2. PresidentofChavaya:Ithinkitisgoodtohavediversityandpride forwheretheycamefrom.Peopleshouldmakethemostoutof theircollegeexperience.
3. SenatorFinkelstein:Itisimportantforpeopletohaveasenseof belonging,butalsoaplacetotalkandrelatetowhoyouareand yourreligion.
4. VPofHillel:Hillelismorethanafaithbasedorganization.Itis community,friendship,andfamily.Ithasbeenawaytoconnect andcreatememories.
5. SecretaryofHillel:Representationandcommunityissoimportant.
6. PresidentofNewman:Whenweallcometocollege,wearetrying tofindwhoweareandwhoweidentifywith.Theseorgshelp makethatpossible,whetheryourelatetotheethicsbehindthefaith ordedicateyourlifetoit.
v. VPJoyal: Is there anything that you guys are facing currently or in the past that you are struggling with and need further help with?
1. PresidentofNewman:Tostart,SGAhasbeenreallygreattoour organization.Postcovid,thisorganizationwasbrokendown,and SGAhelpedwiththerebuildingofthat.OnethingIwouldliketo seeistopossiblygetatabernacleoncampusforstudentstoprayto throughouttheday WearealreadyblessedtobeabletohostMass.
2. VPofHillel:IalsowanttothankSGA.Youallhavebeenso helpfulwitheverythingwehavebeengoingthrough.Eversince theRSRboothshavebeenremoved,orthodoxstudentshavefelt uncomfortablelivingoncampus.Itisheartbreakingthatstudents cannotobservetheirreligion,specificallyduringShabbat.Swipe accessmakesthisincrediblydifficult,aswecannotuseelectricity ortechnology.WewouldlovetohaveoneoftheC-Square buildingsconvertedtoaJewish,Shabbatlivingspacewith key-onlyaccess.Thisalsoeliminatescookingissueswemay experienceinthedorms.Ithinkthiscouldpromotealotofgrowth, andevenhelpenrollment.
3. SenatorFinkelstein:WehaveourreligiouscommitmentsonFriday andSundays,andthishaslimiteduswithevents.
4. PresidentofChavaya:Ithinkitisastrongpoint,regardingthe livingcommunity.Somestudentsfeelliketheycannotleavetheir roombecausetheyaren’tsuretheywillbeabletogetbackin. TherearealotofJewishholidays,andwhileweunderstandwe can’tcancelclassaltogether,Ithinkitwouldbegreatfor professorstoplanaheadandnotscheduleexamsonthosereligious holidays.
vi. VPJoyal:SinceLogan,whoisapartofSGAaswellasyourorganization, hasmentionedthelackofkosheranddietaryreligiousoptionsavailableat events…
1. VPofHillel:Ithinkeveryonehasbeentryingveryhardto accommodateeveryone,anditishardtodo.ThedistrictPicklehas
averylimitedtimeavailabilityandamenu.Itgetsdulleating Kosheroncampus,despiteefforts.Ithinkadairy-kosherkitchen wouldbegreat,thoughexpensive.However,Ihaveproposedthat wecouldmakeaKosherDunkin,astherearemultipleeateriesthat offersimilarfooditemsforotherstudents,butthiswouldopena greatervarietyforJewishstudents.Akosherrestaurantwilldo wellregardlessifitislabeledasso.Ialsowishthattherewasan optiontoboostitemsfromtheDistrictPickle.
2. SecretaryofHillel:Forevents,Ithinkitwouldbebeneficialfor RSVPeventstohaveaspotfordietaryrestrictions.
3. HillelMember:AssomeonewhodoesnotkeepKosherbuthas otherdietaryrestrictions,oftentimesmealoptionsarelimitedand donotcounterthat.
4. PresidentofNewman:Theonlydietaryrestrictionswehaveare duringlent,wherewecan’teatmeatonFridays.Thereareluckily plentyofnon-meatoptionsforus,thankfully

1. VPofHillel:Itwasnotanidealsysteminthepast,either,butthere wasaway WhentherewereRSRs,wecouldknockonthewindow andhavetheRSRletthemintopreventthemfromusing electronics.Somecouldarguethatthisisn’teventechnically allowedinthereligion.Eveniftheyonlywantittobeaturnkey forafewhours.

