Rahsmia Zatar, executive director of STRONG Youth and Hofstra alumna, presents the numerous challenges related to youth and gang violence prevention and intervention. Anjela Jenkins, attorney for the Young Center for Immigrant Children’s Rights, presents an overview of the Office of Refugee Resettlement system and the role of the child advocate. Convened by Hofstra student Ían Guzmán.

This event, open to the entire Hofstra community, will feature discussions between local high school students, their teachers, and Hofstra students doing teacher training. Convened by Professor Alan Singer.
This workshop, conducted by the Young Center for Immigrant Children’s Rights, is aimed at those interested in volunteer work, internships or professional careers in immigration. It features group exercises and asks who the unaccompanied children arriving in Nassau County are and why have they arrived here. It also examines the current immigration system, conditions of immigrant children in custody, the Refugee Resettlement program, and application requirements. Convened by Professor Valeria Luiselli.
