PresidentClaire:StudentAthleticAdvisoryCommitteeisgearedtowards makingcollegefunandcreatingcommunity,morale,andcomraderyfor studentathletes.Someteamspractice40hoursaweek,andontopofthat theyhavetheirclassloadandanyotherextracurriculars.Wewanttomake surestudentshavethingsotherthansportstoenjoy.Wehavefundraisers, spikeballandpickleballtournaments,andmore.Usually,themoneygoes towardsotherSAACevents,orwedonatetocharity.Wehavetoget4,000 communityservicehourswithinourorganization,andwehaveeventslike PieyourCoachandBeachcleanup.Weshowuptoeachother'sgames, called“PrideCup,”tomakesureweareallsupported.Wehaveawardsat theendofeachyeartoencourageparticipation.

ii. SecretaryJackson:Ofcourse,moraleisabigpart,butIliketothinkthat wearetheSGAfortheathletes.Weadvocateforthem.Allschoolshavea SAACfortheirathleticteams.Athletesbringconcernstous,maybecoach issueorplayingtimes,andwehelpgetthingsdone.

1. PresidentClaire:Wereallywantpeopletocomeouttoourgames. Weknowwearen’tabigsportschoolcomparedtosomebigger ones,butwewanttostartbuildingpartnershipsandthemedevents

toencouragestudentstosupportourteams.Weputinalotofwork andwanttosharethat!

iv. ChairQuail:Whatisthebiggeststruggleforyouasastudentathlete? Whatisthebestpart?

1. PresidentClaire:Iwouldsaytimemanagement.Istruggledmy freshmanyear,asastarterwhohadtomissalotofclassesformy sport.Luckily,wehavegreatadvisorswhohelpusworkwith professorsandpickamanagementworkload.Thebestisthe events,Ilovedourtalentshow.

2. SecretaryJackson:Ithinksometimescertaincoacheswantusto prioritizeoursportsoverschool,whichisn’talwaysfairbecause wearestudentsfirst.Thebestpart,though,isthepeopleand teammates.

v ChairDiSanto:Whatotherresourcesdoyouthinkyouguyswouldneed? Liketutoring,forexample?

1. PresidentClaire:Ithinkweareprettyokay Wehaveanathlete studentswhosignuptotutorotherathletes.Kyndall,forexample, isatutor

2. SecretaryJackson:Yes,Iamatutor Andtheideaoftheathlete-ran tutoringprogramisgreat,butthereisn’talwaysatutorforspecific subjects.Isigneduptobeaphysicstutor,andendeduptutoring foranatomy,whichisn’tsomethingIfeelcomfortabledoing.I thinkexpandingthoseresourceswouldbegreat.

vi. SenatorYari:Howdoyouguyspreventburnout?

1. PresidentClaire:Thatismainlywhatthestudent-athlete psychologistisfor.Weareevenlookingtoaddanother psychologist.Coachesaregoodresourcestoo.AgoalofSAACis thatwehelpcreateoutletsforthisstress.

2. SecretaryJackson:IknowformeIhaveworkedthroughburnout bynotonlythesupportofmyteammates,butalsobyfinding friendshipsoutsideofathletics.Iseethemamajorityofthetime, soitisnicetohavenon-sportpeopletospendmyfreetimewith.

vii. SenatorPeri:Howcanwehelpintroduceathletestoclubs?

1. SecretaryJackson:Ipersonallyhavemissedeveryclubfair becauseofsports.Maybehostingaseparate,maybesmaller,club fairatatimemoreapplicableforathleticschedules.Ithinkathletes tendtostayintheirownbubble,sooutreachinadifferentway maybehelpful.

2. PresidentClaire:Ithinkalinktreecouldbehelpful.Thatcould allowthemtoexploreclubsontheirowntime.

viii. ChairDanek:Doprofessorsdowellataccommodatingyourschedule?

1. PresidentClaire:Ionlyhadoneissue,butIdothinkthatIwas lackingincommunication.Idoalsothinkitdependsonthemajor, assomeprofessors/majorsaremoreaccommodating.Ithink communicationiskey,andgettingyourscheduletothemassoon aspossible.

2. SecretaryJackson:Ipersonallyhavebeenokay,butIknowfriends whostruggle.Ithinkthatiswhereathleticadvisorscomeintoplay, andcanbereallyhelpful,atpickingclassesandprofessorsthat havebeenaccommodatinginthepast.

ix. SenatorCallahan:WhatcanSGAhelpdotobridgethegapbetween studentsandathletes?

1. PresidentClaire:Ithinkthismeetingasawholeisagreatplan. ThisisthefirsttimeSAAChasbeenatSenate,andSGAcameto SAACafewweeksagoforthefirsttime.Settingthisfoundation nowisimportant.

