oN-sITE uPDATES
Our Connecticut location hosted 639 participants through Family Camps, Adolescent and Young Adult and Bereavement Camps this spring. The launch of our programming in Maryland was a huge success, as we welcomed 59 participants from 17 families navigating ultra-rare diseases to our first two Camps. From a Parent and Caregiver Olympic Camp-itition to the beloved Stage Night, Camp was filled with joy, connection, and new memories, especially as brand new traditions began to take root on the Eastern Shore.
oUTREACH ACTIVITIES
The Family Outreach team has been hard at work, serving nearly 1,300 participants so far this year through 66 offerings. In March, parents and caregivers enjoyed an afternoon of creativity and camaraderie at our Connecticut location ‘Crafternoon’. Meanwhile, our Hospital Outreach team welcomed spring with a cherry blossom-themed Slime Day at Johns Hopkins Children’s Center in Baltimore and “Carnivarty” at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia. As of June, more than 16,000 healing HOP experiences have been shared with campers and families.
FAMILY CAMP SUCCESS IN mARYLAND
Our first Family Camps in Queenstown made one thing abundantly clear: while building a second campus has come with new challenges, creating joyful, safe and healing experiences for families is what Hole in the Wall knows how to do best. The strength of Camp’s decades of experience was evident everywhere, from seasoned volunteers and medical staff to thoughtfully adapted programming and activities and the start of new traditions.
Throughout each Camp, River House was filled with singing, dancing, laughter and connection. Families embraced every moment, from archery and arts & crafts to talent shows, caregiver gatherings and even spirited crab races along the Wye River. Thanks to an extraordinary staff and volunteer team, Camp came alive with magic from the very first day. It was just a glimpse into this new and spectacular location and the joy it will bring to so many in the coming years.
