DIVISION

OF STUDENT ENROLLMENT, ENGAGEMENT, AND SUCCESS

Check List Prior to Participating in the Homesteading Process

• Complete and Submit an updated housing application for Fall 2025.

• Create my roommate group if living in a multi - occupancy room.

• Ensure my requested roommate has submitted their application and accepted my roommate request.

• Log back into my housing application when the homesteading process begins to homestead my space.

Can my room be HOMESTEAD?

• Current students living on campus during the Spring semester are eligible to HOMESTEAD the space in their room for the next academic year with the exception of students residing in:

• First-Year only buildings : Netherlands Complex and Stuyvesant Hall.

• Rooms designated for First -Year students in the High rise buildings .

• Rooms and/or buildings that cannot be homestead due to scheduled renovation/capacity changes or other reasons as outlined by the Office of Residence Life.

• Students are notified in advance via email from the Office of Residence Life if their current room is not eligible to be homestead.

Will Residents automatically keep their roommates and suitemates?

High Rise Towers

• No. Homesteading their own space does not guarantee students will keep their roommates or suitemates.

• If only one roommate homesteads their space, only that student will reserve a spot for the next academic year.

• Students can homestead their own space or both their own and their roommate's space by forming a roommate group on the housing application.

Non-homesteaded spaces will be available for selection during the General Room Selection Process.

Will Residents automatically keep their roommates and suitemates?

Suite-Style Housing

• No. However, if all roommates and suitemates homestead their spaces, they will stay together for the next academic year.

• Students in suite -style housing cannot homestead their suitemates' spaces. Each suitemate must homestead their own space or both their own and their roommate's space by forming a roommate group on the housing application.

• Any non-homesteaded spaces will be available during the General Room Selection Process.

Non-homesteaded spaces will be available for selection during the General Room Selection Process.

Pull-In Process

• If a student is aware that there will be a vacancy in their room for the upcoming year, they will have the opportunity to “pull - in” another student that they are not currently roommates with.

• In order to “pull -in” a roommate, an available space MUST exist in the room.

• The student being “pulled - in” must have a completed Housing Application AND have accepted the roommate request/invite from the student who is “pulling” them in prior to this process.

• Commuting, Study Abroad and New Students can be pulled - in to open spaces as long as they have:

• Paid the required $300 Housing Deposit and an Enrollment fee if new to Hofstra.

• Have completed a Housing Application and accepted a roommate request.
