VI. SPIRIT COMMITTEE A. FALL FESTIVAL DUTIES: The Spirit Committee ​may​ shall ​ ​ participate as a co-sponsor or member of the Pride Expo.

B. HOFSTRA CELEBRATES THE HOLIDAYS: The Spirit Committee shall be responsible for promoting Student Government Association involvement in Hofstra Celebrates the Holidays. All Student Government Association members shall contribute in the activities of Hofstra Celebrates the Holidays.

C. PRIDE UNLEASHED WEEK: The Spirit Committee shall be responsible for hosting one (1) event on behalf of the Student Government Association in conjunction with Hofstra’s Athletic Department during the fall semester in ​ conjunction with​ for ​ ​ Pride Unleashed Week.

D. COLONIAL ATHLETIC ASSOCIATION ​TOURNAMENT:​ The Spirit Committee shall plan the involvement and/or ​ ​ transportation of the student body to the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) Tournament. The Student Government Association shall not allocate more than $4,000 in transportation costs pertaining to the CAA Tournament.

E. COMMITTEE DISCRETIONARY EVENT: In abidance with the Constitution, the Spirit Committee shall sponsor three (3) events per semester to encourage student engagement on campus.

E. STRESSBUSTERS: The Spirit Committee shall be responsible for assisting and co-sponsoring at least two (2) events for Stressbusters alongside the Office of Student Advocacy and Prevention Awareness (OSAPA) each semester.

F. SERVICE COORDINATOR: The Spirit Chair may appoint a Service Chair whose duties shall be as follows.

A. Collaborate with the Vice ​ President​ Spirit Chair, ​Vice President,​ and Secretary to coordinate service-based events with other organizations on campus.

From page 21 of the Student Government Association Policy Series VII. STUDENT SERVICES COMMITTEE A. PROVOST SCHOLAR RECEPTION: The Student Services Committee shall be responsible for assisting and cosponsoring the reception for the Provost Scholars each semester.

B. SGA AT THE CORNER: The Student Services CommitteeClub shall plan and spearhead SGA at the Corner. SGA at the Corner will be conducted every Fall​ ​semester at a date determined by the Student Service Committee preceding ratification by the Cabinet.​ CA. ​ PROGRAMMING: 1. STUDENT APPRECIATION WEEK: The Student Services Committee shall plan and direct Student Appreciation Week ​every fall semester​ ​at a date determined by the committee preceding ratification by the Cabinet.​ Student Appreciation Week shall include five (5) days of programming, surveying, and hosting an internal town hall event all aimed to increase communication between the Student Government Association and the student body.

2. SPRING PROGRAMMING: The Student Services Committee shall plan and direct a week during the Spring semester at a date determined by the committee preceding ratification by the Cabinet. This shall include five (5) days of programming, surveying, and hosting an internal town hall event all aimed to increase communication between the Student Government Association and the student body.

DB. ​ ​ ACADEMIC AFFAIRS SUBCOMMITTEE: 1. The Student Services Chairperson may appoint a minimum of ​three (3)​ senators or associates to serve on the Academic Affairs subcommittee.

2. The Academic Affairs subcommittee is responsible for coordinating the Spring and Fall Provost Scholar Receptions EB. ​ ​ “It’s On Us” AMBASSADOR 1. The Student Services Chair may appoint an “It’s On Us” Ambassador, whose duties shall be as follows.

A. Attend “It’s On Us” committee meetings and other pertinent events at the discretion of the Student Services Chair to discuss prevention, awareness and education regarding Title IX related policies and initiatives.

B. Collaborate with politically/socially active clubs, student organizations, non-profits and other relevant organizations and departments to facilitate programming and promote awareness of issues regarding Title IX policies and resources on campus.

C. Work constructively with the Title IX Officers and advisors in the Office of Student Leadership and Engagement to promote a healthy environment in which all members of the Student Government Association are aware of policies and all available resources.