2. SecretaryJackson:Iagree,itisdefinitelyimportanttolaythe foundationandkeepthecommunication.Itisnotjustwhatyoucan dotous,butalsowhatwecandotoyou.Itcanbemutually beneficial.

x. SenatorRades:

1. PresidentClaire:Yes.Atthebeginningofeveryyear,wehave studentathletesfollowSAACtostayuptodate.Maybeweshould extendthattohavethemfollowtheSGAaccount.Wewouldlove toconnectwithyourcommunicationschairifpossible.

xi. SenatorFinklestein:Doyouthinkitwouldbeagoodideatohavean athleticnewsletterwitheventsoutsideofathletics?

1. PresidentClaire:Ithinkitwould.Wehaveaweeklyoneforour games,butaddingSGAeventscouldbegoodtoo.

xii. SenatorYari:Isthereanyspecificeventyouwouldliketohostin collaborationwithSGA?

1. PresidentClaire:Westartedaspikeballtournamentinthefall. Thisisourfirsttimetryingthesecompetitions,sowekeptitto athletes,butwewouldlovetoexpandtheoutreachonthat.

xiii. VPJoyal:Doesbeingastudentathletelimityouropportunitiestomake income/pursuestudentjobsoncampus?

1. SecretaryJackson:Icurrentlyworkatthedaycare,butIhaven’t beenabletoworkthereuntilthissemesterasaseniorwithamore flexibleschedule.Ijusthavetoschedulearoundpractices,which

doeslimitthehourswecanworkingeneral.Wetrytosaveover thesummer.

xiv. VPJoyal:Arethereanyaspectsthatcanbeseeatotherschoolsthatyou thinkwouldbenefitstudentathletesherethatSGAandHofstracanwork toincorporatehere?

1. SecretaryJackson:Wedothingslikerafflesorrandomseat winnersatthebasketballgames,butIthinkthiscouldgofurther. Wedoour“PrideCups”wherestudentathletescangetpointsand receiveanaward.Atotherschools,theyhaveascanningsystem whichcountsyourattendanceateachgame.Attheendofthe semester,whoeverwenttothemosteventswouldwinaprizelike airpodsoralaptop.

1. PresidentClaire:Idefinitelythinkso.Somanypeopledo communityserviceandcometooureventsjusttogetthosepride cuppoints.Iamsureifwedidalarge-scaleeventwithSGA, peoplewouldlovetoattend.Itisverylaxinthesetupandscaling.

5. ComptrollerGreenlaw:Frompersonalexperience,wehaveseena lotofpoliciesthataren’tworkedthroughcompletely,andit becomesabigmessastheyearsgoon.Itneedstimetofizzleand developintowhatitcanbe.Itneedsmoretime,andshouldn’tbe putintopolicywithexpectationtochangeitinthefuture.

11. SenatorSubramanian:Ithinkthatthereisgeneralconsensusthat everyonewantstohavemoreinvolvement.Thisisproofthat everyonecouldbenefitfromaprojectlikethisthatisstructured, butalsocollaborative.

12.ChairDanek:Iwrotethistostandardizeexpectationsfornew senatorsandoutlinetheirroleinSenate.Ithinkitbenefitsthose interested,aswellasthosewhoaremoretimidtogetinvolved.It isimportanttosetthebasisforsomethingnew.

13.ComptrollerGreenlaw:Ijustthinkitneedssometimetobe refined.Overthesummer,nextSeptember,andanytimein between.Itneedstobeironedout,notjusthopethatitwillhappen andtweakitlater.Refiningisinitsbestinterest.

14.SecretaryEgolf:Wehaveseenthingsgettingaddedprematurelyor addedinaccordancewithaspecificsenate/goal.Therehavebeen 88senatesbeforeours,anditmaytakeafewyearsbeforewe figureoutwhatthisprojectshouldlooklike.Maybe,itisan activityduringSenateRetreatinsteadofamonth-longordeal. Moretodiscuss.

15.ChairDiSanto:Ifsomethingisn’tfullyfleshedoutinthepolicy series,itcansometimesdomoreharmthangood.Itworkedthis

year,butweneedmoretrialstoseeifitwillwork.Itcouldcause moreissuesdowntheroad.

19.ComptrollerGreenlaw:WeneedtomakeideasinSenate,then proposeit.Thisshouldbefleshedoutpriortosenate,andmerely discussedandvotedon.Thisneedstobediscussedoutsideof senate.

20.SecretaryEgolf:Speakingofcab,wehadmanyissueswiththison thesmallerbasisjustbetweenthe12cabmembers.Wedidn’t knowhowtovoteforawinner,whetherthereshouldbeawinner, whetherthegroupsshouldactuallypursue,andmore.Wetalked aboutitforhours,andcouldnotcomeupwithanyrealanswers. Moreneedstobesaidandthoughtthrough.
