Principal's Message
Holy Family Community,
The planning of a new school year is full of possibilities. It is a chance to celebrate and embrace the finest aspects of our history while dedicating ourselves to meeting the evolving needs of our community.
With this vision in mind, I stepped into my role as principal of Holy Family High School, filled with pride, optimism, and gratitude. I am deeply thankful for everyone who has contributed to making Holy Family the outstanding institution it is today and for those who drive us forward as we embark on our second century of Catholic education.
The ability to walk into work every day and openly practice our faith, to walk along with others practicing their faith, and to help lead our students to Christ are some of the most important parts of my daily life that make my career in Catholic education so special.
Catholic schools are key in the formation of our young people. They are a place where we grow in community with one another, where our children grow (spirit, mind, and body), where they witness faith daily in their teachers, staff, and administrators, and where they learn to be caring, compassionate, and loving individuals who go on to serve and grow our church.
I am incredibly grateful for the great work of Holy Family’s faculty and staff, who tirelessly committed themselves during a time of school leadership transition. Alongside our friends and benefactors, board members, and alumni, it is how we come together with our students' needs and interests in mind that I want to say, "Thank you!"
As you look through the pages of this magazine, you will witness the remarkable achievements of our students. These accomplishments are a direct result of your generous support – be it spiritual, financial, or in the form of your time. I want to convey my deep appreciation for your contributions and express my anticipation for the many ways you will continue to uphold our mission.
God Bless,
Mike D. Gabriel Principal Holy Family High School

Graduation Speech Excerpts
'24 William Brower
Valedictorian
High school is a journey we have undertaken, each uniquely. For many of us, this moment could not come sooner - but for just as many, this moment is bittersweet. While graduation is a bold step into the future, it is also a step into a world without the presence and reassurance of our parents and teachers who helped to pave the way for our success. However, while you walk this new path independently, you do not walk it unguided. You take the lessons from your faith, your parents, and your time at Holy Family with you.
As you embark on the next phase, please hold fast to the principles of faith that have guided your life thus far. Remember the forgiveness shown to you by your teachers and friends here, and reciprocate to your future peers and mentors. Be honest and humble in your actions, and have patience for others and yourself.
Similarly, in the instances where the world may challenge your worldview or morality, hold steadfast in your beliefs. Set the example for forgiveness, honesty, and humility while keeping the courage to stay true to your beliefs and who you are.
In a world that seems increasingly divided, reject hatred and ignorance and instead promote generosity, love, and respect to reform it into one of unity and understanding. Affirm the dignity of all humanity, no matter who they are. Embrace your individuality,
champion inclusivity, and strive to build bridges of empathy and compassion. Transform the world's ignorance into understanding and compassion for all.
Never underestimate the power of words; even the smallest outcry against injustice can ripple outwards, and the slightest sign of love can help provide courage and support to someone struggling. Whether you speak on the injustices in your personal life, stand up for equality in the larger world, or show support for a friend, let your actions be guided by love and fueled by the hope of a better future.
As you step out of these halls, remember that your education is not confined to the walls of this school. Life itself is a journey of continuous learning and growth. Stay curious, remain open-minded, and never stop seeking knowledge and truth. This thirst for learning, this hunger for growth, tied with your faith, will be your greatest asset in creating a better world.
Remember, the world is now ours: each and every one of us has the potential to make it not only better but truly great.

Graduation Speech Excerpts
On a day like today, we emphasize the trajectory of the path we’ll follow. We can’t calculate this type of trajectory using physics, but we can pinpoint certain moments that changed the direction our lives would follow. What if we narrowed this big picture, perhaps to a significant year, month, or day we had? When we do this, we recognize the power of one day. One day can change our futures by unlocking an experience that transforms how we see the world.
This moment may be a single decision you made. You saw people playing a sport, and you decided it was something you wanted to try. You may have
heard about a new club at Holy Family that caught your attention at the right moment. You might have seen a theater performance and been taken to the stage with a leap of courage. Maybe one day you saw an injustice and decided to speak out. You saw the dignity in someone suffering, and instead of carrying on, you chose to show them Christ’s love.
These singular moments come to define us; they create our character.
Are these details coincidence? Is it by chance that we came to the path we are on today? I believe that God sets these opportunities before us daily, and it is up to us to see the significance in seemingly insignificant moments. Today is both a closing and a beginning. I know many of you are so excited to move on to college. That is the part of us that smiles today, that hopes for the future. Yet today, we are caught between two chapters of our lives. Another part of us turns back and looks at high
school. The friends we made, and the teachers who walk the halls. That part of us is sad that this day has finally come.
The power of today lies in our ability to bridge the gap between all that lies behind us and the hope for our futures. We are stewards of each day that we have. As you remember all the little moments that brought you to this point today, remember that you will have infinitely more chances ahead. Today, we celebrate the power of the days behind us and the power of the days before us. Let us seize those days.