SGA Club Recognition Hearing i. Hofstra Health and Wellness Club 1. Membership is not an issue. They have at least 15 members come to every event. They have ideas for the future. We should ask about their e-board and how turnover will look like and why they want SGA recognition.

2. Senator Doan asks about co-presidencies a. Chairperson Ramirez statesChairperson Ramirez states that this club may vote to install a co-presidency if they wish, but it is not required. Co-presidencies are not in violation of SGA policies.

3. The Club Presents a. Co-Presidents state that they promote the health and wellbeing of the Hofstra community. They want to promote a sense of community with the pre-med community. They would like to achieve this through the club. They want to bring in speakers to Hofstra to educate the Hofstra Community and to bring new opportunities. They did not stand alone before and would like to now. They have 25 plus members that come to meetings. They have activities and one of them was hand sanitizer giveaways during tabling. They would also like to raise money for organizations around long island. They have many ideas lined up for this semester including a walk-a-ton, a speaker's panel, and a skin cancer event. They also want a sense of autonomy. They state that they are trying to navigate through what they can and cannot do without SGA recognition. They think that funding would help with their events and go towards fundraising on their own. They would also like to collaborate with other SGA recognized clubs. They would also have a mix of advisors. b. Questions

i. Comptroller Kutsch asks if they have members for the upcoming semesters 1. They state that their Vice President will be President next semester. And they have added a few new roles onto their e-board. There will also be trainings given from older members to newer members to help transitioning ii. Senator Battipaglia asks about training interests 1. They state yes. They asks if anyone would be interested and about 5 to 7 people raised their hand. People want to be more involved iii. Senator Doan asks about the class standing of e-board 1. They state that there are seniors, juniors, and a sophomore. They would like to do the transition due to it c. Debate i. Senator Osner for 1. This club was one of the most well prepared club. They have many returning members. It is great that they are doing a training. ii. Senator Ortiz for 1. They state their purpose is for pre-med students at hofstra to come together iii. Senator Fletcher against 1. There are a couple of other clubs that are catered towards the medical track. There could be overlap between these clubs iv. Senator Doan for 1. No new points v. Comptroller Kutsch for 1. There is more opportunity to become a leader by having this club recognized vi. Vote 1. By a vote of 36-0-2, that motion passes B. Nominations for the Elections Commission i. Previous Members of the Elections Commission present 1. Senator Harley, Senator Algarin, and Senator Greenberg speak about their experience. They state that this commission is an unbiased body.

They solve any issues and concerns individuals may come up in the election process. They worked closely with our advisor Denise Boneta. It is a fun experience. They state that usually it is graduating class members. If you are on the commission, you cannot support anyone’s ticket.

President Normandin gives Senate a small activity to do ii. Email from Kathleen Lieblich from OSAPA with regards to a Hofstra’s YouOK? Campaign. It is a mental health campaign and the goal is to have positive and open conversations about mental health. They requests 1 to 2 students to be involved in this campaign. This won’t be an official committee but more of a informal effort towards this campaign.

1. Senators state that they know individuals on campus who have been dealing with mental health issues and that this campaign can make a difference. These characters help with brightening conversations about mental health that can be a bit difficult. This would be a good idea to spread awareness about these issues and it will help become less of a stigma. This could also be worrying too if these characters have a negative impact on those with mental health issues. Another concern is that this might not be taken seriously by some students on campus.

2. Chairperson Labrie moves for traditional debate around this campaign a. Motion seconded b. Motion objected c. Motion to have debate on this topic i. Vote 1. By a vote of 18-20-0, that motion does not pass

3. Senator Tomy moves to have a vote as to whether SGA should support this campaign a. Vote i. By a vote of 25-11-2, that motion passes iii. Spring Semester there will be a open Cabinet meeting in the Greenhouse on Wednesday, March 27th at 6:30pm. All members are welcome to come. iv. Cabinet will potentially be open to an individual or two each week who would like to come speak to Cabinet about a project. This will be a trial for next week and we will see from there if this will be continued. Email her by Monday at 5:00pm.

