The Nile River Rainforest Train - Completed in December 2002, ‘The Nile River Rainforest Train’ recreated a bygone era where bush trams once prevailed. The Train provides visitors with a fantastic way to experience the spectacular wilderness landscapes of the Nile River Canyon in the South Island’s Paparoa National Park. Suited to everyone, old or young. Duration: Allow 1.5hrs return from the Charleston Base.

Departs: 9am & 11.30am Summer (Oct to Apr) & 10.00am Winter (May to Sep). Trips depart daily and are timed in conjunction with the scheduled Caving Adventures. Departure and return times may vary accordingly.

The Charleston Glowworm Cave Tour - A simply stunning Wilderness Eco-tour through the enormous Nile River Cave System deep in the Paparoa National Park. Your adventure will start at the Charleston Base where you will be equipped with a caving helmet and meet one of the passionate cave guides. A short drive will take you into the tranquil rainforest covered limestone valley to board the ‘Nile River Rainforest Train’. Here you start your journey into the Paparoa National Park exploring on of its highly protected and unique features – ancient cave systems, fragile cave formations, twinkling glowworms – hidden below lush rainforest, uniquely carved rock formations and impressive limestone cliffs. On your short walk to the cave, you will enjoy the tranquil beauty of the lush native bush, soak up the peaceful atmosphere and finally leave the river bed to gain amazing views upon the river below on your way to the cave entrance. Leaving daylight behind you will explore the enormous Nile River Caves System, seeing, feeling, and getting close to an ancient wonderland sculptured by water and decorated with fragile calcite formations. Underworld Rafting – This is a superb 4 hour Cave Rafting adventure in the enormous Nile River Cave System deep in the untamed natural wilderness of the Paparoa National Park. On this adventure you will meet your guide at the Underworld Adventure Center in Charleston, who will equip you with wet suits, wet suit socks, boots, gloves and helmets. Dressed ready for your adventure, a short drive and the Nile River Rainforest Train will take you into the stunning West Coast Rainforest with towering limestone cliffs that create a magical backdrop for your adventure. MONTEITH'S BREWING COMPANY

The Monteith's Brewing Company in Greymouth offers a fascinating brewery experience in the heart of Greymouth. Explore the traditions and heritage of the brewing establishment and taste their famous craft brews and modern food. The 45-minute guided tour shares the origins of Monteith's, head behind the scenes to see, touch, taste and smell the specialised ingredients and catch a glimpse of the brewers in action. Finally, everyone can achieve the 'perfect pour' at the Brewer’s Tap. The tour package includes vouchers and discounts for key activities on the West Coast and includes three tap beers at the Monteith’s bar. Air Safaris

The Grand Traverse is a unique flight that encompasses two World Heritage national parks - Aoraki/Mount Cook and Westland/Tai Poutini. This two hundred kilometre traverse offers the most comprehensive viewing of New Zealand’s most beautiful and spectacular alpine scenery.

Highlights include the turquoise-blue glacial lakes and braided river systems of the Mackenzie Basin, Murchison and Tasman Glaciers, Franz Josef and Fox Glaciers, and our two highest peaks Aoraki/Mount Cook and Mount Tasman. Shantytown

Located approximately 10kms south of Greymouth, Shantytown is a faithfully restored replica of an 1860's West Coast gold mining town. A living monument to the hardy pioneers who forded the wildly exotic rivers and streams and scrambled through the rugged subtropical rainforest in search of their fortunes. Steam power was at the heart of the West Coast's early development and Shantytown affords this time encapsulated experience to new generations of travellers via a short trip by Steam Train. All tickets to Shantytown include a ride on one of our two vintage steam trains, sluice gun demonstration (when available) and Holographic.

West Coast Wildlife Centre

This is the official home to the breeding and incubation program of the rowi kiwi. Found only in the Okarito Forest, near Franz Josef, the rowi is the world’s rarest kiwi with just over 375 surviving. Via high quality films and interactive displays, the centre also brings to life the stories and tales of people of the West Coast, from the rich history surrounding gold mining and hunting to the incredible evolution of the famous Franz Josef Glacier itself. Jump on board the Hanna-K and join us for a scenic cruise or fishing charter on Lake Mapourika, just minutes from Franz Josef Glacier. Lake Mapourika holds scenic views of the surrounding mountains and glaciers. Cruise along the mirror-like water and visit a kiwi sanctuary amidst some of Westland’s oldest untouched rainforest. Fox Glacier Guiding

Fox Glacier is the largest of the mighty West Coast glaciers and unique because it terminates in temperate rainforest 270m above sea level. A visit to Fox Glacier is an unforgettable experience. All necessary equipment is provided including ground transport, boots, socks, crampons, raincoat, walking poles and highly trained guides. Reporting time is 15 mins prior to departures.

Fox Glacier Helihike - (Flying Fox) - An awesome combination of helicopter flight and up to 3 hours exploring a remote part of the glacier with constantly changing pristine ice formations and caves.