Mr. & Ms. Holy Family
Ms. Holy Family Avery Alderman

What does the recognition of Ms. Holy Family mean to you?
It is an incredible honor especially since there are so many amazing people in my class. I see it as a responsibility and a motivator. I know that I must continue representing Holy Family in its mission and values as I move into the next chapter of my life.
What words of encouragement do you have for future HF students?
Listen and pay attention. You will learn so much if you open yourself up to the teachers, classes, and other students. I know it can be tempting to sometimes turn your blinders on and tune out everyone, but you gain so much from being open to your surroundings.
Mr. Holy Family Dominic Gabriel

What does the recognition of Mr. Holy Family mean to you?
I am very grateful. It is an honor to be recognized. Being Mr. Holy Family has been a dream of mine since I was young.
What words of encouragement do you have for future HF students?
Be strong and disciplined. Being strong will help you to get through tough times. Every day might not be a good day. But you will have more good days than bad days; getting through the bad days makes you who you are. Have the courage to stand up for what’s right and be someone people can look up to.
Also, involve yourself in the community and be present. I've experienced it firsthand and can confirm that your time in high school flies by quickly. Do not rush through it, and genuinely try to have fun. I recommend going to games, theater, dances, and being a part of clubs. Enjoy your time here!
Have strong character and do the right things when nobody is watching. Most importantly, don’t forget who you are. There is only one you, so be that person and be the best you can be every day.

Holy Family finished the season 13-1 and on a 10-game winning streak. This is Holy Family’s fourth state football title in school history (2023, 2005, 2002, 1947).

Holy Family Theater's cast of Cinderella enchanted audiences with five SOLD OUT performances from April 24 to 27.

33rd Annual Holy Family Tiger Gala
The 33rd Annual Holy Family Tiger Gala, held on April 20, 2024, at the Omni Interlocken, was a remarkable event spotlighting the Holy Family High School community. Simone De Alba, a 2006 Holy Family graduate and CBS affiliate anchor at WUSA 9 in Washington D.C., graced us as the master of ceremonies.
We proudly honored Joe and Sugar Calabria with the prestigious St. joseph Award for their enduring support of Holy Family High School. Joe and Sugar’s contributions to Holy Family have been nothing short of transformative. Their unwavering support has touched every corner of our institution and has enriched the lives of countless students and families.
The funds raised, exceeding $525,000 (net), surpassed last year's total by over $100,000. These funds will bolster the salaries of our devoted teaching faculty, ensuring they receive equitable compensation compared to their peers in neighboring districts. We extend our heartfelt gratitude to our sponsors, underwriters, and the Tiger Gala committee for their invaluable contributions to this resounding success.

Moriah Montoya
'24
Class of 2024 graduate Moriah Montoya is headed to Las Vegas, where she earned a spot on one of the elite collegiate dance programs in the country, the University of Nevada-Las Vegas Rebel Girls & Company dance team. They are no strangers to success, having won 10 Division I-A national championships in the hiphop and game-day disciplines at the Universal Dance Association's National Championships.
The road to one of the most decorated collegiate programs was quite a journey for Montoya. "Growing up as a competitive dancer, I've had a yearround training and dance schedule for as long as I can remember," she said. "It is a lot of hard work, but I absolutely love it. Dancing gives me freedom and happiness that is almost indescribable."
It was in the summer before Montoya's junior year that Holy Family formed a varsity poms dance program. In its first two years, the Holy Family poms team won back-to-back league championships and twice finished third at state. Then, in Montoya's final high school dance competition, she helped the Tigers take home a national third-place finish in small varsity game day at The National Dance Team Championships in Orlando. They also made the national semi-finals in hip hop and pom.
"Dancing for my school was such an honor, especially knowing all the work that went into getting Poms at Holy Family," she said. "I know this team will be a force at the state and national level for years to come. I hope my journey paves a path to a future in collegiate dance for other poms team girls."
"The recruiting process was very foreign to me. My parents and I did a lot of research on how to get on a college dance team," she said. "We realized you must make yourself known in the high school dance world. I started following collegiate teams on social media, emailing coaches, contacting dancers, and trying anything to get my name out there. I went to several college dance clinics around the country, and eventually, I decided to pursue UNLV after talking to their coaches and choreographers."
While many college dance programs recruit top talent, similar to collegiate football teams, UNLV takes a different approach. They conduct an intense two-day tryout in early May, a process that Moriah found to be the most challenging she's ever faced.
"It was the hardest thing I've ever done. All the training and preparation came down to a couple of days. There were no guarantees," she said. "I was nervous, but I knew I had done all I could do in preparation."
"When the team list was posted and I saw my number, I was overwhelmed - crying, jumping, screaming. It was a realization that all the hard work had paid off. I couldn't wait to share the news with my parents, who have made incredible sacrifices for my dance journey," she expressed.
"I'm thankful to be here. It's been so incredibly hard. But, at the same time, dancing for such a great collegiate team is so humbling and exciting. I'm thankful for everything that has led me to this point — highs, lows, all of it."
All it took was a desire to dance.
