Somewhere Between African and African American – Journeying Into My Blackness

Mukoma Wa Ngugi’s central argument is that while interpersonal, political, and cultural solidarity has always been historically present, the relationship between Africans and African Americans is also mediated by each seeing the other through the lens of double consciousness. He makes the argument for a larger global Blackness consciousness.

About the Author

Mukoma Wa Ngugi is the author of The Rise of the African Novel: Politics of Language, Identity and Ownership; the novels Mrs. Shaw, Black Star Nairobi, Nairobi Heat, and Unbury Our Dead With Song (a story about competing Tizita musicians); and two books of poetry, Logotherapy and Hurling Words at Consciousness.
