Gone are the days of peanuts and Cracker Jack, as the variety of foods offered at Major League Baseball stadiums continues to expand and improve. While hot dogs and beer are still seen as most fans’ classic fare, baseball lovers/foodies can look forward to higher-end meals, often with an array of international options, at the stadium. Here’s a look at some of what can be found.
Yankee Stadium, home of the New York Yankees, features more than 50 restaurants and is ranked first among stadiums as most expensive. One recent addition to the stadium offers fans an unusual dining option — sushi. Benihana, a hibachi-style Japanese restaurant, operates in Section 127, and its menu will become larger this year.
The most notable restaurant at Yankee Stadium that screams luxury is NYY Steak, a baseball-themed steakhouse donning the colors of the Yankees. It is a full sit-down restaurant that offers fancy entrees, drinks and desserts for fans to enjoy before the game. This upscale spot has received rave reviews, earning four stars on Yelp, and is known for high-quality and delicious steaks.
Baseball games are typically viewed as American, and the food options are usually lacking in diversity. The Seattle Mariners’ home field, T-Mobile Park, does not adhere to the traditionally American concession stand offerings. Arguably the most unusual option comes from Edgar’s Cantina, a Mexican eatery with a great view of the field. There, fans can find chapulines, or toasted grasshoppers. They are a common snack in Mexico, and the Mariners introduced them as a novelty to their stadium in 2017.
Target Field, home of the Minnesota Twins, is another stadium that is commended for its wide variety of foods. A noteworthy eatery at Target Field is Hot Indian Foods, a local brand that began as a food truck before entering the stadium. The chicken tikka and chana masala have gained a fanbase for their flavors, as well as their warmth, as the stadium is often cold.
Whether a beloved team wins or loses, fans are sure to triumph with the riveting food options offered at MLB stadiums. As the 2022 season kicks off, be sure to visit one near you to enjoy the many restaurants that are now up and running.
