SELF DRIVE HOLIDAYS

If you are looking to discover New Zealand independently, then one of our self-drive touring holidays could be just for you. Our inclusive packages include your choice of vehicle, accommodation type, meals and sightseeing. All of our itineraries have been meticulously planned to produce balanced itineraries with manageable driving times, great accommodation and touring routes chosen for their scenic beauty.

Tailor Made Itineraries

The self-drive holidays featured on the following pages can be changed to suit your own personal requirements or we can come up with a customised itinerary for you if you prefer. Simply have your travel agent contact us with your specific requirements or let us suggest an itinerary for you based on your individual travel needs and interests.

ACCOMMODATION & SIGHTSEEING

There is a wide variety of accommodation available throughout New Zealand, from self-catering motels and apartments to hotels, boutique bed and breakfasts and luxury super lodges. All itineraries shown can be priced using your preferred style of accommodation. Our self-drive holidays also include many of the ‘must do’ activities and you are welcome to either add more or substitute them for other sightseeing attractions. We do recommend pre-booking these as much as possible, especially during the busy season (Nov-Mar), to avoid the disappointment of arriving at your destination to find that some excursions have been sold out and are not available.

Stress Free Driving

Driving around New Zealand is relatively easy by international standards. And ANZCRO make it even more stress free by including that little bit extra. Unlike many other companies, we have no hidden fees. We will arrange your rental vehicle on your behalf and the cost of your hire includes unlimited kilometres, full vehicle insurance (nil excess), airport and ferry pick up fees, additional driver fees and 24 hour emergency roadside assistance. All self-drive holidays have been priced using a mid-size rental car but larger vehicles including family sedans, MPV’s and 4WD’s are available upon request.

Drivers Licenses

A valid International or current National drivers license is required for all drivers and must be presented when you take delivery of your rental car. It must have been held for a minimum of 12 months and be written in English. The minimum age for drivers is 21 and an additional charge is applicable for drivers aged 21-24 years.

Some Handy Driving Hints

Here’s a few driving hints to make your self-drive even more enjoyable. Remember that driving is always on the left hand side of the road and you must not park on the right hand side of the street facing on-coming traffic, except in a one-way street. Always keep to the legal speed limits as indicated on the road signs.

The open road speed limit is 100km/h and the maximum in urban areas is 50km/h. Speed and distances are measured in kilometres and although distances may appear short, New Zealand roads often include hilly, narrow or winding terrain that might slow down your journey. And you must always wear your seatbelt, whether you are seated in the front or rear… and using your mobile phone whilst driving is both dangerous and illegal and you will find that this is very strictly enforced by traffic officers.