Dean of Students Conference Room on Wednesday at 6:30pm. v. Community Governance Summit will be occurring tomorrow. There are workshops that will be happening. The theme is how can we be more effective student leaders that oversee other student leaders. vi. Updates from this week 1. Met with the new V.P. of IT, Steve Fabiani. He will be coming to Senate this semester. They spoke about Hofstra’s website with him and keeping it more up to date. They also spoke about some other systems that we could adopt at Hofstra. Also, making an online reporting system. They also talked about other technological ways of getting into residence halls other than standard keys. But this is a longer term initiative and will be seen. They also spoke about laptop accessibility for students. They also spoke about other systems different from GetInvolvedHU for data collection and surveying.

2. Prepping for the Summit 3. Caribbean Students Association a. They are looking to bring a motivational speaker on campus. IEI, CSA, and the cultural center is looking to co-sponsor it and they would like us to co-sponsor.

B. Vice President— D. Denton i. Senate Operations 1. The new start time is 6:30pm and the cut-off time is going to be 11:30pm. ii. President’s Task Force 1. It is still ongoing from last semester. There will be open meetings soon and individuals will be able to come in and give their opinions on issues on campus. February 15th and February 27th.

C. Comptroller—M. Kutsch 1. Rollback has been done last week.

2. Everyone interested in the committee. He’d like to get started next week.

Chairperson Grief states that the committee saw one greek organization. The meeting went well. And The policy series was discussed and they plan on completely rewriting it.

Audits will be done this semester. Application would be due March 27th for Club Office Space allocations. April will be the transfer of offices. Chairperson Crofts reached out to move the yearbooks soon. ii. Senator Farooqui moves to pass the Club Relations minutes 1. Motion seconded 2. Motion passes Public Relations— A. Labrie i. Chairperson Labrie states that the committee went over a new social media plan.

The boards will be updated. ii. Senator Harley moves to pass the Public Relations minutes 1. Motion seconded 2. Motion passes Rules— C. Ramirez i. Chairperson Ramirez states that introductions were done, a club was seen, and elections were done. Senator Farooqui is the archivist and Senator Fletcher is the new Ethics and Conduct Chair. All emails regarding absences and latenesses should go to Senator Fletcher at the ​sga_ethics@pride.hofstra.edu email. ii. This semester the committee will be working on the policy series in collaboration with each respective committee. In order to bring legislation to the rules committee, a co-signer is needed. So, Senate will need to help with this undertaking. There will be a master document which will be edited throughout this process. Two elections need to be staffed. iii. Senator Candelaria moves to pass the Rules minutes 1. Motion seconded 2. Motion passes Spirit—C. Tomasso i. Chairperson Tomasso states that introductions were done. The projects for this semester are Valentine’s Day, Basketball Season, Spirit Week, and Pride Den Plaque. Also talked about stressbusters. The spirit committee will be working on the basketball games in terms of tabling. She needs individuals who are interested who will be interested in tabling for letting individuals on campus know about the 700 student tickets which are available. This is just for promoting and will not be an all day thing. ii. Senator Ortiz moves to pass the Spirit minutes 1. Motion seconded 2. Motion passes Student Services—I. Schmidt i. Chairperson Schmidt states that the meeting was about spring programming.

SGA at the Corner will be renamed into Spring into Action Week and will be a week long now. The senators on the committee will be program each day of the week. It will be March 11th to March 15th. There will be surveys during this week.

The policy series will be updated. There will also be initiatives that the committee will be promoting and leading. One example is the pride pantry initiative. Special Reports A. Vice President Denton states that this part of the agenda will be when senators can talk about updates within their roles outside of SGA that contribute to the Hofstra Community. i. Dean of Students Diversity Advisory Board 1. Senator Farooqui and Senator Osner state that they will be giving updates after the first meeting this semester. Last semester this board spoke about issues on campus. One issue that was brought up was about pronouns. If anyone is interested in sitting on the board, please let them know. ii. Social Justice Ad Hoc Committee 1. Senator Farooqui and Chairperson Ramirez present. They state that this committee’s goal would be to educate SGA on topics regarding issues on campus and take action to address those issues. There will be a chairperson overseeing this ad-hoc committee with three sub-sections, each focused on a different topic with a point person leading the efforts.

