programs in New England, winning 20 Western Massachusetts YMCA District Swimming Championships since 1987, and is currently recognized by USA Swimming as a Level 2 Bronze Medal Club. Our girls team placed 3rd overall at the 2011 YMCA LCM Nationals Meet and 5th in 2013.

LIFEGUARD TRAINING

Program focus is on development of the total person through swimming, as each team member is encouraged to set individual and team goals. The program is conducted on a year-round basis, with the Winter Short Course Season running from September to March, and the Summer Long Course Season running from April to July. All families must send a parent representative to one parent meeting and are encouraged to volunteer.

LITTLE VIKINGS: PRE-COMPETITIVE SWIM LESSONS—Ages 5–12 Our competitive swim instruction program is designed to teach swimmers the necessary skills for our Viking swim team. The program is broken into small ageappropriate groups. Participants must attend two sessions per week. When the participant has exhibited the necessary skill base, he or she will be encouraged to join the Viking swim team.

Participants will learn how to guard, anticipate and prevent problems and take action to help those in danger. Training also covers safety and survival skills every swimmer needs to know, like accident prevention, guarding techniques, emergency system rescue, first aid in aquatic environments, spinal injury management, weather and open water dangers, legal responsibilities and pool management.

OPEN SWIM This is a recreational swim period for all youth and families. Children ages 7 and under must have a parent in the pool area at all times. One adult can be responsible for no more than 4 children. Full-facility membership is required for open swim.

PRIVATE & SEMI-PRIVATE SWIM LESSONS Does your child learn better one-on-one? We offer private and semi-private swim lessons for those who would benefit from a one-to-one teaching experience.

These lessons are available to any swimmer, ages 3 and up.

BALLET I—Ages 3–5 Learn the basics of ballet terminology and technique.

Youth will be introduced to basic ballet positions (pliés, relevés), creative dance and expression with fun music and rhythm with an introduction to the ballet barre.

An early childhood music and movement program for children from birth through age 5 and the grownups who love them. Music Together is a research-based, early childhood music curriculum that strongly emphasizes and facilitates adult involvement.

Continue your child’s basic dance education with more challenging techniques, barre exercises, floor work and choreography with music and rhythm while promoting freedom of expression. This class is appropriate for beginners, as well as those who have taken Ballet I in the past.

MUSIC TOGETHER TM—Parent & Child Ages 1–5

SOCCER—Ages 3.5–5 The Greater Holyoke YMCA youth soccer program will emphasize basic skill development, team play and sportsmanship. This program is a great way to introduce your child to soccer or build on existing skills. Each child will receive a T-shirt.

T-BALL—Ages 3.5–5 The Greater Holyoke YMCA T-ball program emphasizes basic skill development, team play and sportsmanship.

This program is for boys and girls ages 3.5–5 years and is a great way to introduce your child to T-ball or build on existing skills. Each child will receive a Tshirt.

TUMBLE-TASTIC—Ages 3.5–5 This creative movement class is designed to introduce youth to basic tumbling skills. Through a combination of fun structured and open-play activities, children are able to explore and develop their bodies. Bring your energy, and we will provide the props, games and activities to ensure a tumbling good time!

GROUP FITNESS CLASSES—AGES 14–17 Teens are welcome to attend land-based group fitness classes. Group fitness classes are a fun and social way to meet your fitness goals. Enjoy a wide range of classes like Zumba, Cardio Hip-Hop, Body Sculpt, YCycle, Yoga and more. A description of classes is located on pages 12–13.

Our dedicated staff is trained in child development, positive behavior, first aid and CPR. All of our sites are licensed by the Massachusetts Department of Early Education and Care and serve children ages 5 through 13.

BEFORE-SCHOOL PROGRAM We offer two before-school programs in South Hadley. The Plains School Program serves children enrolled at Plains Elementary School. The Mosier School Program serves children enrolled at Mosier Elementary and Michael E. Smith Middle Schools.

Staff walk the middle school students over to their school at the appropriate time. Program staff will assist with homework and facilitate group activities. A light breakfast is served.

TEEN FITNESS ORIENTATION—Ages 11–17 This program is required for all 11- to 17-year-old members who wish to utilize our Wellness Center. This orientation is designed to help young people learn the fundamentals of exercise, exercise safety and Wellness Center guidelines and etiquette. Schedule your orientation at the Wellness Center desk.

