Individual Tutor of the Year

This award recognizes a tutor’s dedication to helping their peers achieve academic success. The Individual Tutor of the Year demonstrates patience and care with all students. They work hard to instill in their students a true appreciation for their subject and a passion for learning.

This award recognizes a tutor’s dedication to helping their peers achieve academic success. THE CAREER CENTER AWARDS

Hofstra Undergraduate Intern of the Year

This award recognizes an outstanding student for significant contributions made during an internship related to their career path. Applicants must be current undergraduate students at Hofstra and may be nominated by a faculty member, employer, or themselves for internships completed in the spring, summer, or fall 2019 terms. The recipient has the ability to strongly connect their role at the internship to their career aspirations and demonstrate the impact of their work on the mission of their organization.

This award is presented to a graduate student in an hourly, assistantship, or intern position at Hofstra who has gone above and beyond the basics of their role to make significant contributions to their department while advancing in their own career goals. Applicants must be current graduate students at Hofstra and may be nominated by their administrative supervisor for positions held during the 2019-2020 academic year. The recipient has the ability to strongly connect their role to their career aspirations and demonstrate the impact of their work on the mission of their department and Hofstra University.

Good Neighbor Award

This award is presented to either an individual or group of students who reside off campus and develop relationships with their neighbors. They strive to embody the PRIDE Values in the community, educating themselves and other students who live off campus by demonstrating exemplary leadership, organization, and hospitality.

Nominee: Alpha Theta Beta Outstanding Commuter of the Year

This award recognizes a junior or senior commuting student leader. The student demonstrates mastery in multitasking in a variety of activities, both inside and outside the Hofstra community.

This award recognizes the access mentor who encourages and promotes Hofstra’s longstanding commitment to equality and access. The mentor offers disability-related support, education, and resources to new Hofstra students.

This award acknowledges a commuter mentor who has gone above and beyond their duty to ensure that new commuting students are comfortable at school and learn to call Hofstra home.

This award recognizes a diversity peer mentor who embodies the PRIDE Values, as well as supports and stands in solidarity with those who are marginalized or underrepresented as they transition into the Hofstra community.

This award acknowledges a global mentor who serves as an intercultural liaison while adding significant value to the international student experience.

PRISM Mentor of the Year

This award recognizes a PRISM mentor who has gone above and beyond to serve as a role model, advocate, and supporter for LGBTQ+ students at Hofstra.

This award acknowledges a transfer mentor who offers peer guidance and social support to transfer students as they transition to life at Hofstra.

This award recognizes an organization that is committed to community involvement and provides consistent contributions through sponsored or co-sponsored events/activities. CAMPUS RECREATION AWARDS

Most Improved Club Sport of the Year

This award is given to a club that demonstrated marked improvement in their operations, fundraising, membership, and competitive achievements.

This award honors a group of intramural participants who have demonstrated excellent sportsmanship while setting a positive example for their team and all participants during intramural competition.

This award recognizes a student leader who has displayed their Hofstra Pride by excelling in academic pursuits, motivating Spirit Support members, and contributing their time and energy at athletic and special events both on and off campus.

FRATERNITY AND SORORITY LIFE AWARDS

Anita Ellis Endowed Scholarship

This scholarship award is given to a member of the fraternity and sorority community who is actively involved in their chapter and the community as a whole at Hofstra.

Nominees: Annemarie Bastone ‘21, Gianna Mitchell ‘21 Fraternity and Sorority Spirit Award

This award is given to a chapter who exemplifies the concept of positive interfraternal relationships among the Hofstra fraternity and sorority community while succeeding in the areas of scholarship, leadership, service, and member development. The chapter supports other organizations in their endeavors and recognizes those who are succeeding. This organization is one that is always there to lend a helping hand or supportive stance when other chapters are in need.

Nominees: Delta Phi Epsilon, Phi Alpha Delta Fraternity and Sorority Life Emerging Leader

This award is given to a Greek Life member who was initiated in the previous academic year and whose participation and contribution to fraternity and sorority life profoundly influenced their chapter and the Hofstra community at large. The recipient’s innovative spirit and dedication helped make significant and lasting improvements to the chapter and/or the community.

This award recognizes two Greek Life leaders for their outstanding and continued service to the Greek community; strong academic records; significant campus and community participation; strong personal character; and confidence and leadership as a positive role model. The recipients should be widely known and highly regarded in the Greek community for their lasting contributions.