1. TreasurerofChavaya:IthinktalkingtoRabbiDaveandbeing respectfulwhenwesharedetailsaboutusorourreligion.Just listenwhenpeoplesharethingswithyou.BeingJewishishard nowadays,andIoftenfeellikeIhavetohide.Beingrespectfulis superimportant.

3. PresidentofNewman:Ijustwanttomakesurestudentsknow whereweare,andwheretheofficesare.Ifweknowthatwearea resource,thatisthemostwecanask. Ifwecanspecifically mentiontheseorgsbutname,itmightmakeanimpact.

xi. ChairYoung:Iwaswonderingthepreexistingquestionsandsolutionsto theprayerroomissues?
1. PresidentofNewman:Wehave3“sterile”prayerspaces,where anyonecantransformtouseforabitoftime,aslongastheyclean thespaceandleaveitas“sterile”asitwaswhenyoufoundit. Theyaren’tusedawholelot,especiallybyCatholicorChristian students.Itisreallydifficulttodecidewhattodo.Keepingit sterilemakesitaccessibleforallstudentsandreligions.But,the lackofpermanentspaceandreligioustextsordecormakesitfeel lesswelcomingandlesspowerful.Havingaspacededicatedto yourownexperiencecanelevateyourprayer
2. VPofHillel:Wehavefoundveryoftenthatwhenthelightsinthe prayerroomareoffwhenwecannotturnthelightonourselves,the spaceisvirtuallyuselesstous.Wecannotutilizeitforprayer.I thinkitwouldbeevenastepintherightdirectiontomerelykeep thelightson.
xii. SenatorRades:WhenIpray,Idon’tthinkaboutthespace,personally.Do youthinkitwouldbehelpfulfortheretobealargerroomthatissplitup intodifferentsectionsforeachreligiontomakethespacewhattheywant? Aspacethatanyonecouldgotoatanytimetofeelthatstateofreverence andpeace.Doyouthinkitcouldberealisticorisitdistractingwhenit comestoprayer?

2. VPofHillel:Ithinkitwouldbeverydistracting,personally.We cannotprayifotherreligionsaredoingthesame…Itisdistracting mentallybutalsogivesasenseofreligiousguilt.
3. SenatorFinkelstein:Jewishpeoplecannotenterotherplacesof worship,sohavingaspacethatisactingassuchwouldpreventus fromentering.
xiii. SenatorIacobovici:Oneofyouraisedapointofhowitissometimesscary torepresentyourreligiononcampus.IsthereanythingthatSGAorallof ourorganizationsasawholecoulddotoeducatemorepeopleonreligion andincreaseawareness?
1. TreasurerofChavaya:Idon’tthinkthereisanythingthatcanbe done.Itisjustkindathesituation,itisjusthowitis.Itcanbe intimidating,butrealisticallythereisnothingthatcanbedone.

3. VPofHillel:Weareveryluckyonthiscampus,asothercampuses areworseoff.Ithinkifwedidsomething,itwouldactuallycreate moreofanissue.Theissueisoutsideofcampus,culturally

PresidentofNewman:Thereareonlyafewtimesinthecatholic “calendar”thatitisaclear,visiblesignofourfaith.Ithinkit wouldbebeneficialtohighlighttheseholidays,educatestudents aboutthepurposeorreasoningbehindthem.AshWednesday,for example,manypeoplemayquestionwhystudentsarewalking aroundwithdirtontheirforehead,andwhetheritinspiresthem religiouslyornot,itcangivebackgroundtotheirclassmatesand whattheyareseeingoncampus.

2. VPofHillel:Oureducationeventsareopentoallstudents.Some evenhaveastipendtoencourageattendancetotheFellowships.I lovetheideaaboutacollaborativeeventwithalloftheinterfaith officestogethertogettoknowusandourreligions.

4. PresidentofNewman:Ifeelliketherearealotofopportunitiesfor ourclubtomakethatinitialcontact.Wetableatadmittedstudents day,andotherclubfairs.
5. PresidentofChavaya:Ilovethatidea,assomeonewhohasfriends withpeopleofdifferentreligions,wehavefuneducatingeach other.Itwouldbenicetobuildthatamongthecommunity.
6. TreasurerofChavaya:We’reaprettyneweventoncampus,and wearealreadyhostingeventsthatareeducational,whichcanbean opportunityforthoseinthereligionandoutside.