TEEN PERSONAL TRAINING—Ages 11–17 The Y’s personal trainers provide motivation, inspiration, feedback and sport-specific conditioning programs. This one-on-one or small-group program adds variety and fun to your workout. Great for pre-/ off-season sports conditioning. See youth development flyer for price.

CHILD!CARE

Y-KIDS PRESCHOOL

The Y-Kids Preschool is a full- or ½-day program for 3- to 5-year-olds. Y-Kids is located at St. Paul's Church. The program boosts early learning in children by focusing on: large & small group time, choice time, transition time, physical activity, healthy eating and taking advantage of all the Y has to offer in a safe and fun environment. The Y-Kids program includes: swim lessons, early literacy, tumbling, music, arts, nutrition, kindergarten readiness and more. Financial assistance is available.

SCHOOL-AGE CHILD CARE The Greater Holyoke YMCA has decades of experience providing safe, high-quality child care. Our mission is to provide age-appropriate activities that strengthen Page 10

AFTER-SCHOOL PROGRAM We offer after-school programs in Holyoke and South Hadley. Programs begin at school dismissal and run till 6:00 PM, Monday through Friday.

Sites are open on half days of school. Sign up for full-day programs during school vacation weeks for an additional fee.

SUMMER & VACATION ! WEEK CHILD CARE SUMMER CAMPS

Camping is a unique and invaluable experience! YMCA campers learn how to be responsible and resourceful, work in groups, solve problems and make decisions that will help them grow as individuals—all while having fun. The Greater Holyoke YMCA has two summer camps: one in Holyoke and one in South Hadley. The camps are for children ages 3–13. Field trips are an integral part of the camp program in which campers are introduced to and shown ways to appreciate our areas’ outdoor resources.

SCHOOL VACATION CAMPS The Y offers weeklong camps coinciding with February and April school vacations. Come to the Y and have a fun week full of great activities. Each week will include swim lessons, recreational swimming, arts and crafts, nutrition lessons, gym time and more! A healthy snack will be provided daily. Detailed information is available at the Member Service Desk one month prior to school vacation weeks. Pre-registration required.

With a shared commitment to nurturing the potential of kids, improving health and giving back and supporting our neighbors, we offer classes, trainings and programs to the community that align with our mission.

Here are some of our community initiatives and events.

INITIATIVES !The Y is participating in a collaborative effort to improve

health outcomes and reduce health care costs. Our partners include the Holyoke Medical Center, Holyoke Health Center, River Valley Counseling, Western MA Physician Association, City of Holyoke’s Board of Health and Let’s Move Holyoke 5210 to improve the health of individuals in Holyoke through clinical and community evidence-based interventions that impact five priority health conditions–hypertension, pediatric asthma, tobacco use, obesity and oral health. Below are the programs that are part this initiative:

YMCA’S DIABETES PREVENTION PROGRAM

The YMCA’s Diabetes Prevention Program will help you learn about and adopt the healthy eating and physical activity habits that have been proven to reduce the risk of developing type 2 diabetes. Through the program you will receive support and encouragement from both a trained lifestyle coach and fellow classmates as you develop a plan for improving and maintaining your overall well-being.

TOBACCO CESSATION

We know that quitting tobacco use is very difficult and requires a great deal of commitment and support. If you are ready to quit smoking or other forms of tobacco, we can refer you to programs and services to help you reach your goal. Talk with any of our staff to get referred.

BLOOD PRESSURE SCREENINGS

Knowing your blood pressure is a key component to maintaining your overall health. By taking steps to lower your blood pressure, you can reduce your risk of heart disease, stroke, and kidney failure. Lowering your blood pressure can help you live a longer, healthier life. Knowing your blood pressure is the first step. Stop by the Wellness Center or Member Service Desk to request a blood pressure screening.

The Fall Fun Run/Walk is a family-friendly event with postrace food, raffles and music. The event is held at the Holyoke Lodge of Elks next to Ashley Reservoir.

SPRING CYCLE-A-THON Teams and individuals spin for a good cause, the Y’s Annual Campaign. The program is open to all skill levels and experience. Ride for 15 minutes or all three hours!