One standing issue is the Jefferson’s Gotta Go Campaign since this issue was brought to Senate last semester. And the other two issues will be chosen within Senate. There is a timeline in which topics will be picked and there will be a crash course or presentation on what the issue chosen is. Then, SGA would discuss what can be done to address that issue. There will be updates every week on one of the issues. This will help with SGA actually tackling issues that students are having on campus. After this conversation, one possible action that may be taken is drafting a resolution to show the Hofstra community what SGA’s stance is. a. Senator Spann asks how many people would be on this committee i. They state that there shouldn’t be a limit on it in case there are many individuals interested on a topic. This will not work unless senators are motivated to take on some issues. b. Chairperson Schmidt asks if people should come into Senate with an idea i. They state that an individual would just have to bring an issue to Senate next week, why they think it is important, or why it should be addressed 2. They also state that other initiatives will be proposed by the Senate and it could be more than just three if people are willing to do the work. The committee won’t see issues regarding SHACC and Title-IX since these have already been addressed with individual initiatives. Also, it won’t see any issues regarding internal SGA topics. a. Senator Tomy asks why there should be a committee if senators can do initiates on their own i. They state that this would lead to more accountability because the committee would have to present to Senate. Also if there is an ad-hoc committee administrators might be held more accountable iii. Service Coordinator 1. Senator Dimes states that she is looking into opportunities for community service this semester. The Ronald McDonald House, Relay, The Mary Brennan Inn, and the Bird Sanctuary are some of the services she is looking into for this semester. It is very important also for there to be education on why individuals should volunteer. Someone from the

Ronald McDonald House might be coming to Senate to speak about volunteering. If anyone has any ideas regarding this, please let her know.

She is also looking into doing more volunteer work this semester.

Perhaps this will happen once a month. April 5th from 3:30pm to 6:00pm.

Call to Order at 6:36pm New Business A. Paperwork Refresh with Denise Boneta 1. All clubs on campus have to be Hofstra recognized and can be SGA recognized if they would like.

2. GetInvolvedHU is very important in terms of getting information from various clubs. a)

SGA’s GetInvolved profile needs to be updated.

3. SGA should recognize that fundraising on campus is difficult sometimes for clubs.

4. For all paperwork, all clubs need to fill out a cover sheet. Paperwork needs to be filled and submitted ahead of time.

5. SGA needs to cancel event space reservations and atrium tabling reservations ahead of time if necessary.

B. It’s On Us Updates: Tara Stark 1.

Senator Stark states that next week is Love, Sex and Friendship Week. a) There will be several days of tabling focused on relationships with friends. Partners, and ourselves.

2. In March , as part of Safe Spring Break, speaker Tim Mousseau will be giving several talks.

Possibility of SGA requirement to attend one.

3. Tabling is for Safe Spring Break, they will have resources and information available, especially regarding safe places to go in other countries if a situation arises.

4. Senators Stark and Firooz are working on the library display that will be up for the month of April.

SGA will be tabling April 1st-5th to collect “Letters of Support to Survivors” that will be added to the display.

5. An “It’s On ALL of Us” panel is being planned for Sexual Assault Awareness month. The panel will focus on how men can join the conversation and work to end rape culture. a)

Chairperson Ramirez makes a recommendation for having individuals that identify as women on this panel along with men. This could help bring up more inclusive topics.

b) Chairperson Schmidt states that the participants of the panel will not be speaking to what they assume women experience, they will only be speaking to their experiences with ideas of masculinity and role as allies. We are finalizing the google form that will be sent

out, and after participants will be selected there will be plenty of preparation to ensure an appropriate and careful conversation.

6. “Yards for Yeardly” is a walk-a-thon to bring awareness to domestic violence and celebrate the life of a college student that was victimized. It is confirmed for April 26th 10-4, could be a service hour for SGA members available.

