AROUND IOWA DES MOINES

Fue un placer conocer y escuchar la música del Maestro Gabriel Espinosa y su grupo de Jazz Latino Ashanti en su presentación en el club Noce en Des Moines, IA. Gabriel Espinosa nació en Mérida, México, en 1952. Con la ayuda de su madre, comenzó a tocar la guitarra a la edad de seis años. En 1976, Gabriel asistió a Central College, en Pella, Iowa, donde recibió una licenciatura en música, seguido de Berklee College of Music en Boston, MA, donde recibió una licenciatura en arreglos y se graduó Magna Cum Laude en 1983. En su último año en Berklee, Gabriel formó el grupo Ashanti con su amigo y compañero de clase George Robert. En 1996, Gabriel regresó a Central College, donde se convirtió en Director de Estudios de Jazz, dirigió la banda de jazz, enseñó lecciones privadas de música y comenzó el exitoso programa de música Vocal Combos. It was a pleasure to meet and listen to the music of Maestro Gabriel Espinosa and his band Ashanti Latin Jazz group in their presentation at the Noce club in Des Moines, IA.

Gabriel Espinosa was born in Merida, Mexico, in 1952. With the help of his mother he began playing the guitar at the age of six. In 1976, Gabriel attended Central College where he received a BA in music followed by Berklee College of Music in Boston, MA, where he received a degree in arranging and graduated Magna Cum Laude in 1983. In his last year at Berklee, Gabriel formed the group Ashanti with friend and classmate George Robert. In 1996, Gabriel returned to Central College where he became Director of Jazz Studies, directed the jazz band, taught private music lessons, and started the very successful Vocal Combos music program. In 2004, Gabriel became the Director of the Latin American Ensemble at Grinnell College. With his return to Iowa also came the return of his band “Ashanti.”
