Committees (continued) Spirit: The Spirit Committee works with the Athletics Department, the Office of Student Leadership and Engagement, the Greek community, and clubs and organizations on campus to promote spirit and pride among Hofstra students. The Spirit Committee coordinates SGA's involvement with campus events such as Fall Festival, Hofstra Celebrates the Holidays, and PRIDE Unleashed Week.

Student Services: The Student Services Committee investigates and acts on academic and non-academic concerns expressed by any Hofstra student in an effort to improve the student experience on campus. This committee is responsible for making positive changes on campus.

Committees

What is SGA? The Student Government Association (SGA) is Hofstra University’s student-run governing body.

Composed of undergraduate students, SGA acts as a liaison between the student body and University faculty, administration, and Board of Trustees. SGA has three branches: the Senate, the Cabinet, and the Judicial Panel. Members of these branches are elected by the student body.

SGA plans and executes programs and initiatives throughout the academic year. Members oversee more than 200 clubs and organizations on campus and their finances.

The Judicial Panel acts as the “checks and balances” for SGA and ensures that legislation is fair and funds are allocated appropriately.

Within the Senate, members sit on one of six committees: Appropriations, Club Relations, Public Relations, Rules, Spirit, and Student Services.

The Cabinet is made up of the chairs of these committees, along with the president, vice president, secretary, and comptroller.

Appropriations: The Student Government Association receives a portion of the Student Activities Fee paid by full-time undergraduate students each semester. It is the job of the Appropriations Committee to allocate those funds to clubs and organizations fairly.

Club Relations: Club Relations looks to make sure that clubs are informed of SGA policies.

The committee's overall mission is to support clubs, helping them to grow and flourish from year to year within the Hofstra community.

Public Relations: The Public Relations Committee's mission is to ensure accurate and consistent coverage of all SGA actions and events.

The committee aims to provide a transparent link between the University and SGA. The PR Committee also publicizes club events.

Rules: The Rules Committee is responsible for maintaining all active club constitutions and archiving all club constitutions, including those of clubs that have become inactive.

The Rules Committee also reviews legislation, referendums, and resolutions before they are presented to the full Senate. continued