Babysitting is an important job. It's about more than making money. You need life and safety skills to take care of and protect children. Safe Sitter teaches you what to do!

DARKNESS 2 LIGHT One in four girls and one in six boys are sexually abused by the age of 18. The Y is committed to training 1,500 adults in the Darkness to Light (D2L) Stewards of Children program, which gives adults the skills to recognize, respond to and react responsibly to child sexual abuse. Check our website for training times and schedules.

CPR/AED TRAININGS The safety of our community is everyone’s responsibility. The Greater Holyoke YMCA is proud to offer CPR/AED trainings for our members and community. You never know when you might be in a position to help save someone’s life! These trainings include certificates in both infant/child and adult CPR and AED and are held Saturdays from 9:30 AM to 12:30 PM. 2014–2015 dates: October 25 January 10 April 25 June 27

HEALTHY KIDS DAY Every April, the Y hosts this fun event to improve the health and well-being of children and families. Healthy Kids day is free and open to the public and includes healthy cooking demonstrations, field games, health and wellness information and much more.

KIDS NIGHT OUT—Ages 6 months-13 years Parents, enjoy some adult time and be assured your children will have a blast in a safe, caring, fun environment. Once a month, this is your chance to have a date night, finish a project, go shopping or just relax.

Kids Night Out is from 6:00 to 9:00 PM. Preregistration by the Friday before the program is required.

STAY DAY—Ages 6 months-13 years Your child will have a fun and safe experience in our Child Watch while you get to run errands, meet a friend for lunch, attend a meeting or appointment or tackle something on your to-do list! Stay Day is offered two times a month from 11:30 AM to 2:30 PM. Watch for flyers around the Y for monthly dates and cost.

FAMILY NIGHT Special time for families to have fun and create memories that last a lifetime! Enjoy family participation in swimming, sports, games, crafts and much more. All children must be accompanied by an adult during all Family Night activities, including swimming.

ACTIVE OLDER ADULT (A.O.A.)

A 45-minute low-impact fitness class that works on building muscle strength, flexibility and balance.

BODY SCULPT A nonaerobic class designed to help build muscle strength through resistance training. Increase your metabolism, feel stronger and make everyday tasks easier.

BOOT CAMP This advanced-level class is designed to work your entire body while improving and increasing your overall fitness level. This interval-style class will alternate between cardio bursts, weight and core work.

Modifications are provided, so you can choose your level of intensity. Great class for both men and women–no choreography.

CARDIO HIP-HOP An all-level energetic class that lets you release your stresses from the day with combinations of dance and aerobic moves. It will have you feeling like you just left the party you didn’t want to end!

Y-CYCLE (GENTLE & REGULAR) Come ride inside! Imagine interval training in a room filled with motivational music and ENERGY! Call or stop by the Member Service Desk 24 hours in advance to reserve a bike. Participants must bring water. New participants must be fitted on a bike, so plan to arrive 10 minutes early to your first class. All fitness levels are welcome.

YOGA Yoga is a total-body workout emphasizing the rhythm of your breathing in a peaceful, relaxed atmosphere.

The practice of yoga positions will help improve your flexibility, muscle tone and posture.

YOGA (FITNESS) CARDIO KICKBOX

This all-level class will blend athletic drills with martial arts to create an intense cardiovascular workout. Class will begin with core work/warm-up, and transition to combinations of cardio bursts, punches and kicks. Class concludes with a cool-down of more core work and stretching. Bring a towel and water!

PILATES Learn overall body awareness, improve posture, flexibility, balance, strength and agility. This all-levels class emphasizes proper breathing techniques and correct spinal and pelvic alignment.

A 60-minute athletic and flowing yoga class, boosted with cardio, weights and plyometric sets that get your heart pumping. Class is set to current and classic music and moves through sequences that will challenge you and push boundaries safely. This class moves quickly. It is requested that you have a foundational yoga practice. This is not for a first-time yoga student.

YOGA (GENTLE) Uses a chair and is a class for everyone. !!

ADULT AQUATICS !

POWER SCULPT This class is designed to tone and strengthen your entire body while using large muscle groups to increase your heart rate. The last part of the class is mat work to target the core. Come get a great workout using fun and unique techniques. Class is appropriate for all levels.

