Obras de Rufino Tamayo y charla académica en el Figge Art Museum en Davenport Entre el 7 de julio y el 30 de diciembre de 2018, el Museo de Arte Figge en Davenport invita al público a ver las obras de Rufino Tamayo, que fue el primer pintor latinoamericano en recibir reconocimiento internacional. Su obra fue influenciada por el arte moderno, el imaginario precolombino y por su herencia zapoteca y se lo considera muy individualista. Incluye grabados, pinturas y esculturas. El Museo de Figge tendrá una colección de siete copias de Tamayo para que el público las vea.

Tamayo completó sus impresiones utilizando numerosas técnicas, que incluyen litografía, grabado, aguatinta y el proceso de Mixografía, que ayudó a desarrollar. Mixografia consiste en presionar una hoja de pulpa de papel húmeda sobre una placa metálica entintada que ha elevado las áreas de diseño. A medida que la placa entintada y la pulpa se comprimen juntas, el agua es expulsada y la pulpa se moldea a la superficie.

Las impresiones tienen cualidades esculturales que mejoran el color intenso incrustado en el papel.

Para acompañar la exploración de artistas mexicanos durante la exposición Rufino Tamayo, el museo ofrecerá una charla académica especial.

Scholar Talk, una conferencia impartida por la Dra. Mónica Bravo, será el jueves 9 de agosto de 6:30 p.m. a 7:30 p.m. La Dra. Bravo hablará sobre la fotografía modernista mexicana. El Dr. Bravo solía dar conferencias para la Historia del Arte y la Etnicidad. Raza y migración en el Departamento de Historia del Arte en la Universidad de Yale.

Actualmente, Dra. Bravo es Profesora Asistente en Historia y Teoría de los Medios Fotográficos en California College of Arts. Este evento es gratuito y se llevará a cabo en el Auditorio John Deere. Después de la conferencia, el público está invitado a ver la exposición Rufino Tamayo. La exposición estará abierta hasta las 9:00 PM del día de la conferencia.

Business Profile: Fetography Professional Imaging in downtown Moline

A professional photographers know how to utilize the equipment, natural light and other tools of the trade to make photos almost a work of art that begs to be hung on the wall and displayed for the whole world to see. Fetography Professional Imaging was established in October of 2010 and at first it was known as Fetography Portraits LLC. Rufino Tamayo works and Scholar Talk at the Figge Between July 7 and December 30, 2018 Figge’s Museum invites public for viewing of works of Rufino Tamayo, who was a first Latin American painter to receive international recognition. His work was influenced by modern art, pre-Colombian imaginary and by his Zapotec heritage and considered highly individualistic. It includes prints, paintings and sculptures.

Figge’s Museum will have grouping of seven Tamayo’s prints for public to view.

Tamayo completed his prints utilizing numerous techniques, including lithogra-

phy, etching, aquatint, and the Mixografia process—which he helped develop. Mixografia involves pressing a sheet of damp paper pulp onto an inked metal plate which has raised areas of design. As the inked plate and the pulp are compressed together, the water is squeezed out and the pulp is molded to the surface. The prints have sculptural qualities that enhance the rich color embedded into the paper.

To accompany the museums exploration of Mexican artists during the exhibition Rufino Tamayo the museum will offer a

special Scholar Talk.

Scholar Talk, a lecture given by Dr. Monica Bravo, will be on Thursday, August 9, from 6:30 PM to 7:30 PM. Dr. Bravo will talk about Mexican modernist photography. Dr. bravo used to give lectures for the History of Art and Ethnicity. Race and Migration at Department of History of Art in Yale University. Currently Dr. Bravo is an Assistant Professor in the History and Theory of Photographic Media at California College of Arts. This event is free to public and it will take place at John Deere Audito-

rium. After the lecture the public is invited to view the exhibition Rufino Tamayo. The exhibition will be open until 9:00 PM the day of lecture.

Mexican Modernist Photography Talk is on Thursday, August 9 from 6:30 PM to 7:30 PM at Figge Art Museum located at 225 W 2nd St., Davenport, IA. Currently the Figge Art Museum is offering free admission through August 12.

Ya sea que se trate de una discapacidad física o intelectual, las personas que viven con alguna de ellas y con un poco de ayuda de otros pueden llevar una vida productiva y exitosa. The Arc de Quad Cities puede ser de ayuda para personas con discapacidades.

Según Sarah Wright, Directora de Desarrollo y Comunicaciones para The Arc del área de Quad Cities, The Arc es la organización más grande en los Estados Unidos que sirve y aboga por personas con discapacidades intelectuales y físicas tales como síndrome de Down, autismo, trastornos del espectro alcohólico fetal, parálisis cerebral y otros. Whether it is physical or intellectual disability, people, who are living with either and with a little help from others can lead productive and successful life. The Arc of the Quad Cities Area can be that help for people with disabilities.

According Sarah Wright, Director of Development and Communications for The Arc of the Quad Cities Area, The Arc is the biggest organization in the United States that serves and advocates for people with intellectual and physical disabilities such as Down syndrome, autism, Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorders, cerebral palsy and

others. Nationwide there are 700 chapters and The Arc of the Quad Cities Are serves the Illinois side of the Quad Cities.

“The Arc provides direct services for people with disabilities and their families,” Ms. Wright explained. “We also advocate to promote and protect the human rights of people with disabilities and actively support their full inclusion and participation in the community throughout their lifetimes.”

The Arc was founded by a group of parents who wished to make sure that the rights of their children was recognized and that they would be encouraged to live their life independent from others. It was founded in 1952.