7. The Brooklyn Center for Anti-Violence will be doing a self-defense workshop at Hofstra. We are collaborating with Panhellenic Council to bring a self-defense workshop to campus that encompasses physical and social tools of self-defense. Date not set but will be during the third week of April, with potentially several sessions offered.

8. Tabling in lieu of an office hour a) SGA tabling for It’s On Us that would be mandatory is for the first week of April.

Assisting It’s On Us programs through tabling is voluntary to replace an office hour.

(1) March 6th - Safe Spring Break C. Senate Logistics 1. Sign up for Compass Focus Groups a)

This will be discussed in more specifics at Senate.

2. Community Governance Summit Share Out a) Vice President Denton states that there will be time for SGA members to talk about their experience from the Summit at Senate.

3. Upcoming Senate Attendees a) Vice President Denton states that representatives from Alumni Affairs, Compass Dining, Information and Technology, Facilities and Operations, and Residence Life are confirmed to visit Senate in the coming weeks b) Jefferson’s Gotta Go Campaign members will be coming on February 14th III.

Matters at Hand by committee A. Spirit Committee 1. Chairperson Tomasso states that tabling for Basketball is happening this week and Spirit is working on Valentine Day specifics.

B. Club Relations Committee 1.

Chairperson Crofts states that all of the yearbooks have been removed from the office. a) The first forty minutes of the meeting was spent moving all the boxes from one side of the office to another.

2. He also states that Club Audits will be happening this semester. The deadline for audits would be during the same time period as office allocations.

3. The committee is thinking, as an initiative, of making an excel sheet with information on each club so that there is a database to cross-check with the information on GetInvolvedHU. a) Comptroller Kutsch suggests that the committee members could talk with various advisors and get information from them on the clubs they oversee.

3. Rules Committee has started going through the policy series this semester.

D. Appropriations Committee 1. Chairperson Grief states that four clubs were seen this week.

2. He wants the committee to take a better look at the policy series. a)

The committee discussed and edited the policy series at this week’s meeting.

3. He states that there are more major changes that need to be discussed. For example, the terms discriminatory and exclusive can become more specific. a)

He states that this would need to be changed in the constitution before the policy series.

4. He also states that he wants any concerns for the committee to be shared as soon as possible.

5. He also states that the committee wants to add in exceptions regarding SGA. E. Public Relations Committee 1. Chairperson Crofts gives a joint update regarding Public Relations. He states that there would be a club of the week but bi-weekly. The Club Relations Committee will be reaching out to advisors and discussing who the club would be. That will be sent over to the Public Relations committee and the posts will be posted on Wednesdays. Also, there could be sign-ups for events that clubs put on around campus. a) Chairperson Ramirez states that going to at least one club event on campus a semester should be a required duty to support constituents that vote us into office.

F. Student Services Committee

1. Chairperson Schmidt states that the committee members are planning their respective days for Spring Into Action Week. a)

This planning will be done by next week and then the committee will focus on initiatives.

2. Working with Senator Firooz and Senator Stark on bigger It’s On Us projects. Committee members will be tabling with It’s On Us week.

3. Working on planning a community share event with the Pride Pantry.

4. Idea for compiling guide for students on resources available on campus. Comptroller Kutsch is also interested and would like to work with Student Services.

IV.

President and Vice President: Week 13 Updates A. RHA Meeting 1. President Normandin and Vice President Denton went to a RHA meeting on Monday and Colleen Todd, an RHA representative is coming to Senate tomorrow. a) Chairperson Grief states that if this works out then we should also reach out to the Commuter Students Association.

B.

Caribbean Student Association/ Intercultural Engagement and Inclusion Speaker Co-sponsorship 1.

President Normandin states that SGA will be giving $750 to bring in the speaker.

C. A’cappella Organization Updates 1. President Normandin states that she had a meeting with them today. They want to make a council that oversees all of the A’cappella groups on campus. Since the council would consist of members that have been on groups that are SGA-recognized, this council could become SGA-recognized this semester. a)
