The Network Self & Personal Identity

“networked self” = self is embedded in relations with other people

⇓ identities as related, e.g., “friend” “sibling” “student” “English Speaker”

Extend the Network Idea

“Network Self” = self is a network or system of networks: social, physical, familial “Personal Identity Problem” Add and lose identities over time ⇒ Am I the same person over time? Many identities are “the same” as those of others ⇒ What makes me unique? Many influences ⇒ Can I be autonomous, that is, self-determining?