TOTAL FITNESS You will bring up your heart rate through a series of cardio bursts, strengthen and build muscle with the use of weights and finish on the mats to tone and strengthen your core. This is a great class for both men and women–no choreography. Low to high intensity determined by the participant.

SALSA LESSONS Here is your chance to learn how to salsa in a small group setting. What a great way to learn this Latin dance style and get in shape along the way.

ARTHRITIS FOUNDATION WATER AEROBICS A water aerobics class that includes range of motion, muscular strength and endurance. This is a great class for those with arthritis or other related conditions, and it’s beneficial to all individuals who are ready to join a low-intensity exercise program.

AQUA FITNESS Aqua Fitness uses the natural resistance of the water to help participants build cardiovascular endurance, muscular strength and endurance and flexibility.

AQUA AEROBICS This fun-filled class provides intense cardiovascular exercise by incorporating aerobics moves. The class will also include the use of resistive equipment to incorporate muscle toning. This is a great class that is not hard on the joints!

SWIM-FIT Swim-Fit is designed for adults who would benefit from a supervised swim workout. This class will not only build your endurance and speed but also improve your swimming technique. Participants are encouraged to have a bathing cap and goggles. A pull buoy and kickboards are available for use during the class. Class meets 1 to 3 days per week. You have the option to do 1, 2 or all 3 classes.

ADULT SWIM LESSONS This is a progressive, but gentle, introduction to swimming that helps participants become comfortable and confident in the water.

MASTERS SWIMMING Masters Swimming is an organized program of swimming for adults. The focus of this program is to provide structured workouts for swimmers. This program differs from lap swimming in that a coach will be at all practices to give feedback, including stroke refinement. The coach will adapt the workouts to meet your needs and goals while providing a fun and challenging workout for all. Be a part of a community that offers active support for a healthy lifestyle through aquatic fitness, friendship and camaraderie.

OPEN SWIM This is a recreational swim period for all youth and families. Children ages 7 and under must have a parent in the pool area at all times. (One adult can be responsible for no more than 4 children attending.)

Full-facility membership is required for open swim.

PRIVATE & SEMI-PRIVATE SWIM LESSONS For the individual who would benefit from a one-toone teaching experience. These lessons are available to any swimmer. Contact Kerry Cordis to schedule a half-hour appointment.

SENIOR SWIM This takes place in the small pool, which is a warmwater pool.

SOAKER SWIM This is an opportunity for persons recovering from injuries to swim in calm, warm water. This swim time is held in the small pool.

Lap swimmers in the large pool have a chance to join our “50-mile club.” Members of this “club” have the number of laps they swim each day recorded by the lifeguard on duty. Members who reach 50 miles (that’s 3,600 laps!) have a profile displayed on the large pool wall, receive a commemorative patch for bags or bathing suits and a certificate. It is free to all YMCA members and is available during all lap swim times.

Masters Swimming Club Where adult swimmers come to stay active and fit!

Improve or learn swimming skills under a coach’s guidance on a team. The Masters Swimming club includes a variety of training opportunities throughout the week to meet all levels and needs—the team is coached by a USAT Level 1-certified triathlon coach. Join a team that provides support, friendships and camaraderie, while training to reach your goals! For more information, visit the Member Service Desk.

NUTRITION 101 This 4-session class is designed to provide you with everything you need to know to understand basic nutrition concepts and make healthy food choices.

Classes focus on: understanding nutrients, how to fuel your body, understanding food labels and portions and eating a balanced diet.

HEALTHY COOKING DEMONSTRATIONS Once a month our Nutrition Specialist will lead a free healthy cooking demonstration open to members and the community. HEALTHY COOKING 101 This 4-session class builds on and reinforces the knowledge learned in Nutrition 101, while introducing basic healthy cooking concepts. Classes focus on sugar and sodium reduction, cooking from scratch and preparing simple balanced meals.

MEMBERSHIP & PROGRAM POLICIES !

MEMBERSHIP CATEGORIES

FULL-FACILITY MEMBERSHIPS Full-facility members have access to all program areas: Wellness Center (cardio and strength machines), Fit Zone, large and small pools, racquetball and squash courts, gymnasium, group fitness classes, steam and sauna for adults, family changing rooms, boys and girls locker rooms and men’s and women’s locker rooms.

