Class of 1982 Scholarship

The Class of 1982 Endowed Scholarship Fund was established in 1988 with gifts from members of the Class of ’82, as well as from parents, grandparents, and friends.
Peter Coolidge ’82 and Miles Glascock ’82 P ’19 have been the driving forces behind the scholarship fund. Their families have supported the effort as well including Miles’ mother Elizabeth Glascock, who served as a school trustee from 1984 to 1993, and Peter’s grandfather, Albert H. Gordon, who contributed generously to the fund.
From the beginning, Peter and Miles believed that the scholarship would benefit not only the individual students receiving aid but also the school as a whole. In a December 1987 letter finalizing the creation of the scholarship with school officials, they wrote, “Diversity is the one thing that Holderness must stress if it is going to continue to compete to be the best school it can be.”
Peter ran cross country and track, was a Nordic skier, and won the Walter Alvin Frost Award, the Latin and Math Prizes, and the Harvard Book Prize. He was a house leader, the founder of the Investment Club, a member of Dial and Blue Key, and a Lifer. Peter attended Harvard College and received a MBA from Harvard in 1992. He is a hedge fund manager at Deltec Asset Management in New York, NY.
Peter and his wife Carrie were married by former Headmaster The Rev. Brinton W. Woodward Jr. in the Chapel of the Holy Cross at Holderness in 1998. He served as a trustee from 1992 to 2001 as well as a class agent, career mentor, reunion volunteer, and phonathon volunteer. He is currently a trustee of the Thomas Jefferson Foundation, which preserves and operates Monticello, the third president’s plantation home, in Charlottesville, VA, and a member of the Dean’s Advisory Council at The Radcliffe Institute for Advanced Study at Harvard University.
“What I remember most about Holderness is the people,” recalls Peter. “The students, faculty, and staff and the Headmaster are the reason my time at Holderness was so special.”
“Holderness is much the same now as it was when I attended—a very special place where values are instilled by example from the Headmaster, faculty, and staff,” he adds.
At Holderness Miles played soccer, hockey, and lacrosse, was a house leader, head of Blue Key, photo editor of the Dial, co-captain of the Polar Bear Club, a member of the Investment Club, and a Lifer. He graduated from the University of Denver with a degree in finance and is currently a Senior Advisor in JLL’s Healthcare Practice Group, a commercial real estate services company, in Miami, Florida. He has served as a Class Agent and Reunion volunteer.
“It is an honor for me to continue to help and support the school which provided me and my son, Spencer, with an unparalleled high school education and life experience,” says Miles. n
