FACULTY The Department of Biology includes 17 full-time faculty members who have doctoral degrees. In addition to their work in the classroom, all are active researchers and frequent authors for scholarly journals. Faculty research interests include:

THE HUHC BIOLOGY SCHEDULE The chart below illustrates how HUHC’s courses are integrated into the BS in Biology curriculum. The Honors College 12-credit sequence (Culture and Expression) fulfills University-wide social sciences and humanities requirements during the first year. Mathematics and physical science courses in biology, chemistry, and physics, and introductory and advanced biology courses in a declared concentration, constitute most of the next two years of coursework. Concentrations include Cell and Molecular Biology; Ecology and Evolution; Marine Biology; Pre-Medical, Pre-Dental and Pre-Veterinary Studies; and Secondary Education. Many students pursue undergraduate research in their junior and senior years.

FACILITIES Gittleson Hall, home of the Biology Department, recently underwent a $4 million renovation that includes these additions and upgrades: • A n imaging center with light and electron microscopes, high-resolution macro-imager, 3D motion analysis systems, professional portable GPS units fully compatible with GIS, and 3D printer • An advanced molecular techniques center, including a robotic liquid handler, automated plate reader, qPCR, and eukaryotic cell culture capabilities • A collaborative learning center for small group activity via wireless sharing of data • A student study center and lounge • Animal care facilities • Two automated greenhouses
