Myworkexploresthecomplexemotionsthatyoung relationshipsoftengothrough,fromfeelingsofsafety andlovetoidealizationandabandonment.Inoneofmy pieces,Iportrayedacoupletakingrefugeintheirsafe space.Usingcharcoalandsoftlighting,Iaimedtoconvey thewarmthoftheirintimateconnectionincontrastto thechaosoftheoutsideworld.
Ichosethismaterialforitssymbolicweight,influencedby theglorificationandidealizationpresentinmedievalstained glassart.Thisidealizedimage,framedwithinstainedglass, reflectshowweoftenromanticizeourpartnersduringthe earlystagesofarelationship.
Inmysecondpiece,Idepictedthefigureofaknight, whichposedasignificantchallengeduetothe proportionsandtexturesofthearmor.Thisknight appearswithinastainedglasswindowheldbyapairof hands,suggestingthattheimageisshapedbythe perceptionoftheviewer.
Finally,Iaddressedtheimpactofemotionalneglectthrough thefragmentedfigureofawoman,surroundedbyeveryday chaosanddisorder.InspiredbycubistartistslikeGeorges Braque,Iusedfragmentationtoexpresstheconflictingand simultaneousemotionssheexperiences:thepainofbeing ignoredandthedesiretokeeptheconnectionalive.
