Welcome to The INFO DUMPSTER, where you can tell us about anything you want.
This month’s theme:
VINCENT VAN GOGH by @doodleteex
Van Gogh was a Dutch painter who lived from 1853 to 1890. He is known for his sunflower paintings, and Starry Night, of course.
The materials used for this portrait were colored pencil, gel pens, and paint markers.
MY FAVORITE QUOTE:
“What am I in the eyes of most people a nonentity, an eccentric, or an unpleasant person somebody who has no position in society and will never have; in short, the lowest of the low. All right, then — even if that were absolutely true, then I should one day like to show by my work what such an eccentric, such a nobody, has in his heart. That is my ambition, based less on resentment than on love in spite of everything, based more on a feeling of serenity than on passion. Though I am often in the depths of misery, there is still calmness, pure harmony and music inside me. I see paintings or drawings in the poorest cottages, in the dirtiest corners. And my mind is driven towards these things with an irresistible momentum.”

Topic of the Month: MATE CRIME
In our Burning Love issue of H0LL0W ZINE, we’re exploring all the different ways we experience love and affection. These are often confusing topics for neurodivergent folks, who face a unique set of challenges in identifying our emotions, navigating social relationships and processing social information. According to an 2015 Autism Together survey referenced by SpectrumLife Magazine, 100% of autistic individuals age 16 to 25 reported having a hard time distinguishing their true friends from their bullies.
WHAT IS MATE CRIME?
Because neurodivergent people have delayed emotional processing, they are susceptible to mate crime, which refers to being bullied or exploited by someone close to you. Examples might include getting a person to commit a crime, engage in risky sexual or substance use behaviors, lend or spend money on a person, give away their things, let others in their home to live or party, give rides, etc., or manipulating them in any way.

RISKS
We are more likely to trust and befriend new people because we generally have fewer close relationships than neurotypicals.
Executive functioning challenges make it harder to understand and regulate our emotions and impulses.
Delayed emotional processing often means that we don’t catch on until it’s too late.
We may agree to do things we are uncomfortable with because we don’t want to risk losing our friends.
Embarrassment and shame from being taken advantage of causes us to back away and self-isolate.
RESPONSES
Attend a support group for autistic people or seek online resources.
Seek legal help if necessary.
Consult with someone you trust before lending money or items to others.
Don’t let people into your home unless you know them well and can trust them.
Talk to a therapist.
Educate others and advocate for the rights of neurodivergent people.
