Hofstra University Student Government Association Two Thousand and Eighteen S.A.2018.82.004 SGA Storage Space Regulations for Non-SGA Recognized Clubs

A. OFFICE SPACE PROCEDURES: 6. Allocation of storage space to non-SGA recognized clubs: Student Government Association (SGA) may allocate storage space to non-SGA recognized clubs. However, the following restrictions apply: a. Clubs that request SGA storage space shall be recognized by the Office of Student Leadership and Engagement (OSLE). b. The Club Relations Committee may designate an area within the SGA storage space (i.e.

Student Center 263A) that is to be allocated to non-SGA recognized clubs. c. SGA-recognized clubs have priority over non-SGA recognized clubs in the allocation of storage space. i.

If an SGA-recognized club needs storage space, the SGA-recognized section is full, and space is available in the non-SGA recognized section, then the belongings of the SGA-recognized club looking for space shall be placed in the non-SGA recognized section. ii. If an SGA-recognized club needs storage space, the SGA-recognized section is full, and space is not available in the non-SGA recognized section, then no clubs are to be evicted from the space. The applying SGA-recognized club will not be granted space. d. If a non-SGA recognized club needs storage space, the non-SGA recognized space is full, and there is space in the SGA-recognized section, then the non-SGA recognized club may not be granted space in the SGA-recognized section. e. If a non-SGA recognized club is allocated space and does not move into the space within two (2) weeks of the day of allocation, then the club may lose the right to the space and may not be allowed to request storage space for one (1) calendar year, or three hundred and sixty-five (365) days following the two (2) week period. f. Non-SGA recognized clubs shall agree to abide by all policies and regulations that apply to SGA-recognized clubs while using the SGA storage space. Failure to comply with the aforementioned policies and regulations set forth by the Club Relations Committee may result in a punishment deemed appropriate by the Club Relations Committee in accordance with SGA policy series.

3. DEBATES: a. Any questions relating to the debates shall be directed to the Elections Commission and answered outside of the Student Government Association office. b. The Elections Commission shall organize three (3) debates at least one (1) debate if there is a contesting ticket. c. The first shall be a presidential debate, the second shall be a vice presidential debate, and the third shall be a ticket debate. A ticket debate shall be held prior to voting dates.

The Elections Commission may hold two (2) additional debates prior to voting: a presidential debate and a vice presidential debate. d. Only a member of the Elections Commission shall be eligible to act as the moderator for the debate(s). e. The Elections Commission may advertise the debates one (1) week in advance of the debate(s).

This has been a busy week for the Club Relations committee.

ii. On April 24th, Club Relations is hosting Club Fusion Fest from 6:30 PM – 8:30 PM in Multipurpose Room West.

1. This event will be a competition between clubs. There will be an award supporting the future collaboration of the club team that wins the competition.

2. This event is only open to SGA-recognized clubs. iii. Club Relations drafted storage space legislation to open office space allocations to non-SGA recognized clubs. iv. Club relations drafted legislation drafting a contract between SGA and clubs that receive office spaces.

1. This will address any potential issues that come up with allocating office spaces. v. All work orders for office spaces have been addressed. vi. The yearbook initiative is still underway. Yesterday was the Provost Scholar Reception. It was a huge success.

ii. Initiative updates 1. Senator Osner looked up different universities that have programs that distribute free menstrual products.

2. Senator Schmidt stated that the library display is up and a permanent display will be going up soon. The display will have all the positivity notes from tabling. a.

Will show the Hunting Ground with CFC.

Tomorrow is Take Back the Night. Doors open at 5:30 PM in the Student Center Theater. There will be safe rooms with counselors. CFC is looking for two or more volunteers.

3. Senator Spann conducted research and is looking for senators to help improve campus safety.

She is looking to write legislation presenting a call to action to improve campus safety.

She would like to organize a self-defense class.

4. Senator Schmidt presented updates on the staff appreciation initiative. a.

There will be an employee spotlight in the Chronicle or on HofCast. This is an opportunity to show individual employees that you appreciate them.

There will also be a card making tabling event. They will be displayed at different locations on campus.

5. Senator Harley is pursuing the Netherlands exercise equipment initiative.

She met with Beth McGuire from Residence Life who suggested she reach out to Pat in the Fitness center. a.

A date is to be determined for the Arbor Day initiative.

6. Chairperson Denton is meeting with Dr. Perotti from the Political Science department to narrow down the curriculum for her Public Policy initiative.

7. Senator Ramirez should have an update next week for the Smoking Ban initiative.

8. If you are interested in running for SAC, please let Senator Ramirez know. a.

The schedule is made based on the chairperson of the committee and the new senators.

Alexa emailed Pat Montagano to see if the Fitness Center has received samples for menstrual products recently 1. Pat does and Alexa will be following up shortly iii.

Alexa did research on what other universities are doing (i.e., Brown, UCLA, NYU) iv.

Alexa is planning to facilitate a stressbuster event 1. Will be reaching out to clubs (i.e., QTOPCC, CFC, CWC, TGIF, The Pride Network) to see if they would like to collaborate 2. De -stigmatize menstruation and talk about ways to alleviate stress when menstruating Arbor Day i.

Kathryn in contact with Fred Soviero from the Plant department ii.

Kathryn is in contact with Pat Montagano from the Fitness Center and will be meeting with her this week to discuss possible options Public Safety i.

Gabby is in contact with Karen O'Callaghan. Karen forwarded Gabby’s email about training sessions to Erika Schaub (Emergency Management Officer)

1. Erika responded and mentioned that Public Safety offers training to students when requested 2. Upcoming training for employees is on April 25th ii.

Timmy has a connection with the Public Safety at Stony Brook and is forwarding me their contact information. We had a discussion about how safe their campus is and I'm planning to possibly visit if the Psafe allows it. iii.

Gabby is planning to continue working on legislation with task force formed D. University Senate Student Affairs Committee updates a. Passed legislation to change the dates for Town Hall and What’s Happening at Hofstra, and will be sent to the Executive Committee shortly b. Elections will take place after SGA’s elections
