About the Playwright: Hi! My name is Julie Spector (though most of you know me as Julie Smith). I am a senior English and Drama major at Hofstra University. While I will continue writing, I will study next year at Atlantic Acting School. Some non-theatre things that I’m passionate about include social justice, iced coffee, avocados, dogs of varying sizes, and many genres of music. Headshot by Shani Hadjian Photography
What you are about to see is a H ofstra University Department H onors Candidacy Project. It is the product of about five months of writing, fifteen drafts, an extremely emotionally generous cast and crew, and endless support from Professors Erik Brogger (Advisor) and Chris Dippel (Second Reader). I am immensely grateful as well to Gavin Petersen, our director, and Molly Guinen, our stage manager. This staged reading is also brought to you by Spectrum Players, an organization that has helped me to grow tremendously throughout my time at Hofstra.
Let me know your thoughts! Writing and delving into Phoebe’s world has been an incredibly emotional but deeply rewarding process. This play is as “finished” as it can be for a Zoom staged reading, but this reading will be instrumental in gathering feedback to ensure the play’s future success. There will be a Google Form where you can submit anonymous feedback. You can also stay after the show for a few minutes to say hi! For the best possible viewing experience, under “view” click “gallery.” Next, under your own Zoom box, click the three dots and then “hide non-video participants.”
Thank you for coming! Much love to my family, friends, and professors who have supported me over the years. We hope you enjoy Sweet Little Girl and all of our hard work. ~Julie
