There will also be a presentation by Dr. Andrew Spieldenner, assistant professor of rhetoric at The Lawrence Herbert School of Communication. There will also be desserts! Join The Pride Network for its annual drag show featuring professional and student performers who dress as members of the opposite sex and put on a show for the Hofstra community.

The LGBTQIA Heritage Month Reception will feature Hofstra alumnus Micah Jesse as the keynote speaker. Micah is an entertainment/pop culture expert who has co-hosted Music Choice network’s on-demand show Certified and is now the host of his own live talk show, U&A. National Coming Out/Jeans Day

Reel Ireland Film Series and LGBTQIA Heritage Month: Breakfast on Pluto

Wednesday, October 8 • 11:15 a.m.-12:40 p.m. Atrium, Mack Student Center, North Campus Please join the Office of Student Leadership and Activities in celebrating National Coming Out Day by wearing jeans to collectively show our support for the LGBTQIA community. Jeans Day began at Rutgers University in 1974 as a way to promote equal rights for gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender, queer and questioning individuals. Members of the Hofstra community dressed in professional attire may pick up a jean patch that can be worn to show your support.

246 East Library Wing, Axinn Library, South Campus Directed by Neil Jordan, based on the Patrick McCabe novel, and starring Cillian Murphy and Stephen Rea, the film focuses on the life journey of a transgender woman and explores the relationship between identity, violence and exclusion. The discussion will be facilitated by Hofstra Professors Maggie Burke and Greg Maney.
