At the core of the Hofstra University experience is individualized attention. The campus is large enough to offer world-class resources, but you won’t get lost in the crowd here. In your first year, you’ll be assigned a dedicated advisement dean as well as a student financial services counselor. And when you choose a major, a member of our faculty will mentor you. This personal attention carries into the classroom. With an average undergraduate class size of 21 and studentto-faculty ratio of 14-to-1, you can expect your voice to be heard. You’ll also have access to an active, thriving network of more than 128,000 successful alumni who can help you build the confidence and connections you need to reach new heights.

The Right Program for You School of Engineering and Applied Science Hofstra’s School of Engineering and Applied Science (SEAS) offers dynamic programs designed to educate engineers and computer scientists to make a difference in the world, particularly in solving the modern-day challenges of drinkable water, food safety, renewable energy, biodiversity and climate control. The innovative course work at SEAS emphasizes high-tech research, practical work experience and interdisciplinary study. SEAS is composed of the Department of Engineering (with undergraduate programs in five engineering disciplines: biomedical, civil, electrical, industrial and mechanical) and the Department of Computer Science (with undergraduate programs in computer science, computer engineering, and computer science and mathematics). In addition, two accelerated dual degree programs in computer science allow students to earn a Bachelor of Science and Master of Science or a Bachelor of Arts and Master of Science within five years. Key features include small class sizes (typically 10 to 20 students in junior- and senior-level classes), research collaborations with faculty and peers, high job placement rates after graduation, and highly accessible professors who provide real-world perspective. All full-time faculty hold a PhD and are scholars in their research areas; no classes are taught by teaching assistants or graduate students.
In addition, undergraduates have access to laboratories and classrooms with new technologies, machinery and equipment, including a new multimillion-dollar biomedical engineering lab. Computer science students can pursue individualized independent study courses; programs in entrepreneurship are also available for those interested in starting their own business. Engineering students in their junior year can apply for a summer or semester-long “co-op” work experience, giving them hands-on opportunities with local industries that can lead to highly desirable jobs upon graduation. SEAS undergraduate students can also rely on high quality, comprehensive career services from Hofstra University’s Career Center. Career counselors help students build strong resumes and secure valuable internships as well as jobs after graduation. Career Center services and resources include oneon-one appointments with career counselors, access to thousands of job and internship postings, career fairs, on-campus recruitment programs, career-related webshops, mock interviews, resume and cover letter writing, and online management of recommendation letters.