• ADULT: Any individual member between the ages of 26 and 64.

• ADULT COUPLE: Two adults living in the same household.

• FAMILY: A family membership with 2 adults and all dependent children (25 years and younger) living in the same household.

• ONE-PARENT FAMILY: A family with 1 adult or a 2parent family but only one adult in the household joins the Y. Includes all dependent children (25 years and younger) living in the same household.

• SENIOR: Any member age 65 or older.

• YOUNG ADULT: Any individual member between the ages of 19 and 25.

• HIGH SCHOOL: For teens ages 14 to 18. If under 18, parent/guardian is required to sign the membership application. Teens have full use of the facility, but must sign the Wellness Center teen guidelines and complete an orientation if between the ages of 14 and 17.

LIMITED-FACILITY MEMBERSHIPS Limited-facility memberships have access to specific areas based on age or to specific programs based on registration.

• YOUTH: For youth ages 7 to 13 years old. A parent/ guardian is required to sign membership application.

Unless they are in a program and under the supervision of Y staff, youth members 11 and younger must be accompanied by a parent/guardian while in the facility.

Youth ages 11 to 13 are permitted to use the Wellness Center with a parent/guardian and after completing the youth orientation and signing the Wellness Center youth/teen guidelines.

• PROGRAM INDIVIDUAL: For individuals who want access only to programs for which there is a fee, such Page 16

as youth swim lessons or tumbling classes. Membership fee is paid annually. Program member pays an annual fee and a fee when registering for programs. Program members don’t have use of our facility, i.e., Wellness Center, pools, open gym, etc., outside their program.

• PROGRAM FAMILY: Same as program individual, but for the whole family. Some aquatic classes, camps for kids and special events require program registration. Visit our website for our most current program offerings for kids, adults and families.

MEMBERSHIP POLICIES

MEMBERSHIP CANCELLATION Members may terminate their payment authorization/ membership at any time. Termination must occur by the last day of the month to avoid an additional monthly fee.

All terminations must occur in person at the Member Service Desk and a change/termination form must be completed with member signature and date.

!CREDIT CARD/BANK DRAFT

• Payment by credit card/bank draft is a continuous membership plan. Members understand that their membership will remain in effect permanently until they initiate its termination.

• If members wish to terminate or change their membership in any way, they must do so in person at the Member Service Desk and complete a change/ termination form.

CREDIT CARD/BANK DRAFT (CONT.) • Membership fees are nonrefundable and nontransferable.

• The Y gives members 30-day written notice of any change in dues structure.

• If bank/credit card returns payment to the Y, members have 10 days from the return date to pay the balance.

The Y will terminate memberships if we do not receive payment within 10 days of the return date.

!MEMBER USE POLICIES

• Parents/guardians are responsible for the supervision of their children while using our facility unless the children are enrolled in a scheduled, supervised activity. Parents/ guardians are expected to help enforce the Y’s expectations/rules.

• Group fitness classes are open to all full-facility members ages 14 and older.

• The safety of our youth members and guests is a priority. Children ages 11 and under must be accompanied by an adult at all times while in the Y, unless participating in a supervised program.

• Youth ages 12 and older must have a membership card and photo taken if they are to attend the Y without an adult.

• Youth ages 11 to 13 can use the Wellness Center under the supervision of a parent/guardian and must complete a kid-friendly orientation.

• Youth ages 14 and older can use the Wellness Center unsupervised but must sign in before each use.

!OTHER MEMBERSHIP POLICIES

• All new adult and family memberships are subject to a $50.00 joiner’s fee. Any membership expired for more than 6 months is considered a new membership and is subject to the $50.00 joiners fee. The joiner’s fee is waived for military personnel with service ID. • Annual membership renewals are due on the expiration date.

• Membership cards should be carried at all times and swiped when entering the facility.

!SOCIAL MEDIA POLICY

The Greater Holyoke YMCA does not tolerate discrimination in social media content (including age, sex, race, color, creed, religion, ethnicity, sexual orientation,

gender identity, national origin, citizenship, disability or marital states or any other legally recognized, protected basis under federal or local laws, regulations or ordinances). The Y doesn't allow content on its social media that is not aligned with our values of respect, responsibility, honesty and caring. We therefore delete hate speech, ethnic slurs, profanity, personal insults or inflammatory comments. If social media content is topically relevant and doesn’t violate any of the standards outlined above, we don't delete the comment, even if we disagree with it.

