A Message From the President
Dear Friends,
It is my pleasure to welcome you to Black and White by the Bay. Once again, this important event has an entirely different look. Due to the continuing threat posed by Covid the auction will be virtual this year, but your support is more important than ever. Opening our doors for in-person instruction last August was not a foregone conclusion. It took a great deal of planning on the part of administration, faculty and staff, and working together with you, our parents, we made it happen for the vast majority of students. We have been able, for the most part, to ensure strong academic, religious and extracurricular programs for your children. Additionally, we were able to provide virtual learning experience opportunities for those who chose to remain home. We look forward to next school year when, hopefully, we will be back to normal.
The proceeds from this auction help defray the cost of educating all pre-K to 12 students at the Academy. The funds raised this week will enable us to enhance the educational and cocurricular experiences for our students, provide professional development opportunities for our teachers, and support programs like robotics in the elementary and middle schools and engineering in the high school.
This year’s Fund-an-Item will support need-based tuition assistance. The Academy will provide some form of financial aid to roughly 20 percent of the student body. These funds make an Academy education more affordable for families whose children ordinarily would not be able to attend. A strong commitment to financial aid is a critical component of who we are as a school and is consistent with the mission and charism of the Sisters of the Holy Names. I hope you will be generous when you are asked to participate.
This week’s events are the result of the hard work and dedication of many members of the community. On behalf of the entire Academy family, I want to thank all of you who donated and procured items, chaired committees, and volunteered countless hours to this wonderful cause. I want to especially thank our co-chairs, Katie O’Brien and Michelle Reeves, for the many, many hours they spent working to ensure a successful evening. Infinite thanks are extended to all our sponsors for their continued leadership-level support.

During these unprecedented times we are faced with the challenge of finding normalcy while keeping health and safety the upmost priority. We are thrilled the Academy of the Holy Names’ 2021 auction, Black & White By the Bay, has found a way to do just that! We look forward to sharing this unique experience with you.
Get excited for a full week of giving leading up to the main event! On Surprise Monday, a special treat exploding with auction spirit will be sent home with every student. Then don’t miss Take Out Tuesday, when you can order food from a list of local restaurants that will be supporting the Academy with a portion of the proceeds from that day. Next up is Wine Wednesday, and our highly sought out Wine Wall is an outdoor, contactless drive-thru wine pull in the Oak Grove. Get your tickets while they last! Triple Play Thursday will offer flash sales and special deals to highlight our amazing chance drawings. You could be the lucky winner of the Mystery Bag, a brandnew Peloton, or $5,000 tuition credit!
The excitement will continue on VIP Friday with an in-person, limited capacity sponsor reception outside in the Oak Grove. The ambience will be set with outdoor lighting and a DJ while the VIPs enjoy cocktails and delicious small plates from local food trucks. A live auction item will be introduced for bidding as we celebrate our sponsors.
The Week of Giving culminates with Saturday’s Virtual Auction, a 1-hour action-packed, telethon-style livestream event you won’t want to miss! With your screen set and your cocktails ready, join us for an opening prayer and special toast. Keep your bids alive on your hand-held device while you watch the live drawing for the winner of the Peloton bike! After meeting a few sponsors, the winner of the Mystery Bag chance drawing will be revealed, leaving one lucky person with a handbag and prizes worth $3,000. Your contribution offers students with financial need access to educational opportunities and to life opportunities that will help them become successful adults. He and his wife, Heidrun, opened their custom frame gallery, The Great Frame Up, in 2006. For the past eight years, while serving the Tampa Bay community’s custom framing needs, Alan has grown into a prolific and well-known Tampa Bay artist. He began with pencil drawings and has moved into painting vibrant, acrylic works featuring abstracts and safari animals. He has gained quite a following. Alan’s art has been sold throughout Tampa and St. Petersburg, and has been auctioned at charity events for organizations like the Lowry Park Zoo. Crested is Jameson’s oldest distillery bottled brand, and not available in the United States. Jameson Crested Whiskey is a tribute to the first drops bottled at its famous Dublin, Bow Street Distillery. Jameson Whiskey originally did not bottle their own whiskey but instead sold it to bonders in casks to be bottled by merchants. When merchants began watering down the whiskey to stretch the profit, Jameson stepped in to prevent damage to their brand’s reputation. Crested was Jameson’s first bottled brand and is a favorite whiskey of the Emerald Isle--so favored, in fact, that few bottles are allowed to leave.