“Since that time, The Arc has grown in size and scope to become a leading ad-

vocate and comprehensive service provider for individuals with disabilities,” Ms. Wright stated. “We are proud of the accomplishment we have made to expand opportunities available to individuals with disabilities in the Quad Cities Area.”

The Arc helps people with disabilities to be productive and creative and reach their full potential in life. The Arc of the Quad Cities Area has a goal to empower people with disabilities and help them understand their abilities and find ways to use them to reach success in life. La Cumbre de Empresarios Inmigrantes (IES) está en proceso de expansión a diferentes lugares en todo el país. Como parte de esta expansión, IES finalmente vendrá a Illinois. The Immigrant Entrepreneurs Summit comes to Illinois

By Anastassia Zvoryguina Immigrant Entrepreneurs Summit (IES) is in the process of expanding to different locations across the country. As part of this expansion, IES is finally coming to Illinois.

Those interested to attend the first ever annual Illinois summit can plan on doing so on July 27 from 9:00 AM to 4:30 PM at the TaxSlayer Center on Moline.

The Immigrant Entrepreneurs Summit was founded in 2008 by Ying Sa, Principal Certified Public Accountant from Com-

munity CPA & Associates. According to their website the purpose of this organization is “to bring businesses of diverse backgrounds together to share, learn and celebrate the immigrant entrepreneurship experience and contribution to the overall community.” The Immigrant Entrepreneurs Summit has been very active in Iowa.

Many entrepreneurs and aspiring entrepreneurs attended and took advantage of the annual event in the past 11 years as well as many mini summits across the state.

In fact, according to the IES Remem-

ber Book about 1,206 new companies have been launched by the attendees of this Summit since it first started in 2008.

Between 2008 and 2017 as many as 909 entrepreneurs from 57 different countries have participated in the Iowa IES. Families United for a Strong Education in the Sauk Valley

By Anastassia Zvoryguina This program, offered through Sauk Valley Community College located in Dixon, IL, helps bilingual families in the area to meet their educational goals. F.U.S.E (Families United for a Strong Education) is a bilingual program intended for Hispanics who are learning English as a second language and who have children in 4th through 12th grade.

“F.U.S.E.’s goal is to assist families in set-

ting higher educational goals, improving their quality of life, and increasing communication between family members,” Ana Salgado, coordinator of cross cultural services who oversees this program, explained the purpose of this program. “The F.U.S.E. program provides sessions to assist families in overcoming barriers that limit their academic success” In order to help families F.U.S.E. offers information and such topics as the advantages of a postsecondary education, how to

plan for college and better communication among family members. This helpful program also offers information about available college and community resources.

“Parents are encouraged to attend ESL/ GED classes offered through Sauk Valley Community College and to become engaged in their children’s education,” Ms. Salgado said.

F.U.S.E. is not just any other program that helps college bound students. This program helps whole families to meet their

educational goals and that will translate in better lives for everyone.

El Quad Cities Ballet Folklórico organizará su Exposición de Verano 2018 el 11 de agosto en el Parque Schwiebert Riverfront en Rock Island, IL. El evento mostrará danzas tradicionales de México interpretadas por los estudiantes del Quad Cities Ballet Folklórico. La presentación comienza a las 7:00 PM, pero asegúrese de llegar temprano para encontrar un buen lugar en el césped. Mantas, sillas de jardín y refrigeradores son bienvenidos. The event will display traditional dances from Mexico performed by the students of the Quad Cities Ballet Folklorico. The performance starts at 7:00 PM but make sure to come early to find a good spot on the lawn. Blankets, lawn chairs, and coolers are welcomed. Alcoholic beverages are prohibited.

Honor 200 tiene como objetivo honrar a los Veteranos en la celebración del 200 aniversario de Illinois El Departamento de Asuntos de Veteranos de Illinois y el Comité Bi-Centenario de Illinois honrarán el trabajo de 200 veteranos de todo el estado de Illinois, cuyas contribuciones van más allá del deber, pues dedican su tiempo y energías para ayudar a sus compañeros veteranos y miembros del servicio. Honor 200 aims to feature Veterans at Illinois’ 200th Birthday Celebration The Illinois Department of Veterans’ Affairs and the Illinois BiCentennial Committee will honor the work of 200 veterans from across the State of Illinois, whose contributions are above and beyond the call of duty as they dedicate their time and energy to assist their fellow veterans and service members. Nominees are evaluated based on their achievements, and on the extent to which their contributions have aided, benefited and provided inspiration to their community at large.

In Addition, nominees must have received an honorable discharge from the U.S. military and reside in Illinois. This award has a very special meaning. It provides our state, as well as the Governor of Illinois, with an opportunity to showcase the value of community service as exemplified by our Illinois Veterans. Through their past experiences, they’ve embodied his virtue to the greatest extent.

Whether it be service to one’s country, one’s

family,friends,neighbors or community,the example set by our veterans illustrates how far individuals are willing to go, to help their fellow citizens. Both on and off the battlefield, veterans exemplify the meaning of selfless service, courage and compassion.

In this way, they are the exact role models we need in our communities!

Finales de Liga de fútbol de los QC July 15, 2018 East Moline, IL

Los campos de la ciudad de East Moline fueron la sede de las finales del torneo de apertura de la liga de fútbol de los Quad Cities.

Mientras que inmigrantes africanos le ayudaban a ganar la copa mundial al equipo nacional de Francia los inmigrantes Africanos aquí en los Quad Cities, del equipo Hard Target, ganaron el campeonato de la “Primera Especial” al vencer al San Nicolás.

En la final de “Primera A” la La Loma venció por la vía de penales al equipo Guanajuato.
