Dear KZN Cricket stakeholders I would to acknowledge all those that have endured hardships during the past period and condolences to all those that have lost loved ones. My wish is that you will find inner strength and peace to be able to handle these difficult times. When we reflect on the past financial year as the KZN Cricket Union, we are grateful that we have managed to flourish during a time when so many have experienced difficult times. It is certainly an honor to look back on the 2021/22 financial year. The KZNCU Constitution remains our guiding document and I would like to congratulate all my colleagues for ensuring that we continued to operate within those parameters. Our Council and Manco, along with the sub-committees, have fulfilled their various roles with distinction and it ensured that the staff under the guidance of our CEO could perform the operational side of our business with excellence.
Our heartfelt appreciation is extended to our incredible partners who have remained committed to the upliftment of cricket whilst enduring turbulent times. This support has brought immeasurable value to KZN Cricket and reiterates the power of teamwork. A special thank you to Hollywoodbets, Fourways Online, Sunfoil, KZNDSR, Hirsch’s, SAB, East Coast Radio, Coca-Cola, Mount Edgecombe, Sun International, Sorbet Gateway, PVM, Umthunzi Hotel & Conference, The George, Kookaburra, Dr Naidoo Skins Solutions, Illovo and TK Sports. We look forward to taking cricket in KZN to even greater heights with you in 2022/23. Supersport, our longtime partners in the professional entity, indicated during the year that they were in a process of divesting from most of the entities where they held equity. Initially it came as a shock, but their reasoning made business sense. I would like to acknowledge the positive working relationship and the professionalism that they added to our
business over the years. I am pleased to report that this process was concluded in a positive manner and that Supersport made a significant contribution to ensure that KZN (Pty) Ltd was left in a good space. They have also committed to a sponsorship agreement till 2025. This means that KZNCU now owns 100 percent of the shares in KZN (Pty) Ltd. KZN Inland’s affiliation process has progressed according to the CSA timeline. All required documents in terms of playing, coaching, match officials, grounds and facilities, administration, finance, governance, and transformation have been submitted. CSA has conducted a physical inspection and as per the process an official application has now been lodged for further consideration. The final part of the process will be for CSA to approve the application at their Annual general meeting. On the field, I am very proud of our Hollywoodbets Dolphins and Hollywoodbets KZN Coastal Women who have produced standout performances for the Proteas and Momentum Proteas. The return of spectators and other activities across the cricket pipeline remain one of my favourite highlights from the season. A special thank you to all KZNCU Clubs and Districts who selflessly perserved to keep cricket alive in their areas.
As we step into the 2022/23 season, I would like to encourage all stakeholders to reset and renew commitment and involvement with KZN Cricket. We have made significant strides over the last few years, and we can all reflect proudly on a very successful period. Let us continue to build this legacy that will ensure the future of cricket for generations to come.

Dear Cricket family It is my pleasure to report on the operations of the KZN Cricket Union and KZN Cricket (Pty) Ltd for the 2021/22 financial year.
Governance
It was certainly one of the most difficult years to navigate due to the continued effects of the COVID-19 pandemic, riots and flooding. We lost various members of our wider cricket family and our macro-economic climate took some significant hits which included severely reduced funding from our mother body, Cricket South Africa, and much reduced stadium revenue due to the restrictions on fans. Another effect of the pandemic was that communication with internal and external stakeholders became extremely challenging.
As an affiliate of Cricket South Africa, it has certainly been pleasing to see the progress made at national level in terms of governance. It has been a stormy period, but there is certainly now some light in the tunnel. We remain grateful to our national body for all the support received during the past year.
Taking all these negatives into consideration I am especially proud to report that we had positive results on all fronts. I remain immensely grateful for every opportunity, friendship, and support along the way. Thank you for playing your part in planting the seeds that will become the trees that will provide the shade for the future generation.
General
As the KZN Cricket Union we continue to pride ourselves on the implementation of good governance principles. Lots of credit to our president, Mr. Yunus Bobat, who led the way with the office bearers, Manco, Council and (Pty) Board members, as well as the various committees. Special mention must also go to our Vice-president and representative on the CSA Board, Mr. Daniel Govender. During the year unfortunately Supersport announced a disinvestment in most of the entities where they owned equity, and this was also the case for KZN (Pty) Ltd. This meant that KZNCU bought back the 50% share Supersport had in KZN Cricket (Pty) Ltd.
