WELCOME BACK! We have worked hard all summer to implement a battery of new protocols and facility improvements designed to create a safe and healthy environment. The foundation of these new protocols are three basic requirements: • Everyone must wear a mask indoors, unless they are in their own room or suite, and outdoors, when they can’t maintain six feet of physical distance from others. • Everyone must maintain a distance of at least six feet from others as much as possible. • Everyone must complete a daily online health screening before coming to campus or going to class. We expect every member of the Hofstra Pride to respect themselves and others by following these health and safety protocols. Life will be different, but we know that we can count on everyone to do their part. Together, we will meet this extraordinary moment and remain #HofstraStrong.

CONTACT TRACING 101 What is contact tracing? Contact tracing is a process run by the Department of Health. At Hofstra, we work with the Nassau County Department of Health. Contact tracing is the process of contacting all people whoâ€™ve had close contact with someone who tested positive for COVID-19. Notifying people who have been exposed so they can quarantine is an important tool for controlling the spread of the virus.

What is close contact? Close contact is defined as spending at least 15 minutes at a distance of less than six feet with someone who has tested positive for the virus.

What happens during contact tracing? A contact tracer trained by the New York State Department of Health will call the person who tested positive and interview them about everyone with whom the patient has recently been in close contact. Then, the contact tracer will contact those people and help them get tested for COVID-19. All information is kept confidential; the contact tracers do not share the name of the person who tested positive with any of the close contacts they notify. Contact tracers will never ask you for financial information, a social security or credit card number.

How will contact tracing work at Hofstra? If a student living on campus tests positive for COVID-19: • The student is immediately isolated (either off-campus or in campus housing set aside for this purpose) and, as per CDC guidelines, will only discontinue isolation under the following conditions: • At least 10 days have passed since symptom onset and • At least 24 hours have passed since resolution of fever without the use of fever-reducing medications and • Other symptoms have improved. • For persons who never develop symptoms, isolation and other precautions can be discontinued 10 days after the date of their first positive RT-PCR test for SARS-CoV-2 RNA. • In coordination with the Department of Health, the University Student Health Center will notify their roommates and suitemates to determine if they have been in close contact, and if so they will be quarantined for 14 days. Students will be encouraged to quarantine at home if possible and continue taking classes remotely. • The Nassau County Health Department will work with the students involved to notify all other people, including faculty, staff, and other students, deemed to have had close contact, as appropriate. • Unless students choose to do so, health information should not be shared publicly with others.

What if I was in close contact with people at a party with underage drinking, or where people were not wearing masks? If I tell you about it for contact tracing, will my friends and I get into trouble? The health and safety of every student at Hofstra is our top priority, including full cooperation with contact tracing. Students will not be subject to the University’s code of conduct for disclosing violations of alcohol and/or drug use policies, or of mask-wearing policies, during the contact tracing process. 7

CAMPUS LIFE AND ACTIVITIES

Campus life and activities will be different, but we are providing lots of new, outdoor activities, as well as areas where students can spend time together safely. • We will erect tents on North and South campus so students can socialize and study safely. In some areas on South campus, there will be enhanced outdoor Wi-Fi. • We will offer fitness classes in the Pride Pavilion next to the Student Center, and on the fields near the Fitness Center. • We will have a large, outdoor movie screen installed on the back Intramural Fields for movie nights and televised events, such as concerts, presidential debates, and election night.

DINING on CAMPUS Campus dining services have been re-imagined in several ways to ensure health and safety, including reducing seating, more grab-and-go options, use of only plastic utensils, and plexiglass barriers to separate servers from customers, at all cash registers and at some dining tables. There will also be additional ordering kiosks in the Student Center. In addition, Compass Group, our food service vendor, has implemented the Boost e-wallet app, which can be used at several dining locations to pre-order and pay online. The Boost Mobile Food Ordering App (which can be downloaded on your smartphone), can be set up to use the Hofstra meal card declining balance, as well as credit and debit cards. Compass Group has also instituted strict health and safety protocols that include daily wellness and temperature checks for all employees, as well as requiring all employees to wear masks and gloves at all times, and to wash their hands and change their gloves at least every 15 minutes. Some dining locations will be closed for the fall semester, including Au Bon Pain Express (Axinn Library), Einsteinâ€™s Bagels (C.V. Starr Hall), Cyber CafĂŠ, and the University Club. Most dining facilities will open with a limited schedule on August 17. Below is the general fall 2020 schedule for campus dining locations beginning, Sunday, August 23.
