"The purpose of the study is to evaluate the effects of aging on mental state language (i.e.,theory of mind) and salience via assessment of narrative skills. The research question is “how do narrative skills reflect changes in performance of theory of mind and saliency across the lifespan?”Qualification screenings will be administered to ensure cognitive health, hearing and vision within normal limits. Then, we will administer either the 1972 picture (black and white) or the colored 2018 picture while recording the participant. Last, upon review of the recording, there will be an analysis of the discourse from each participant. A total of 90 healthy adults between the ages of 20-85 years will participate. They will be monolingual English speakers with a minimum of 12 years education, and no neurological impairments. They must pass a remote hearing and vision screening and cognitive screening remotely.