FACILITY USE

The Greater Holyoke YMCA strongly encourages mutual support among its members in efforts to achieve their fitness and/or life goals. Additionally, the Y provides a wide variety of professional classes, programs, trainings and coaching opportunities to its members. However, in light of legal, insurance, liability, ethical and other considerations, the Y cannot support the use of its facilities or equipment for provision of formalized thirdparty (nonstaff) training or coaching. If you wish to rent the facility for other possible uses (e.g., sports leagues, special events, meeting space), please notify Member Servce staff.

PROGRAM POLICIES

PROGRAM CANCELLATION AND REFUND • The YMCA reserves the right to cancel any class that does not meet the minimum enrollment. Registrants will receive a minimum of 24-hour notice of a class cancellation via phone or e-mail.

• If the YMCA cancels a class/program, registrants will receive a program credit or refund.

PROGRAM CANCELLATION AND REFUND (CONT.) • Registrants must provide a minimum of 48 hours notice of cancellation prior to the first class to be eligible for a refund or credit. Refunds require a minimum of $25; amounts less than $25 may be used as a program credit.

Exception made for medical reasons only.

• Director-approved credits or refunds will first be applied to any outstanding account balances and the remainder will be made available to the registrant.

LATE REGISTRATIONS Those registering late for the start of a program will not be given a prorated price. Registering after the first week of the session requires approval.

!CLASS CANCELLATION AND CLASS MAKEUP

• Classes canceled due to inclement weather will not be made up, rescheduled or refunded. Weather cancellations will be announced on TV Channels 22 and 40 and the Y’s website and Facebook page.

• When the Holyoke Public Schools are canceled due to inclement weather, all morning classes are canceled as well as Child Watch. Cancellation of evening classes will occur by 4:00 PM. • If the Y cancels a class due to instructor illness or some other unforeseen reason, the Y will do its best to offer a makeup class. If no makeup can be scheduled, a credit will be issued.

• There will be no credits issued if a participant misses a class. However, a makeup class may be scheduled (if possible) with approval from the Director.

!SUPERVISION OF YOUTH

For all youth 11 years and younger, a parent/guardian must accompany his or her child until a Y staff person is present and ready to begin class.

!INSURANCE STATEMENT

Members and program members participate in programs and use the facility at their own risk, and are encouraged to have personal medical insurance coverage. The Y does not provide accident insurance for injuries sustained during Y activities.

!SPECIAL NEEDS

Every person, regardless of special need, is welcome to register for Y programs. At the time of registration, if a child’s particular needs appear not to be met by our standard program, a meeting will take place between the parents/guardian and the appropriate Director. At that meeting, the child’s needs must be detailed and a written plan generated indicating what changes in program, routine or setting would accommodate those needs. The plan will be reviewed by the Associate Executive Director

to determine if it would pose a hardship. Whenever possible, adaptations will be made, but if an undue hardship would be imposed to accommodate the special needs, the parents will be informed in writing within 1 week of the initial meeting. In such a case, the parents/ guardian may appeal the decision directly to the appropriate governing body for other programs. Adults with special needs may bring care providers to attend to them in classes or exercise areas. Every attempt will be made to help everyone fit in.

BEHAVIOR MANAGEMENT Y staff will do their best to work with participants to ensure a positive experience for all. In situations where behavior disrupts the general atmosphere, the Y staff will work with the participant and/or parent/guardian to discuss solutions. If the behavior continues or worsens, the Director will speak with the parent/guardian about other behavior modifications or another choice of programming. Participation in a Y program is a privilege, and the Y reserves the right to remove/suspend a participant from any program if necessary. Additional behavior management policies apply to before- and afterschool programs and summer camp. These policies can be found in the Parent Handbook.

PARKING The Y understands during certain times of the year finding a parking space can be challenging. However, it’s imperative we leave the sidewalk along Pine Street free of cars. This is an active sidewalk for our neighborhood and parking on any sidewalk is a violation of city ordinances and may result in a ticket or your car being towed.