INTERCULTURAL ENGAGEMENT AND INCLUSION AWARDS

Commitment to the Dream Award

The Commitment to the Dream Award recognizes an individual who has displayed a commitment to inclusion at Hofstra University. The award recipient has contributed to the growth of the institution and has repeatedly broken down barriers in order to establish engagement with their peers around societal issues.

Nominee: Valerie Pierre ‘20 Faith-Based Organization of the Year

This award is given to an organization that adds to the faith-based landscape at Hofstra by providing resources for the community as a whole and advocating for strong involvement in a faith-centered life.

Nominees: Fellowship of Christian Athletes, Hofstra Hillel, Hofstra Newman Club Intercultural Organization of the Year

This award recognizes an organization that has demonstrated the characteristics of an empowered student organization and inclusivity of all cultural backgrounds, and has created a safe space for peers. The organization must have demonstrated various forms of social justice advocacy as well as offered programming that enriches other students educationally and socially throughout the year.

Nominee: Hofstra Organization for Latinx Americans Politically/Socially Active Organization of the Year

This award recognizes an organization that best exemplifies a spirit of social or political activism and social change through programmatic and community-building efforts for both Hofstra and the greater Long Island community.

Nominee: GiveKindnessHU Hofstra Outstanding Pride Experience (HOPE) Award

This award recognizes one or more programs that have challenged students to think critically about issues of race, gender, sexual orientation, socioeconomic status, and identity. The program or programs should have provided a space to positively engage in dialogue and action centered on these topics, as well as educated and celebrated the community at large, while highlighting the diverse student experience at Hofstra University

Nominee: South Asian Students Alliance (The Multicultural Mixer) Rising Star Award

This award recipient is a student who has risen to the occasion and become involved with Intercultural Engagement and Inclusion’s mission on campus. The student has demonstrated exceptional leadership skills, shown superb teamwork and selflessness, and volunteered their time to better themselves and the Hofstra community.

Nominees: Arsalan Jamal ‘22, Leah Lane ‘20 Outstanding Ally of the Year

This award recognizes a faculty or staff member who has risen above the call of duty, volunteering their time inside and/or outside of the classroom to mentor, educate, and advocate for social justice and students at Hofstra University.

The recipient has demonstrated a commitment to advancing intercultural engagement and inclusion and has been vital in promoting social justice within the Hofstra community.

STUDENT GOVERNMENT ASSOCIATION AWARDS

Most Accomplished SGA-Recognized Club

This award acknowledges an SGA-recognized club or organization for exceeding the expectations to which clubs and organizations are held. This award characterizes an organization that has increased campus engagement, established a positive presence and reputation, followed Hofstra policies, and enhanced the experience of Hofstra’s student population.

Bovenaan Award

This award was established in spring 1953 by the Student Faculty Affairs Committee. The award honors students whose co-curricular activities are characterized by variety and quality, and does not make a distinction within the areas of athletic, social, fraternal, religious, dramatic, musical, or political involvement, except to see that its recipients are active in more than one of these areas.

This award recognizes a student who has had a positive impact on the campus community through direct involvement, attitude, diligence, leadership, and influence. The award is given to a student whose commitment has resulted in an organization or activity attaining a new level of achievement not possible without their participation.

This award is given to an organization that has demonstrated remarkable spirit and has made a positive difference at Hofstra University throughout the past academic year. The organization and its members demonstrate collaboration, creativity, and diversity in programs, as well as the ability to work as a team and display leadership.

Advisor of the Year

The recipient of this award must meet all the criteria set forth for faculty and staff. This professional consistently goes above and beyond in their advising of individual students and student clubs/organizations; is knowledgeable about Hofstra University’s policies, rules, and regulations; and demonstrates professionalism, character, and exceptional care toward students in the Hofstra community.

This award is given to two students of senior standing, as defined by the Hofstra University Undergraduate Bulletin.

Recipients demonstrate the ability to lead others and explore opportunities to expand horizons, and are involved in campus organizations and campus-wide initiatives that serve Hofstra University and the greater community. This is one of the most prestigious awards that a member of the senior class can receive at Hofstra University, as it commemorates Dr. Holly J. Seirup’s tireless dedication to and past efforts in enhancing campus life at Hofstra University.