KZN Inland Seven years ago, KZN Inland (KZNI) was placed under the administration of the KZN Cricket Union. We have managed to solve most of the issues and put structures in place to enable us to apply for separate affiliate status for KZNI. The process is well under way with KZNI functioning more on their own from the 1st of May 2022, and hopefully affiliate status to be approved at the CSA AGM in September. Finances Many of the tough decisions made in the recent past have put us in a position where we could navigate through the stormy waters of the past few financial years and get through it with the wind at our backs. The annual audit was once again conducted in an effective manner by PWC and they have expressed an opinion that the financial statements present our financial position fairly, in all material aspects. Our total revenue increased significantly due to the continued and enhanced support from our sponsorship family. Our total expenses were kept in check and aligned to our revenue streams. We managed to honour all our commitments timeously whilst also providing relief to certain of our loyal tenants and partners. We also continued to provide funding in line with the past to all our cricket stakeholders such as districts, clubs, and hubs even though the funding decreased from our national body.
I am very proud to announce that we have achieved a record profit which will be utilized wisely to ensure that we continue to grow our beautiful game. In terms of ensuring the sustainability of KZN Cricket we have managed to increase our investment portfolio to an amount that strengthens our financial position amongst the top 3 cricket affiliates in South Africa. Human resources Our main aim since the start of the pandemic was to look after all our employees. We not only managed to retain all our staff but also managed to create opportunities for growth. I would like to recognize all my staff for their continued efforts and support. A special word of thanks to the management team and especially my assistant and inhouse allrounder, Krystl Rangiah, who is now moving into her new role as Brand and Communications Manager. We bid farewell to Ray Dukhi and Horatius Sokhanyile who have both reached retirement age. We thank them for their loyal service over a combined period of more than 40 years and wish them well on the next phase of their respective journeys. Commercial Our sponsorship family once again played an integral part in ensuring that we could continue on our upwards curve. We had a substantial increase in sponsorship revenue and put various agreements in place that will

They also continue to give back in many different ways and it has certainly been rewarding to witness their incredible teams at work.
We have made Kingsmead more accessible to the pipeline and it certainly has been received very well by all who have had the opportunity to experience it.
Another special mention to the Department of Sport and Recreation. This body continues to play a significant role in ensuring that we make cricket accessible to all that want to be a part of it. Facilities Our home, the Hollywoodbets Kingsmead stadium, continues to evolve every year and whilst it is a very expensive asset to maintain it is pleasing to note that significant progress has been made towards making it more sustainable. We welcomed back test cricket in the form of Proteas vs Bangladesh, and other than the initial issue of the sightscreen LED boards
Whilst Kingsmead is in great shape the same cannot be said about most of the other cricket facilities in the province. There is a desperate need for intervention and a strategy to address the matter is currently being designed. Hollywoodbets Dolphins The new structure put in place by CSA had a severe impact on the depth of the Dolphins squad and it meant that we could not build on the successes of the previous seasons. The feeder system that consisted of the semi pro teams of KZN Coastal and KZN Inland were removed and that meant that about 24 of our players moved to other professional teams. Our main goal remains to produce champion players and in that goal we certainly succeeded. We had an incredible nine players that were part of Protea setups during the season, as well as various members of the support staff being called up for higher honours.
Keshav Maharaj cemented his place in all formats and broke various records on his way to claiming the man of the series award against Bangladesh, Keegan Petersen led the comeback against India, which saw him being announced as the man of the series for the India Test series, SJ Erwee scored a magnificent century to turn the tide in New Zealand and David Miller continued his dominance in the white ball formats which was well rewarded with a IPL gold medal. The Dolphins was the only unbeaten team in the four-day series, reached the final of the T20 knockout competition, the semi-finals of the CSA T20 challenge but unfortunately finished the season poorly at the bottom of the log in the One-day Cup and a combined 6th spot in the bigger picture. Hollywoodbets KZN Coastal Women For the first time KZN was represented by four of our ladies at the World Cup, where they performed exceptionally well, ending in an unfortunate loss in the semi-finals. Shabnim Ismail, Chloe Tryon and Trisha Chetty played an integral part in the team’s success. Our provincial team consolidated its spot in the top 6 and once again played competitive cricket throughout the season. Interest in the women’s game continues to grow, but unfortunately the growth is directly related to increased expenditure. A big focus going forward will be to get cricket schools to also make our beautiful sport available to its female learners.
Cricket Services The cricket services department was definitely hit the hardest by the pandemic as all amateur activities were put on hold for significant periods over the last two years. Our RPC/Hub development program and KFC Mini Cricket program were literally brought to a standstill, only resuming in January 2022. We then managed to host the Sunfoil DSR tournament with great excitement at Northwood. The general quality of cricket played by the 15 Hubs was understandably not at a high level when taken into consideration the lack of activities, but the passion and love for the game was wonderful to see. Schools cricket had its own challenges due to the pandemic but kudos to CSA who managed to host the U/18 boys’ and girls’ tournaments, as well as the U/16 boys’ and girls’ tournaments. Various KZN players were selected for the various boys’ and girls’ national teams. Club cricket was under severe pressure due to a combination of the pandemic, rain interruptions and the general decay of facilities. The support services such as umpires and scorers also came under increased scrutiny, and along with club cricket will be some of the main focus areas for the next season. The academy system had a more focused approach with a smaller intake. The importance of this program as a feeder was highlighted during the past season. The rural
teams continued to represent well at national level, with the newly formed KZN Inland team taking the spoils at the regional tournament. The various disability teams represented the province well at the respective national tournaments. These teams will be better supported going forward. Dolphins School of Excellence The emergence of the DSE was certainly one of the highlights of the year. It was launched in September and breathed life into the entire cricket eco-system by creating unique opportunities for all stakeholders. The concept is captured in the name as follows: Dolphins - the brand is central to the vision of an inclusive cricketing culture shared by all in KZN as the home of this beautiful game is located at Hollywoodbets Kingsmead Stadium. School - an institution for training and educating all cricket stakeholders in professional cricketing and life skills.
Excellence – the drive to impart knowledge and expertise at the highest level. In aiming to be the best facility for training and education the idea is to continuously add multidisciplinary services as the DSE expands and grows. The program is broken down into 10 different activities, the main activity being tournaments. During the past few months, the following people had the opportunity to be part of the tournaments: - 520 Players including: - 72 Hub Players - 52 Female players - 40 Head coaches from private academies, clubs, and schools - 40 Assistant coaches from the various hubs - 36 Umpires - 29 Scorers - 32 Ground staff - 43 Support services staff (LOC, DJ, Medics, Media, photographers)
Way forward Our mission for the 2022/23 financial year is to reset, revive and reconnect. Our cricket family have all experienced some form of loss, disappointment or disconnect during the past few years and we will aim to address this. We have set the wheels in motion with a new staff structure filled with passionate, capable individuals to go along with a performance management system. A big highlight for the upcoming season is the fact that Kingsmead’s first test match was played in 1923 and we will celebrate this icon’s century in existence. Finally, I raise my bat to those moments that will meet us in the future. May we all keep fighting the good fight, continue to create memories and when our final scorecard is tallied may it confirm that we have left our beautiful game in a better state than what we found it in. The team enjoyed a strong T20 season reaching the final of the CSA Provincial T20 Challenge in Septermber 2021 and the semi-final of the CSA T20 Challenge in March 2022. The team finished the CSA 4-Day series unbeaten with 6 draws and a win from their 7 matches. The team produced competitive cricket throughout the tournament and in many instances were left stranded in winning positions as weather has the final say.

KZN Cricket Union also ccessfully hosted 8 coaching courses, 11 regiional festivals and 11 regional seminars. We also bid ewell to KZN Cricket Union’s stalwart Horatius Sokhanyile. Horatius has been leading the KFC Mini cket programme in KZN for 18 years and retires with great pride knowing that he has brought mense value to cricket development in KZN and South Africa.

The highlight of the 2021/22 season was the return of fans in time for the South Africa vs Bangladesh Test match. The sound of cheers around the stadium and the buzz of kids playing their own match on the grass embankments stands out in our minds as much as Keshav Maharaj’s spectacular man of the match performance. It was especially pleasing to receive positive feedback from various stakeholders about the upgrades around the Stadium. 2023 will mark 100 years since the Stadium was opened. It promises to be an exciting year and we are immensely glad that we can celebrate this historic year with fans and the KZN Community.
The Hollywoodbets Dolphins brand continues to strengthen as the team and stadium have been well supported by the public and major stakeholders. We have enjoyed an eventful 2021/22 season. The return of fans remains our favourite memory from the 2021/22 season. While adhering to the safety regulations, we are pleased by the positive feedback received from many spectators in appreciation for the upgrades done around the Stadium, the atmosphere created during the matches especially at the Test and the all-round excitement to be able to enjoy live cricket once again. We have received an overwhelming positive response from other major stakeholders such as players, commentators, SuperSport crew, written press and various other officials in appreciation for the professional and warm hospitality during their visit to Hollywoodbets Kingsmead Stadium. The Hollywoodbets Dolphins brand is fast becoming one associated with honour, excellence and care. Fans are proud to be associated with a team that not only produces exciting cricket on the field but also produces match-winning Proteas. The team has also shown their natural warmth and passion for the community by assisting in various community uplifting projects throughout the year. These acts, both on and off the field, are making the Hollywoodbets Dolphins a standout brand and one that fans, partners and other stakeholders are proud to be associated with.
CSI INITIATIVES
BOWL OUT HUNGER Launched in 2020 to combat the crippling epidemic of hunger, Bowl Out Hunger continues to grow and have carried out two handovers in the last year. These handover of food hampers have helped those within the KZN Cricket family to recovery from the KZN civil unrest and floods.
BEYOND THE BOUNDARY In 2021, we teamed up with various partners to support a number of community upliftment projects which included: - Caring4Girls with Fourways Online - Hands of Hope with East Coast Radio and Sharks - Toy Story with East Coast Radio
